The desolate beauty of inland Sal is in stark contrast to the white sands of its coast. On this off-road safari, you'll explore Murdeira Bay, the Buracona lagoon, the ocean-like sands of Terra Boa and Pedra de Lume. Beyond the most popular sights, you'll also get a glimpse of local life in Palmeira and Espargos. Rodrigo, one of our expert local guides, says, "I've lived on Sal all my life, and I'm still fascinated by my island's colourful street art. It's a vivid reflection of our culture and our daily lives."Starting with a pit stop at Murdeira Bay, you'll trundle off in a closed 4x4 – we're the only ones using covered off-roaders – to the fishing village of Palmeira on the west coast. Its palm tree-lined streets are dotted with mural-painted cafés and tiny shops. Rodrigo says, "Palmeira's kaleidoscopic – and cluttered – souvenir shops are an attraction in themselves." Then it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for how it shimmers when hit by sunlight.Next, you'll witness the ocean-like sands and mirage of Terra Boa. An optical phenomenon, in which hot rays of light reflect distant objects and the sky, creates the illusion of a desert lake. Back on the road, there's a pit stop at a viewpoint, where you can enjoy an elevated panorama of Espargos, the island's capital. Wind down with a natural spa treatment in the Dead Sea-like lagoon of Pedra de Lume. Floating in one of the world's saltiest waters and inside an extinct volcano crater is a buoyant way to end the tour. What is the itinerary for this experience? This experience is available as a morning or afternoon tour, so the itinerary timings change depending on which one you pick. Morning option:- 8:00am – pick-up from your hotel- 8:15am – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 8:30am to 8:45am – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 9:15am to 9:30pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 10:10am to 10:20am – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 10:20am to 10:35am – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 10:35am to 11:15am – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 11:20am to 12:00pm – transfer back to your hotel----------Afternoon option:- 1:30pm – pick up from your hotel- 1:45pm – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 2:00pm to 2:15pm – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 2:45pm to 3:00pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 3:40pm to 3:50pm – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 3:50pm to 4:05pm – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 4:05pm to 4:45pm – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 4:45pm to 5:30pm – transfer back to your hotel

Stef & George were both very helpful, helping us in and out the truck being elderly. Very nice young men. Stef was brilliant with his knowledge which was very enjoyable. He knew a lot as lived on the island since he moved as a young boy. We even got to see a whale jumping and playing which was an added bonus. The trip was really knowledgeable of rhe island. Nice to get out for the afternoon from the hotel.

Such a lot packed into 4 hours. Stephan the guide was very knowledgeable and also able to answer all our questions. Our driver Marcio was also excellent. A very good excursion and really glad we did it. Arriving back at 1200 meant we also had the afternoon.

The salt mine and floating was really weird, but fun! The Bkue eye was dependent on the sun coming out…fortunately it did just in time and that part was okay. There were a couple of other stops which were less exciting but nevertheless it was a good half day out.

Reiseleitung war gut. Aber die angefahrenen Ziele waren eher uninteressant. Das Blaue Auge Nachmittag anzufahren, wenn man es nur vormittags sehen kann, sobald die Sonne richtig steht, macht keinen Sinn. Fischerdorf ohne längeren Spaziergang macht auch keinen Sinn. Fische lagen nicht aus. Fata Morgana, naja.....einzig der Salzsee war ok.

Top Tour und an den einzelnen Punkten auf SAL toller Guide! Wir hätten uns vom Fahrer jedoch eventuell hier und da eine kleine Info zum Ort gewünscht ( wie lange die Fahrt ungefähr ist, Name des Ortes, vielleicht ein wenig Smalltalk. ). Freundlich war der Fahrer auf jeden Fall.

We chose the morning excursion with a good pick up time, Lucy our guide was extremely passionate and experienced in the areas we visited and Ady our driver made the journey fun with off roading as well as pointing out some history on the way. We would recommend as it’s a great way to see the rest of the island outside of Santa Maria and the bathing in the salt lake is not to be missed! Also what you pay for the trip contributes to the communities here! Education, school buses and social housing

Tour guide was funny and gave lots of information about Sal. The trip covered main areas of Sal and was a great variety for the price. Shopping in the capital was good, seeing freshly caught fish on the docks and some local music being played. The salt lakes were the best part, a fantastic, unique experience. The jeeps go off road so be prepared for a bumpy ride. Lots of uneven paths and slopes up and down so just be aware if you struggle with mobility.

Driver didn't speak 2 words the entire time. Edmundson had terrible English and couldnt understand basic questions like - what type of fish is that? At the fishing village which we wasted 45mins at while they tried to sell tat. Trip was planned so we were never going to see the blue eye at all. Overall complete con.

Unser Guide Bruna war spitze! Ihre Ehrlichkeit unschlagbar- sie sagte gleich zu Beginn der Nachmittagstour, dass wir das blaue Auge nicht sehen werden. Ja, es gab einen Hinweis in der Beschreibung aber nicht, dass es unmöglich ist, es nachmittags zu sehen. TUI sollte nachmittags einfach eine andere Tour machen- nicht zum blauen Auge- das ist einfach nur ein schwarzes Loch.

Ein super schöner Ausflug mit einer super sympathischen Guide*in. Dama hat es sehr gut verstanden, ihre deutschen Gäste in die Geheimnisse der Insel Sal einzubeziehen. Selten haben wir so eine gute Reiseführern erleben dürfen. Das hat richtig Spaß gemacht und wir können den Ausflug nur empfehlen.

Die Tour war vielseitig,es gab sehr viel zu sehen und zu erleben. Am meisten bin ich über die Deutsch sprachige Leitung (Bruna) begeistert, so eine tolle Frau sieht man selten, ich habe herzlich gelacht und zu gleich sehr viel erfahren über das Leben auf der Insel Sal. Sie hat sehr gut Deutsch gesprochen ich habe jhr sehr gern zugehört und allein dafür hat sie mehr Sterne verdient als ich vergeben kann. Danke nochmal für den tollen Tag💞

De zichtbaarheid in de jeep was achteraan heel beperkt wat jammer was, omdat we zo minder van de omgeving kunnen zien hebben, de mensen die vooraan in de jeep zaten hadden hier geen last van. De uitleg door de gids was beknopt maar wel interessant. De oudere mensen in de groep geraakten moeilijk achteraan in de jeep. Misschien is het goed om op voorhand aan te geven dat het blauwe oog niet te zien is in de namiddag, voor ons geen probleem.

Zeer goed georganiseerd. Vriendelijke en gedienstige begeleding met een uitgebreide informatie tijdens de tour. Realitisch en soms confronterend beeld van de lokale bevolking en hun beperkte middelen. Deze excursie was een absolute meerwaarde voor onze vakantie.

Very poor value for money. 4by 4 was difficult together in and out of. No safety belts in back of vehicle. Sights were saw were rather uninspiring. The salt lake was quite interesting but we were not informed of the difficulty of accessing the lake. Also no information was given about the rough terrain we covered. My husband can suffer with a bad back and was not happy with the journey.

Old dirt hotel ,mini bar not stocked , no tea or coffee in room unless you pay , lots of birds no food in the restaurant ,every time staff only chased them if they came near them sunbeds old and dirty beach sunbeds are just dog beds beach cushions belong in a rubbish site also dog beds dirty stained ,having picked hotel from Jane McDonald tv programme it’s a very expensive old dump we should have read reviews and believed them Kit surfers paradise management walk about blind experience 💩
