What to expect
The east is one of the jewels in the Algarve's crown, and this full day excursion offers a flavour of its local culture as well as a chance to get to know its biggest city. You'll visit Faro, Olhao, and Tavira and travel through beautiful countryside in the Ria Formosa National Park. Sofia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘This excursion is special because it brings the local culture to life. You'll see a performance of Fado music which is the heart of Portuguese tradition, a soulful singer fronts a group of musicians and together they convey passion, struggle, and longing. It's a hugely significant part of Portuguese culture.'We'll begin in Faro, the regional capital, where you'll have free time to explore the old town – the cathedral is a must-see. Next up is Olhao, a village on the banks of the Ria Formosa. You'll visit its famous fish market and then enjoy free time for lunch and shopping. Sofia adds, ‘As well as showcasing the fruits of the sea, the market is a good place to make contact with smallholders selling their own produce, such as honey, jams, cakes, and liqueurs.'In the afternoon, we'll head to Tavira to see its top sights and visit the castle for a stroll along its ramparts. Along with the castle, the seven-arched Roman bridge and a pair of historic churches are just a handful of the best things to do in Tavira. Cap off the day by dropping into a church for a live show of fado singing – the melancholic music genre that is a national treasure.

Für unseren Geschmack hatten wir für die einzelnen Stopps zu wenig Zeit. Andererseits, es war auch ein umfangreiches Programm. Besonders beeindruckt waren wir von der Fado-Show. Das alleine war schon den ganzen Ausflug wert.

Sadly this was catered more for French than British. The whole tour could have been completed in a couple of hours rather than an exhausting full day. The guide continually repeated the same information to pass to time talking about plants with no relevance to the tour. A poor gentleman was humiliated when he repeated he desperately needed to use the toilet and the guide replied ‘but you have just been’ and said this more than 3 times. He made a joke when the gentleman had gone

Der Ausflug war toll. Natürlich war es zur Mittagszeit heiß, aber damit muss man im August rechnen. Der Bus war sehr gut klimatisiert. In Olhão war es sehr voll, weil zu diesem Zeitpunkt ein Festival in der Stadt stattfand. Die Fado-Show war auf jeden Fall sehenswert.

Im Prinzip war das ein Gehetze von A nach B . Kaum Freizeit um sich mal selbst etwas mehr umzuschauen und wenn man eine längere Pause einlegen wollte für etwas essen oder trinken war man unter Zeitdruck. Es wurde viel erklärt aber auch irgendwie too much Information. Und die Fado Show war leider gar nicht nach unserem Geschmack, sehr laut und so leid es mir tut klang das alles gleich und ein Geschrei. Hätte mir lieber Tavira angeschaut. Olhao interessant aber überlaufen und nicht genug Freizeit

Von Faro war ich enttäuscht, die Altstadt heruntergekommen, der Spaziergang um die Stadtmauer hat kein Flair. Die lange Zeit dort war Verschwendung. Die beiden anderen Städte waren sehenswert und das Faro Konzert interessant, die Musiker und die Sängerin echt toll.

Faro only 30 free time visit very rushed. Olhao 2 hours free time nothing particularly of interest and taviria was a little better , fado show was interesting too long . Overall I was bored with this trip and the guide kept repeating himself .

On nous a fait lever très tôt, non pas pour gagner en temps de visite mais pour faire par 5 fois , le ramassage d’autres personnes , occasionnants de nombreux détours; et idem , au retour; donc beaucoup d’ heures de car pour peu de distance, réelle entre notre hôtel et Gavira la ville la plus éloigné de notre hôtel Tui.Cela nous a empêchés de voir de plus près la lagune de Tabita, ce qui était précisé dans votre descriptif de l’excursion. Par contre , point positif , le spectacle de Fado .

Ce que nous avons apprécié José le guide qui nous a fait visiter la côte ouest ses commentaires sa culture et son contact ont été très enrichissant… Au delà la visite de Lisbonne est trop courte, pas assez de temps plus de temps dans les trajets que sur place, 2 jours au minimum quitte à loger sur place une nuit !

Le temps pour récupérer et ré déposer tout le monde dans les différents hôtels est trop long. 2 h aller et 2 h retour. C’est bien trop pour un parcours de normalement à peine 1 heure. Et aucune information en français inadmissible alors que pour un couple nous avons subit les informations en néerlandais et bien sur anglais. Rien en français. Au prix que nous payons ce n’est pas normal. Sinon bien sûr le guide était très sympathique.

We had a wonderful day travelling to the eastern side of the Algarve coast. The tour started with a visit to Faro where we visited the cathedral. We then moved on to the town of Olhao to see the fish market Next was Tavira where we saw an amazing Fado concert, a really emotional experience. The last stop was at a viewing point over looking the Ria Formosa Nation Park, a breath taking sight. The tour was made even better by our guide Vasco, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a great character .

Abfahrten sollte mit Frühstückszeit im Hotel abgestimmt werden. Für Tavira sollte mehr Zeit vorhanden sein. Albacora wäre sicherlich auch interessant zu besuchen, im Rahmen von Tavira. Ein grosses Lob für die Reiseleiterin.

La visite de la côte Est, avec sa réserve naturelle, est intéressante pour une comparaison avec celle de l'Ouest plus touristique et avec une concentration d'hôtels. Le temps libre a été apprécié à Olhao avec la possibilité de se restaurer sur place. Le concert de fado dans une très belle église de Tavira a été un très joli moment. Le guide a apporté beaucoup d'éléments sur l'histoire du Portugal.

Tavira ist eindeutig der schönste der angefahrenen Orte, der Aufenthalt zur freien Verfügung sollte dort etwas länger sein. Die Markthallen in Olhao werden etwas zu spät erreicht, als wir dort ankamen, waren die Fischhändler bereits am Aufräumen. Ein häufiges Problem bei Tagesfahrten ergab sich auch hier, die Möglichkeit, insbesondere für Frauen, eine (halbwegs saubere, mit Toilettenpapier) Toilette aufzusuchen. Die Reiseleiterin Ana hat uns die Algarve wieder ein Stück näher gebracht. Sie konnte uns alles super erklären. Das Fadokonzert in Tavira war toll. Auch die Orte Olhão und Cacela Velha Geheimtipps. Faro eine schöne Stadt, der Ausflug ist insgesamt zu empfehlen.

De Fado was leuk, maar de excursie was vreselijk. In Faro hebben we alleen maar bij een deur staan kijken en sinaasappelbomen. Er was heel weinig echte informatie, behalve wat je zag. We werden naar een ander plaatsje gereden en daar moesten we ons zelf een paar uur bezighouden Het laatste plaatsje, was de bus uit, rondje rond de kerk en weer bus in. Voor ons een verloren dag, die zeker het geld niet waard was.
