What to expect
The road less travelled brings you to the ‘other Andalusia' in the highlands of the Sierra Nevada. You'll drive past rocky outcrops, olive groves, almond and cork trees as well as cultivated farmland en route. We'll stop in Puerto La Ragua and Guadix, where you'll visit one of its famous cave homes. Ana, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘With around 2000 underground dwellings, Guadix tops the charts in Europe for the number of cave homes, and some are thought to be 1000 years old. These aren't naturally formed caves - they have been hewn from the rock. Living in a cave is actually very appealing in the hot, Andalusian summers.' The first stop of the tour will be at Puerto La Ragua, where there'll be a short walk through the pine trees. Enjoy the cool, mountain air in the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada which sits at 2000m altitude. Here, you'll be offered a little picnic of Spanish wine and olives. Then in the foothills, head past shark fin-shaped peaks to Guadix – a fantastical town that looks like it's jumped out of the pages of The Hobbit.You'll notice white chimneys sprouting from the grassy landscape and mysterious whitewashed doorways leading into the rocky hillsides – clues to the unusual architecture of the town. You'll get to see inside one of these unusual cave dweller's homes, and gain an understanding of the traditional lives of the locals when you stop at an earthenware shop to see hand-painted ceramics and watch a pottery-making demonstration.

The scenery was amazing, the stops were quality too. The pottery place was interesting and not expensive so brilliant. The interpreter was clear and made the trip interesting and she was amazing with her languages. The driver had a lot to deal with but was such an professional

Because the weather was low cloud and rain we were unable to see or enjoy the mountains or see the stunning views the short walk had to be rushed and photo options through out the day were limited the guide did a good job explaining and sharing her knowledge just bad luck the weather was not on are side that day also the coffee stop and lunch stop both were excellent and very well controlled by the guide

A thoroughly enjoyable excursion that ticked all the boxes for what we were expecting. A full days trip (10 hours) that was supported by an excellent driver and guide. Participants need to be made aware that a long time is spent on the coach but we appreciated that to fulfill our expectations this needed to be so. The best excursion we have ever been party to.

Het was een beleving,zeker met een gids als els ondanks dat zij het moest doen in 3 talen. Zij is een wandelende encyclopedie. Een aardader voor iedereen Dank U els en ook het tui team ter plaatse,zelden zo een goed team gehad. Het hotel was wat anders, het leek meer op een kindercreche dan op hotel,lawaai en nog eens lawaai. Kamer zeer goed en eten was weinig van te zeggen behalve niet altijd warm. Ik zou zeggen schrapt dit hotel in de aanbieding ,het lawaai is niet te aarden. daardoor imagosch

Heel leuke dag gehad. Onze begeleidster Els heeft dat super gedaan. Het restaurant was ietsje minder voor mij maar dat was meer mijn eigen opinie. Je wordt ook een beetje een groep en dat is ook leuk. Een aanrader.

Het was een lange maar leuke en leerzame dag waarop onze reisleidster Els ons ontzettend veel vertelde en erg behulpzaam bij het bestellen van de lunch. Die hadden we bij een restaurant waar ze dachten dat we allemaal uitgehongerd waten, zo groot waten de porties. Deze excursie durven we iedereen aan te bevelen.

Over het algemeen leuk en leerzaam, veel onbekende informatie, het bezoek aan de pottenbakkerij, voor ons een hoogtepunt, was erg kort, door te schuiven in de andere onderdelen kan hiervoor meer tijd vrigemaakt worden, was jammer.

Knowledgable and friendly Beautiful scenery and photo opps Lunch meal (paid for separate) was great value for money Pottery demo & workshop very interesting Cons Very long day, almost 10 hrs (advertised as 4-8) Not enough time at attractions, would reduce stops less interesting (such as cave house) Tour group too big, hard to keep track of everyone/time management “Picnic”was tinned olives from Aldi and wine in a sippy cup. Rude group (no fault of TUI)

Echt top uitstap en vooral Guadix ,leek wel alsof je je bij hobbits waande, en zeker het lieve dametje van 80 waar we in haar prachtig huisje mochten binnen gaan en bewonderen, Sierra Nevada ook echt de moeite waard ,en als laatste, amaai de pottenbakkerij....hoe die man op een paar minuten 3 prachtige voorwerpen kon "draaien " ongelooflijk ...kortom gezegd wijzelf hebben een een prachtige dag gehad ??

Els als begeleidster en gids is gewoon top! Een dame die vlot 4 talen (zo ver ik weet) spreekt en met vol enthousiasme een uitleg kan geven is niet weggelegd voor iedereen. Heel wat nuttige info en weetjes gehad die een belangrijke bijdrage leverden gedurende de trip. De omgeving was prachtig en het restaurant waar we de lunch deden was super. Het eten en drinken was op hoog niveau voor een klein prijsje. Uitstap, uitzichten en uitleg was meer dan zijn geld waard en zouden we zo overdoen.
