Meaning ‘middle of the sky', Meteora is a unique phenomenon and without doubt one of the greatest sights in Greece. A drive through the region of Thessaly and a visit to Meteora – the monastic mountains – is quite simply going to leave you open-mouthed in awe.These ancient Greek Orthodox monasteries sit on top of sandstone towers, carved out by natural elements. Moulded by wind and rain – and by earthquakes – they really are remarkable geology. Originally there were 24 religious centres built, of which six remain active.Access to these incredible buildings was once by a network of drawbridges, stairways and a system of ropes and pulleys to winch the monks up and down in baskets, so they were literally ‘suspended in the air'. Thankfully, you can now access them by handy service elevators when you pay a visit. After exploring the monasteries of St Stefanos and either Varlaam or Rousanou, there'll be a stop in the beautiful town of Kalambaka for a lunch break and free time to explore.

Es war immer genügend Zeit zum Verweilen. Das die Fahrt lange war, wusste man, trotzdem wäre es sinnhaft nicht 8 Stunden Dauer anzugeben. Wir waren von 6.00 bis 21.30 Uhr unterwegs. Es war anstrengend, aber das Erkebnus hat dich gelohnt. Tolle Guide und Busfahrer!!

Eintrittspreise sollten enthalten sein . Busfahrt war sehr lange, doch nicht anders möglich, wenn man diese Klöster besichtigen will

Wir hatten am 12.05. ein Tag vor der Tour gebucht und folgende Bestätigung erhalten: Ticketart: 2x Tour auf Deutsch Datum: Dienstag, 13 Mai 2025 Zeit: 06:10 (06:10 AM Name des Hotels: Ammon Zeus Ort der Abholung:: Church Main Road Wie immer bei Ausflügen, warteten wir am Hotel, leider vergeblich. Bei Nachfragen im Hotel, vermutete dann ein Angestellter dass es die Straße oberhalb des Hotels sein kann. Google kennt diese Straße (ohne weitere Angaben) auch nicht !! Wir bittet um Rückerstattung

Anstrengend aber lohnenswert. Statt für den Zustieg des Guides im Frühverkehr durch Saloniki zu stauen, könnte ein günstigerer Einstiegspunkt gewählt werden.

Meteora sehr sehenswert. Die Reiseleiterin hat viel Wissen vermittelt. Wunderschöne Landschaft und Ausblicke. Wer sie besuchen will sollte wissen, dass die Anreise lang ist und der Weg auch wieder zurück gefahren werden muss. Wirklich sehr schlecht war das Restaurant zum Mittagessen, das Essen war nur eine Pampe und total überteuert. Also lieber ein anderes Restaurant aufsuchen als das welches vorgesehen ist

Die Klöster sind beeindruckend, allerdings steht die Zeit der Anreise aus Chalkidiki in keinem sinnvollen Verhältnis zur Zeit der Besichtigung. Das sollte in die Beschreibung erwähnt werden. Abfahrt Hotel 6:30, Ankunft Meteora 12:00, Besichtigung bis ca. 14:30, Mittagessen, Rückkehr 20:30 bei einem der Hotels mit der kürzesten Anreise. Die Reiseleiterin Maria hat und unterwegs mit interessanten Informationen unterhalten

Alles gut bloß man sollte mitteilen wann mann wieder im Hotel zurück ist die meisten haben kein Abend Essen mehr bekommen.

Meteora ist unglaublich schön und war ein tolles Erlebnis. Ein sehr großer Minuspunkt war das Mittagessen. Versprochen war noch ein Ausflug nach Kalambaka mit Essen. Es gab vorgefertigtes Essen im vorgeschriebenen Restaurant. Die Stadt musste danach aus dem Bus besichtigt werden. Das war sehr schade
