The desolate beauty of inland Sal is in stark contrast to the white sands of its coast. On this off-road safari, you'll explore Murdeira Bay, the Buracona lagoon, the ocean-like sands of Terra Boa and Pedra de Lume. Beyond the most popular sights, you'll also get a glimpse of local life in Palmeira and Espargos. Rodrigo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘I've lived on Sal all my life, and I'm still fascinated by my island's colourful street art. It's a vivid reflection of our culture and our daily lives.'Starting with a pit stop at Murdeira Bay, you'll trundle off in a closed 4x4 – we're the only ones using covered off-roaders – to the fishing village of Palmeira on the west coast. Its palm tree-lined streets are dotted with mural-painted cafés and tiny shops. Rodrigo says, ‘Palmeira's kaleidoscopic – and cluttered – souvenir shops are an attraction in themselves.' Then it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for how it shimmers when hit by sunlight.Next, you'll witness the ocean-like sands and mirage of Terra Boa. An optical phenomenon, in which hot rays of light reflect distant objects and the sky, creates the illusion of a desert lake. Back on the road, there's a pit stop at a viewpoint, where you can enjoy an elevated panorama of Espargos, the island's capital. Wind down with a natural spa treatment in the Dead Sea-like lagoon of Pedra de Lume. Floating in one of the world's saltiest waters and inside an extinct volcano crater is a buoyant way to end the tour.

Leuke excursies voor een halve dag. Zit je achterin de jeep dan wordt je aardig door elkaar geschut, moet je wel tegen kunnen. Onze gids was heel leuk, sprak goed Engels en kon veel leuke dingen vertellen over het eiland. Het zoutmeer viel beetje tegen maar oké om gedaan te hebben. Wij hadden tussendoor ook gelegenheid om iets te drinken te kopen ( maar zelf meenemen handig) en toilet bezoeken. Al met al leuke middag gehad.

Guide was very informative and able to respond to questions. Driver was late at pick up time which was disappointing when TUI staff recommend you arrive 10 minutes early. There may have been a genuine excuse, and he didn’t disappoint throughout the trip make sure we entered and exited vehicle without banging our heads! ??

I didn’t enjoy being told we would see the blue eye and then once we booked it said it depends on sun position. TUI reps must have known this too. Needless to say that part of the trip was rather disappointing. We were picked up in the oldest 4x4 truck imaginable. The seats were very worn and no seat belts and a most uncomfortable ride. It was hard getting in and out the back of the vehicle at each stop. One of our fellow passengers cut his head and it bled quite a lot.

Der Guide Stephen war super in jeder Hinsicht: informativ, freundlich, aufmerksam und kompetent bei Fragen. Der Fahrer war auch sehr nett und aufmerksam. Ein Top-Team beide. Wir hatten aber natürlich das Glück im Jeep des Guide zu sein. Im zweiten Jeep ohne Guide wäre die Bewertung etwas anders ausgefallen.

Guide Ronny hat uns viele Informationen zu den verschiedenen Inseln und die landestypischen Gepflogenheiten vermittelt, war Super. Die Fahrt zum blauen Auge und zur Fatamorgana war sehr holprig. Dass das blaue Auge zu dieser Jahreszeit nur noch zu einem Bruchteil zu sehen ist, hätte man den Teilnehmern vorab sagen sollen

Super ochtend gehad! Gids wist heel veel over het eiland Sal en de geschiedenis van Kaapverdië in het algemeen. Heel veel gezien en geleerd en alles in een relaxed tempo. Zoutmeer was een mooie ervaring. Ik had na de uitleg van Tui verwacht dat het te doen was met een geblesseerd been maar dat viel wel echt tegen. Gids en chauffeur waren hierbij wel heel behulpzaam. Maar overall een hele mooie excursie, zeker een aanrader!

8 adults in a small 4x4 wuth limited air conditioning - we felt like cattle going to market. Only part of the trip we liked was the salt lake. Everything else was pointless and a waste of time. This trip should not go ahead in the afternoon if you can't see the blue eye.

The only thing I think could be improved would be have little extra time at the salt lakes as you didn't have much time to get changed have a dip in the lake get changed again and back to the 4x4 in 20 30 minutes.

Uncomfortable vehicle with difficult access/egress. Too much standing around in hot sunshine with no shade. Give people warning to wear hats. Also advice on taking plenty of drinking water or supply some. Guide was very knowledgeable but spoke very fast so it was difficult to understand him with his accent. Our driver was excellent considering how poor some of the terrain is. Again, we were not warned about this which led to back ache.

The tour was really good. Our guide, Hiberr was a great guide and made us all feel safe and comfortable on the tour. Lots of local knowledge and very funny. Would have been nice to stay in some of the places for longer but it was a half day tour and we covered a lot. The jeeps are great fun too.

Great experience overall and good to see several areas/sites in a half day but some of it was rushed. Would have liked a bit more info/description prior to the event. Guide was very knowledgable and about the right input. 4x4 driver did well! The rum shop/gifts seemed expensive and felt like a captive audience…obviously no pressure to buy!! Nice that it was a closed in 4x4 vehicle, and a small group. To improve: Provisionally of a bottle of water would be good. Longer at the salt lake?

We could have had a bit more time, 15 min more, to walk around Palmeira (the fishing town) as it felt really rushed and you couldn’t even stop properly to take a picture. Other than that tour was very interesting and well thought out, our guide Edmundson I think, was very entertaining and made sure we knew all necessary information about every place we visited.

Really uncomfortable experience with too many people in rach 4 x 4. The blue eye experience is not safe for either tourists or the gentleman that stands infront of the tourists in the cave. If someone slipped he has nothing to stop him falling in as he was just balanced on the edge of a rock. Really uncomfortable to see

Die halbtägige Inselrundfahrt war toll organisiert, alles hat gut geklappt. Die Führerin hat sehr gut Deutsch gesprochen und wir haben die gesamte Zeit genossen. Man bekommt einen sehr guten Eindruck von der Insel.

In een halve dag zie je bijna alle highlights van het eiland. Dat zijn er niet superveel dus daarom zou je de tour wat saai kunnen vinden. Desalniettemin was de sfeer heel goed, fijne reisleiders en goede uitleg.

Unser Guide Bruna war super nett, witzig und konnte mit viel Wissen über Sal und die Umgebung glänzen. Der Fahrer des Wagens war zuvorkommend und fuhr sehr sicher (und nicht zu langsam ;) ) auch über holprige Wege. Wir können die Tour am frühen Vormittag sehr empfehlen!
