What better way to spend a few hours than savouring the delights of Mahon, Menorca's history-steeped capital? On this half-day tour, you'll enjoy a harbour boat trip, have free time to explore the old town on market day and taste the goods at a historic distillery. Nicola, one of our expert local guides, says, “If you scratch beneath the surface, you'll find the British influence in many older buildings such as sash windows, panelled doors, lunettes and more. But a uniquely Menorquin touch is the ruby-red paint on these houses.”First up is a boat trip in Mahon harbour – the second largest in the world. Glide between fortified islets and admire the opulent villas lining the waterfront on either side. Some date from the 18th century, when Menorca was a British colony. The on-board commentary will fill you in on the historic details, while the lower deck windows give you a great underwater perspective. Back on land, it's on to the old Xoriguer gin distillery. Menorca's favourite tipple has been made here, using the same recipe, since 1736 – yet another symbol of the island's British heritage. Grab a taste at the distillery before some free time in the capital.You'll have around one-and-a-half to two hours to wander the narrow cobbled streets of Mahon under your own steam, admiring its Georgian town houses, baroque churches and palm-lined squares. We visit here on market days, so head to the centrally located Plaza del Carme, where there's a market of vendors hawking everything from cured meats to fresh fruit under the cloisters of a 17th-century convent. Among the stalls, look out for the distinctively square-shaped cheese, Queso Mahón-Menorca, it has a mild, buttery flavour and is a top choice for cheese-lovers looking to take home a memento of Mahon.

Boat was crowded and the viewing experience poor . You had to bend over on the seat to see through window which was uncomfortable. Gin tasting was rushed and to crowded to enjoy!

On the boat tour all the commentary was for items of interest on the left of the boat, we were on the right. If everyone moved to the left of the boat to see the sights it would have unbalanced the boat. There were just 3 items of interest mentioned on the right hand side of the boat. I am not a gin drinker, so the distillery was not of much interest. The centre of Mahón however was very interesting.

The best part of the tour was the guide who's name i think is Nichola. She has been with tui for over 30 years and was brilliant. Very clear ,articulate and extremely informative. Starting from getting on the coach all the way to Mahon pointing out so much of interest. A great asset to TUI

This excursion was very enjoyable and offered great value for money. It would've been nice to have had a little longer free time in Mahon. Besides that, it was brilliant. That is only a minor criticism. Our rep Nic was brilliant, she had incredible knowledge of the island and kept us all entertained throughout the experiences.

The harbour boat trip was lovely. I enjoyed Mahon town but it would have been good to have a longer time there. The visit for gin tasting was really fun and interesting . I think the length could have been increased . The guide Nicola was excellent and gave a commentary on the bus which was really interesting . Nicola was helpful and clear in her instructions . A good experience overall just try and consider lengthening it

It was a very well organised experience. The boat trip around the harbour was excellent and very informative. Our guide, Nicola, was very knowledgeable about the area. The time in Mahón flew by so if we could have had a bit longer there it would be been ideal.

Boat tour 10/10. Gin tour- very little time. Very busy. Mahon very little time. Needed to be told church closed 12 noon until 3.00 pm. Walk from coach to boat and then back very long and not suitable for people with walking difficulties. Information on this point in advance would have been helpful. Overall enjoyable. Guide very nice.

We love the trip the guide was outstanding. She was full of information making it clear and understandable. We would’ve loved to have been a little longer so we could spend more time in the city as we felt rushed but we understand the other people would not want to talk to be long.

Rather a bit too early pickup as we missed breakfast Quite surprised that we could not get milk for a cup of tea on board the boat. Trip was a bit pricey. Overall the lady who took us was really nice and made the trip enjoyable.

The guide was excellent. Sadly the glass on the glass bottomed boat needed a good clean. You couldn’t see through it!! It was a long walk from where the coach dropped us off at the port for the boat trip and then again for the gin tasting. Surely the two events could be held immediately one after the other?

Enjoyed the fact that there was limited walking and the coach dropped and picked up so close to the attractions. Loved the boat tour , long enough, great information, snacks and drinks available perfect viewing. Gin tour was good but i don't particularly like gin but my partner does and she enjoyed the tasting session. Market was pleasant enough to work round and two hours was long enough.

Best bit: The harbour boat tour, beautiful trip and v informative. Although the “glass bottom “ bit was underwhelming Ok bits: guide and gin etc. Gin is really a merchandising opportunity, but then you always get those. Watch out. The “walking tour “ isn’t. It’s just a quick orientation instructions and then off you pop by yourself. We were fine with that but we’re expecting something a bit more directed.

The Tui tour guide made the trip. She was very personable and also incredibly knowledgeable about the island. The trip was described as a market, harbour and distillery tour but the guide went above and beyond delivering a whole history lesson as we drove an hour across the island as we passed different things. I was very impressed and it was very engaging.

Die Bootstour war definitiv das Beste, gefolgt von dem Besuch in der Destillerie. Was ich ein wenig unglücklich fand, war, dass es wirklich alles auf Englisch war, es war super interessant, aber bei nicht so guten Englisch Kenntnissen schwierig zu verstehen. Uhrzeit der freien Verfügung etwas unglücklich, da noch keine Geschäfte geöffnet hatten. Überfordert Sehenswürdigkeiten zu finden. Optional wäre Führung gut gewesen, wer gewollt hätte. Sonst war es sehr schön und interessant.

The trip to Mahon was interesting with a lovely visit to the church. I never thought I'd enjoy gin, but the Pomada was so refreshing. Followed by a lovely boat trip learning all about the Port.

Boat trip good. Didn’t see anything from the glass bottom. Need to tell people it’s 2.5 hours free time in Mahon and that it’s hilly. Some people were struggling to get back up to the coach. Good info about where to go and toilets. Perhaps arrived 30’mins too early as nothing was open at 9.15. Nothing was open.

The only bad point, if you’re not in the first few to get on the boat, you sit upstairs, there is no cover, it was 35’c and no breeze. Not a pleasant 15 minutes, until the boat got going. Didn’t get to see the glass bottom, it’s first come first served, being on the top deck, couldn’t get in, the other passengers are supposed to come out after a few minutes, but they didn’t, it’s not supervised. Shame, but not much to see anyway.

Our guide Nicola was very knowledgeable and gave lots of interesting information during the journey. I think it was misleading to advertise the boat tour as 'glass-bottomed' as the children were disappointed that there were only 4 small viewing windows that we could only look through for a short time. I also think you should have your 'children' age reduced as I was a single adult with 3 under 16s but could only pay for one child. Overall it was an enjoyable day out.

Es sollte Headsets mit Übersetzung geben, damit auch Kinder etwas verstehen können. Im Bus war die Klimaanlage so laut, dass man nichts von den Ansagen / Beschreibungen verstehen könnte.

Absolutely loved this trip! The tour guide was fantastic, amazingly knowledgable, helpful and polite. The timing of everything was perfect and the boat trip at the end was a lovely way to finish the experience before we travelled back. The market was good and our guide had recommended a cafe which was lovely! Technically a half day trip but was more like a full day trip.

The tour guide was good. Day started too early. In Mao by 9am,but nowhere opened until 10am. Market only just setting up,walked round empty streets for 1hr.In the end sat in the bus depot for 30 mins waiting to get back on coach as nothing else to do. Gin distillery was ok but nothing provided for u18, not even a local drink or Fanta. Paid full price for a 14 and 17 but nothing. Boat was good, but shame about the walk from drop off. Overall, poor value for money and nothing for children.

The trip gave us a chance to see a little of the harbour & surrounding areas & the guide was really informative about the history of Mahón however we arrived early & wasn’t told the shop’s didnt open until 10am & the market was just setting up. I wouldn’t have liked to have been on the boat any longer than we were as it was so hot. The gin distillery was a disappointment although once again the guide was very informative but I’m not keen on gin anyway. I was glad to get back to the resort.

Great
The trip around the harbour was great & Mahon is worth a visit, but the Gin "Distillery" is just a sales opportunity to try & buy different types of Gins from the shop rather than look around the Distillery. Still worth a visit though.
