What to expect
The Referta levada walk is an easy stroll through lush countryside to hidden gems that are only accessible by foot. You'll spend the morning following this 5.5km-long levada trail from Referta to Castelejo, winding your way through agricultural terraces and charming villages.If you're interested in seeing how locals manage to farm the land in Madeira, then this walking tour will give you an insight into the farming lifestyle on the island. You'll join an experienced guide for a walk along the Referta levada past the agricultural terraces cut into the hillsides to grow fruit and vegetables.You'll see some of the villages in the north-east pop up in the distance as well as the flora and fauna that can be found on the island. Your guide will help to point out endemic species and with only nature around you, you'll be able to enjoy a few hours of peace and tranquillity in Madeira.

What to remember
Not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. Wear sports shoes with a good grip or walking boots. Be prepared for all weather conditions due to the changeable weather. Wear sunblock and a hat during summer, and bring a light jacket during other months

Trotz Feuchtigkeit eine schöne 6 Km Wanderung mit deutsch und englisch sprechender Reiseführerin. Die Wege sind schmal, bei Feuchtigkeit schlammig, rutschig und teilweise ungesichert. Für Menschen mit Gleichgewichtsproblemen könnte dies problematisch werden.

De gids was super vriendelijk en opgewekt. Zij hield veel rekening met elk soort wandelaar. Voor sommigen mocht het sneller gaan, voor anderen bleek hun wandelschoenen toch niet aangepast 🙄maar de gids ging er super mee om

Het was een redelijk makkelijke maar wel zeer modderige wandeling. Ik denk wanneer je 1 Levada wandeling hebt gedaan dat je al die andere niet hoeft te doen. Je moet erg uitkijken waar je loopt. Je loopt langs diepe afgronden. Niet echt relaxed. Het was een nieuwe ervaring. Had die niet willen missen maar al die andere Levada wandelingen hoeven voor mij niet.

The walk and scenery were really beautiful . The only problem was the guide . After telling us all how to walk properly ! he promptly fell over within the first five minutes of setting off. Then he started proffering many of his rather strong opinions with unnecessary exuberance. From climate change to political matters . This soon became rather inappropriate to say the least . The final straw was him arguing with several of the guests . With one guy the guide actually got quite aggressive .

Guide Margareta bei der Levadawanderung sehr auf Sicherheit bedacht. Hat uns einiges Interessantes zu Land und Leute vermittelt. Bananenkuchen am Ende in Cafe sehr zu empfehlen. Wanderung ist sehr abenteuerlich.

Expected an English led guide experience but was part of a multicultural group. Delay in receiving information during tour stops on the Lavada walk. Termination point was crowded with earlier tours ending and no opportunity to have refreshments in the cafe. Only the natural environment and some views made the experience worth while. No complaints about the experience guide who did his best to keep us informed. My wife and I were the only two from the UK on this experience!

Die Gruppe bestand aus 14 Teilnehmern und der Guide ging vorneweg. Ab der Mitte der Gruppe hat man die Ausführungen des Guides nicht mehr verstanden. Hier wäre es empfehlenswert Audio Geräte zu verwenden. Es ust einfach örgerlich, wenn die Information an der Akkustik scheitert.

Hallo, grundsätzlich eine schöne Wanderung. Leider sehr schmaler Weg. Man muss sich sehr konzentrieren und kann die Umgebung nicht so gut wahrnehmen. In der Ausschreibung sollte der schmale Weg erwähnt werden. Der Guide hat gut erklärt. VG

Der Picknickplatz könnte etwas besser sein. Zum Teil reparaturdedürftige Sicherungseinrichtungen. Die überlaufene Gaststätte hat deutlich zu knappes Sanitärangebot. Die Wanderung selbst war sehr schön und Ponchos wurden vom Veranstalter bereitgestellt.

Die Dame von TUI die den Walk begleitet hat war super. Total sympathisch, hat sehr auf alle der Gruppe geachtet. Unheimlich kompetent konnte sie alles erklären und wirklich jede gestellte Frage gut beantworten. Es war ein ganz tolles Erlebnis für uns.

We liked the views and the fact the walk was in a horseshoe shape so you could see where you had been. The landscape was interesting with an agricultural feel, which was different to other parts of the island. The walk is nice and leisurely with a gentle gradient throughout.

Walk was incredibly muddy, this needs to be stressed more to reps so they can pass this on to customers incase they are elderly or not too steady on their feet. One older gentleman fell over in the mud, it was so slippery. The tour guide was amazing!

Le guide demandait si on désirait un stick de marche. Il ne me semblait pas utile mais après avoir fait quelques.metres et vu la configuration j'ai regrette. Le guide devrait avertir un peu plus de l'état des levadas et du manque de garde-corps sur le parcours notamment pour les personnes souffrant de vertige
