What to expect
Embark on an adventure in the heart of Hamburg at one of its newest attractions - the Green Bunker. This imposing grey flak bunker, constructed during World War II as a protective shelter for the populace, has served various roles over the decades. From emergency accommodation and material storage facility to vaccination station and Cold War refuge, this concrete behemoth has seen it all. In the wake of reunification, the bunker was repurposed and revitalised. Today, it's not just a historical monument but also a hub of activity where you can climb, party, attend concerts and readings, savour delectable meals, and even spend the night in the hotel. The bunker is now home to over 4,000 trees and large shrubs, forming an urban forest that showcases how cities can adapt for the future.Join the knowledgeable and engaging tour guides on a journey through time, tracing the bunker's evolution from its inception to the present day. They'll regale you with tales from the Heiligengeistfeld television studio, elucidate the sustainable greening concept, and recount how the bunker embarked on its third lease of life a few years ago. From the rooftop garden, you'll be treated to a sweeping 360-degree panoramic view of Hamburg's iconic landmarks including the Millerntor Stadium, Dancing Towers, Elbphilharmonie, Köhlbrand Bridge, container port, Bismarck Monument, and TV tower. It's the ideal vantage point to select your next destination in Hamburg.
