What to expect
Explore the Arctic Helsinki directly from the comfort of your Helsinki city hotel. Depending on the conditions, you'll either drive a hovercraft across solid ice conditions or an ice-breaking steel boat in times when the sea starts to freeze. Watching the ice breaking under the steel boat is as great of a thrill as flying low over the sea in a hovercraft. Once parked on the ice or on an island, the silence of the archipelago is breathtaking. Floating around on top of ice-cold water is the best experience! An island nature trail walk and a picnic lunch are enjoyed after the float.At the hub in Gumbostrand, you'll be provided with warm clothing for the day and safety equipment. You can arrive in your usual winter clothing, and you'll be provided with everything you need for the tour! Know in advance:
Please arrive in your usual seasonal clothing. You'll be provided with the necessary equipment to stay warm and dry during the whole trip
The equipment includes a whole body floatation suit, life vest, winter gloves, hat and winter boots
It is recommended to wear your own wool pullover and wool socks in your winter boots since this is a winter outdoor experience
No prior experience needed. You do not even need to be able to swim
The means of transportation depend on the ice and wind conditions. Last-minute changes to the means of transportation might occur
You'll be guided during the whole day by the supervisors
The tour runs in English and Finnish. French and Swedish tours are on request
This trip is of an easy physical level. You can attend this tour with regular physical capabilities, although you have to be able to get in and out of the boat on different piers, walk on nature paths, in nature or on cliffs on tours with island stops
Transport to Gumbostrand departure port is optional. You can book a pick-up and drop-off service by contacting the local partner. You'll find the contact details on the voucher
