Spinalonga is one of Crete's most talked about sights. It was Europe's last leper colony and scores of lepers lived here, in exile from the mainland, until 1957. Sail to this eerie island just 15-minutes from the mainland and explore this relic of the past.Arriving at the island, you'll find yourself immersed in its history right away. Over the years, it's been a Venetian outpost, an Ottoman town and most notoriously, a leper colony which led to it being dubbed the ‘isle of tears'.A guided walk will show you around the Venetian fortress and the main street lined with the shops and houses where the lepers attempted to live ordinary lives. You'll get to look round the old hospital and graveyard, too. Later, you'll sail back to Elounda where you can swim in the sea, stretch out in the sunshine or watch the world go by at a waterside café. There's also free time to find lunch in a local taverna and a visit to the chic resort of Agios Nikolaos.

Die Reiseleiterin war sehr gut, sie hat nicht nur von Spinalonga so erzählt, dass man gut zuhören konnte und interessante Informationen weitergegeben, sondern auch allgemeine, interessante Informationen über Kreta einfließen lassen. Wir hätten uns eine halbe Stunde mehr Zeit nach der Führung gewünscht, um noch einmal Wege auf der Insel zu laufen, die nicht in der Führung enthalten waren.

Es war eine wirklich schöne Tour und man hat viel gesehen von den drei abgefahrenen Orten. Wenn man westlich von Heraklion im Hotel ist dauert die Bustour leider sehr lange, da man auf dem Weg viele Hotels anfährt - sollte man unbedingt bedenken.

After paying for the trip I was surprised to find that when we got to Spinalonga we then needed to pay a further 20 euros per person to get in. I haven’t been on a TUI excursion before where I’ve needed to pay to get into where we are going. I’m sure it was in the small print somewhere but I wasn’t expecting it. Also can you stop saying you need to take your passport on trips when you don’t. I had to run back to my room to get it only to find out it wasn’t needed.

The trip is well worth it! I booked the no frills tour so didnt have the lunch included so had more free time at Elounda (2 hours 15) where i had time to grab a quick lunch myself and have more time to explore. Spinalonga is really interesting to visit and our guide Athena was really knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The no frills tour doesn't include the €20 entry fee on Spinalonga, which I was well aware of, but I preferred this as spent less overall, including a quicker lunch.

Oh this is the best experience ever! Even though we had been to the island before, we found out more information about what happened on the island since we had been there last. The island has so much more to give. I can’t wait to go back and take in more information about the island. I am reading the book ‘the island’ which I can now relate to having seeing the island. I can’t fault the whole trip and the rep who give us so much information about the island. Would recommend to everyone.

Fijne dag gehad, was de moeite waard. Jammer dat wij er achteraf achter kwamen dat er voor 65 plussers een entree tarief was van 10 euro ipv de door ons betaalde 20 euro pp. Dit had de reisleidster toch even dienen mede te delen.

Es war ein schöner Tag mit vielen interessanten Informationen. Den Aufenthalt in Agios Nikolaos fanden wir etwas zu kurz. Statt 1 Stunde 15 Minuten wären 2 Stunden angenehmer gewesen. Was leider sehr anstrengend war, waren die vielen Stopps an den ganzen Hotels. Das hat sehr viel Zeit gekostet. Der Busfahrer und der Guide waren sehr gut ??

Die Tour mit Elena über die Insel war wirklich fantastisch. Elena hat die Führung sehr lebendig gestaltet und hat auch viele Ereignisse aus ihrem eigenen Leben mit eingebracht. Auch während der Busfahrt erfuhren wir viel über das Leben auf Kreta. Kurzum es war von allem was dabei. Der Aufenthalt in Agios Nikolaos hätte meiner Meinung nach kürzer sein dürfen bzw. wäre an sich nicht unbedingt notwendig gewesen.

Tour was run quite efficiently, and was very informative. However, I was surprised by the fact that I would have pay for entrance tickets to Spinalonga on the day. The description was of a full tour of the site, with the implication therefore that entrance was included. No where did it state that there would be an additional fee.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. By reading through previous reviews we chose to do the no frills tour so knew that entry to Spinalonga was payable on arrival, this option also gave us the freedom to choose where to have lunch in Elounda & explore a little. Maria was an excellent tour guide full of knowledge & passion. She used her experience to ensure we got the best possible tour by avoiding other groups so we had space to take photos & ask any questions.

De tour via Tui geboekt echter zonder lunch. Was wel bekend vantevoren echter de andere mensen, welke niet via Tui hadden geboekt hadden wel de lunch. Wat mij betreft biedt tui wel de optie dat je direct kunt boeken met lunch. De gids was erg leuk en goed. Sprak heel goed Nederlands

Our tour guide Veta was very knowledgeable and gave a great commentary on the bus on the way to Elounda of thr local sites. Buying our own tickets at Spinalonga was very straightforward and we were then able to join Veta's tour of the island that was very informative and gave a picture of life on the leper colony in the early 20th century. The boat ride was very good with great facilities and was not crowded taking only 2 coaches so space to move around and enjoy the views. Would recommend.

Przewodnik podawal ciekawe informacje o wyspie w przystepnej formie która pozwala zapamietac przekazywane tresci. Wycieczka po wyspie byla dostosowana do tempa calej grupy, mozna bylo sobie zrobic zdjecie. Na plus sa sluchawki na uszy. Dlugosc wycieczki równiez byla ok. Czulo sie opieke przewodnika w róznych sytuacjach. Wycieczka warta polecenia.

Indrukwekkende tour wat zo recent tot 1957 toen de laaste lepra patiënt van het eiland kwam. Als je daar loopt kan je ,je goed voorstellen hoe het moet zijn geweest,fijne gids die de tijd nam.om uitleg te geven . Zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Ook de plaatsjes Elounda en agio Nicolas prachtig!

Vorweg: der nun beschriebene Fehler lag bei mir, dennoch möchte ich ihn erwähnen. Ich habe die Tour mit der Klausel gebucht: ohne Eintrittsgelder. Dass man für die ganze Insel Eintrittsgeld bezahlen muss, war mir nicht klar. Ich dachte, "ohne Eintrittsgelder" bezöge sich auf einzelne Museen oder Gebäude. Insofern ist das Angebot "ohne Eintrittsgelder" an sich sinnlos, da man ohne Eintrittsgelder absolut nichts sehen kann. Aber, der Fehler lag bei mir, wie auch bei einigen anderen Teilnehmern,.

Die Tour mit Start von Stalis hat ca. 9 Stunden gedauert. Auf Spinalonga waren 2h eingeplant und das reicht auch für eine ausführliche Besichtigung. Die Führung war sehr eindrücklich und spannend. Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert. Wir haben die Tour ohne Mittagessen gebucht, weil uns ein 3-Gangmenu am Mittag zu viel war. In Elounda gibt es auch 2h Aufenthalt. Wer Baden will sollte ein Sandwich mitnehmen damit genügend Zeit bleibt. Ansonsten gibt es jede Menge gemütliche Restaurants.

Insel Spinalonga war sehr Sehenswert. Man hatte keine Zeit sich in Ruhe umzusehen, Führung dauerte lange und man mußte bei der Hälfte dann schauen, dass man zurückkommt. Leider war der ganze Tag sehr getaktet und wenig Freizeit. Busfahrt war das schlimmste, einige saßen 6,5 Stunden im Bus, nur zur Hin und Rückfahrt zum Hotel. Einmal und nicht wieder

We really enjoyed the trip overall and found Spinalonga very interesting in terms of the history of the island. However, we weren’t impressed with the advertisement by TUI of this trip. It wasn’t made obvious that a separate ticket would need to be bought for entrance to Spinalonga. We assumed the ‘no frills’ was due to their being no lunch included. I don’t think this should be sold without admission into the site included within the price. Others were also confused by this.

De rondleiding op spinalonga was heel interessant en we hadden een vriendelijke reisleidster maria. Maar het uurtje in agios nikolaos hoefde voor mij niet **********. Je kunt niet veel zien in 1 uur. En we hadden de pech dat er een israelisch cruiseschip was aangemeerd dus mochten we niet overal lopen.

This was an excellent excursion. Bobi the guide was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. We heard all about the history of Crete on the way to Spinalonga and then a full guided tour of the Island. Getting there first was fantastic and well worth the early start.

This is a good alternative to the other tour. Reviews of the lunch weren't good. We paid the extra for the ticket onto spinalonga and then went and found our own lunch. Popi our guide was very informative. The only downside was waiting for the other coach to arrive before setting off for spinalonga.

As we were staying in Elounda we chose Rep suggested the 1/2 day trip which was perfect. Maria was our guide on Spiralonga and I can’t praise her enough. She made the history of the island come alive with her passion and knowledge.

Firstly I would like to say that our guide was very good indeed and my score is no reflection on her. She was well informed a a great source of knowledge. The trip to spinalonga was way too short in my opinion. This was a place of emotion and suffering and history. 1.5 hours it nowhere near enough time for this trip. The other parts were also not long enough. I would have preferred missing elounda altogether and. Such a shame. The boat trip was very nice.

We enjoyed the trip to Spingalonga, our guide was excellent & very knowledgeable. The journey there however had far too many pick ups which meant almost a 2 hour coach journey each way. That put a negative on the day as most on our coach were retirement age & that is too long to sit still.

Our guide Maria was excellent, very knowledgeable and informative. Spinalonga island amazing to see and fond out more about. Elounda village very pretty, lovely couple of hours there. Agious Nicholas visit we felt unnecessary. And rather annoying that we had to drive back to elounda from agious Nicholas to drop people off on the way home...added more than 30 mins to return trip.

Tour of Spinalonga was very interesting however would have been nice to have longer to wander around by ourselves/use the toilets and cafe. Maria, our guide, was incredible and i can’t compliment her more. The toilets were unfortunately broken (ran out of water) so wasn’t the best! The stop off at Agios Nikolais felt a bit unnecessary and didn’t really seem to tie into the rest of the day so could have done without that for me.

We opted out of lunch and felt there were no further suggestions made unless you were doing full tour, which was unnecessary as so many options in Elounda. Die Reiseleiterin war großartig. Alles super organisiert und erklärt. Wir hatten die Tour ohne Mittagessen und Eintritt auf die Insel gebucht. Um den Eintritt hat sie sich dennoch gekümmert, sodass wir bei der Gruppe bleiben konnten und ihre Führung mitmachen konnten. Es gibt, wenn man was essen möchte, da vor Ort auch genügend Lokalitäten und kann essen was man will… Buchung ohne essen: gibt es ein Essen (Vorspeise, Hauptgang, Nachspeise) für alle. Auch der Busfahrer verdient Respekt!

Guide hat schlechtes bzw deutsch mit starken Akzent und redete sehr monoton und wiederholte sich ständig war sehr schnell nervig . Die Aufenthaltszeiten sollte man überdenken zu langer Aufenthalt im Dorf wo man nicht viel anstellen konnte. Letztendlich ein wunderschöner Ausflug sehr lehrreich aber aufgrund des Guides mit Beigeschmack

Tour endergelijke top! Echter geboekt met een Nederlandse gids, maar die was er niet. Was in het Engels, voor mij geen probleem verder, maar als je aanbied en mensen laat boeken met Nederlands sprekende gids, moet je dat ook waar maken!

Die Reiseleiterin war sehr kompetent und freundlich. Die Klimaanlage des Reisebusses war faktisch funktionsuntüchtig und die Busscheiben waren schmutzig. Das Mikrofon der Reiseleiterin war nicht windgeschützt. Folglich knallte der Wind ins Mikro und der Knall wurde unmittelbar auf die Empfangsgeräte der Teilnehmer übertragen. Das war höchst unangenehm und sorgte dafür, dass die Reiseleiterin oft schwer und manchmal gar nicht mehr verstanden wurde.

Unsere Reiseführerin hat den Ausflug sehr informativ und interessant gestaltet, eine absolute 10 von 10! Ein wenig mehr Zeit zum eigenen Erkunden und Anschauen wäre noch schöner gewesen.

Haben die Tour vorab online gebucht, es wäre kein TUI-Mitarbeiter mehr vor Ort… Da unser Urlaub ein „All inclusive“ Paket ist, diese Tour aber offen sichtlich nicht, gab’s für uns 5 Personen kein Essen. Das war so bei Buchung nicht ersichtlich. Der Rest der Gruppe hatte nicht online gebucht, sondern vor Ort im Hotel. Ein Hinweis im Onlineportal auf KEIN Mittagessen wäre schön oder die Möglichkeit entsprechend mit Mehrkosten für Essen zu sorgen.

Enjoyed the places we visited, disliked being on the coach so long - the endless pick ups and drop offs Our guide was great, the boat was comfortable and not at all overcrowded. No coffee available which was a shame! We got our own lunch, which was great! One downside - I left a towel and cap on the coach - realised immediately the bus doors closed and got straight in touch with tui - the cap has been found but not the towel which is really disappointing. The downside of mass tourism I guess.

The only negative was the time it took waiting for another coach to join us on the boat. Our guide (Melani?) was excellent and hilarious. Please let her know. Her English was perfect and she was kind and warm. Lunch was very good also. We weren’t expecting a stop at Agios Nikolaos and to be honest I don’t think it added much to the day, though it was very pretty - we were all quite tired and thought we were headed home for the day. A lovely day out, though, thank you!

The tour guide was amazing! We were told it would be 40 minutes by coach then 20 mins by ferry to Spinalonga then the same back. It took over 2 hours to get to the ferry and almost as long getting back, had we been told this beforehand we wouldn't have booked. In 35 degree heat we would not have wanted to spend almost 4 hours on a coach!

Unsere Gruppe ( 5 Personen) fand diesen Ausflug sehr gut organisiert. Die Informationen über die Insel Spinalonga wurden super erklärt. Leider war der Aufenthalt in Agios Nikolaos zu kurz um dieser wunderschöne Stadt zu erkunden.

Die Reiseleitung war sehr engagiert, die Tour war sehr gut organisiert. Spinalonga war faszinierend. Einziges Manko: Es wurden sehr viele Hotels angefahren, so dass wir am Ende 13 Stunden unterwegs waren.
