What to expect
With a name that translates as Fire Lake, you'd expect Lagoa do Fogo to be all scorched earth and black volcanic rock. Far from it. Think rolling green peaks, sandy shores and seemingly endless cedar wood forest surrounding one of the largest lakes in the Azores. This 11km trail takes you to several scenic spots and ends with a well-earned swim.

De lunch was goed verzorgd (zelfs met een flesje water en sapje) en de gids gaf de opties om de lunch onderweg mee te nemen (dan wel zelf dragen in een rugzak) of achteraf/na de wandeling. De gids vertelde veel onderweg en was flexibel met wensen. We hadden wel gedacht/gehoopt ook wat rond het meer te wandelen en uit te komen bij het strand bij het meer. Dit was echter niet het geval, maar de route naar het meer was wel mooi en het meer zelf ook. Veel soorten vogels gezien.
