What to expect
Venture to West Africa, right in the heart of Strasbourg. There's a historic 1878 water tower, now serving as a portal to another continent. Located close to the Strasbourg train station, the Château Vodou whisks you off on an unexpected adventure. Nestled within this extraordinary location and operated by a non-profit organisation, this one-of-a-kind private museum boasts the world's most extensive collection of West African Vodou artefacts. You'll discover a fresh perspective of the world. Far removed from stereotypes, you'll uncover Vodou in its authentic form: a multifaceted religion and life philosophy rooted in the ancient Kingdom of Dahomey. This spiritual system covers a broad spectrum of practices and beliefs that punctuate life's significant events: births, unions, bereavements and healing. Its purpose is to sustain harmony between the tangible, earthly world and the unseen realm of deities and ancestors through Fa divination, ceremonies and sacred items. Here, each object narrates a tale, and every piece testifies to a living tradition from Benin, Togo, Nigeria or Ghana. You'll encounter Hébiéso (god of thunder), Mami Wata (goddess of the ocean), Aguin (spirit of the bush), along with all the other figures of the Vodou pantheon.
