What to expect
Admiring any UNESCO World Heritage Site is a treat. But seeing two in one day is positively spoiling yourself. This history-rich tour takes in two of Sri Lanka's standout sites – the Lion Rock of Sigiriya and the Dambulla Cave Temple. Tharindu, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Sigiriya is a fascinating time capsule of a place. It was once home to King Kasyapa who built a royal citadel and palace complex on top of the rocky outcrop.'First up is the Lion Rock of Sigiriya – Asia's answer to Machu Picchu. Rising 200 metres above the jungle, it boasts ancient frescoes, terraced gardens and stunning views. Climb the stairs cut directly into the rock and pass through the impressive lion-shaped gateway to explore the ruins of a 5th century royal palace. Tharindu adds, 'The panoramic views from this 200-metre-high rock fortress are nothing short of spectacular, and make the walk up worthwhile.'After lunch, we'll continue to the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple. Created inside five caverns, this Buddhist cave temple is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists and a major cultural landmark in Sri Lanka. Adorned with ancient murals depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha, Jataka tales, and various deities, you'll get a close-up look at the artistic traditions of ancient Sri Lanka. As well as frescoes, the caves contain more than 100 statues of Buddha including a vast 14-metre-long reclining Buddha – there is an abundance of beauty here and it makes a serene end to your trip.

Stor oplevelse både tempel og løveklippe. Husk MASSER af vand til løbeklippen, og pas på aberne, de kan gå i din taske. Der er frokost inkluderet i turen, obs dette gælder kun mad, ikke drikkevarer dertil Guiden var sød og rar, kørte lidt vildt. Vil rigtig gerne køre dig hen til vennerne hvor du bliver vist ting, og hvor det også forventes at du giver lidt penge.

Der Transporter hat sehr wenig Beinfreiheit, was ich so noch nie hatte. Zum Glück waren wir nur zu 5. Auf der Tour und ich konnte mich mit meinen 1.78m ausstrecken sonst wäre die 4 Stunden Fahrt hin und nochmal zurück sehr unangenehm geworden. Es war auch ein wesentlich älterer Gast dabei der nicht viel von dem Erlebnis hatte. Der Aufstieg ist selbst für sportliche eine Herausforderung.Der Guide sollte auch mehr darauf achten, dass die Leute genug Wasser mitnehmen. Ansonsten sehenswert aber teur

Man muss wissen, dass die Busfahrt sehr lange dauert. Man braucht festes Schuhwerk, denn der Aufstieg auf den Felsen ist recht beschwerlich zumal es meistens warm ist und die Wege/Stufen etwas uneben sind. Der Guide hat alles toll erklärt. Auch die Tempelbesichtigung war sehr beeindruckend. Ein erlebnisreicher und sehr beeindruckender Ausflug.

A great tour. Guide and driver very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a very long day, tiring and hot, but worth it. One tip would be to keep socks on for the Dambulla Temples as the stone courtyard is very hot underfoot. Also take plenty of water for Sigiriya Rock as it’s easy to dehydrate. Would recommend as a must see experience.

De afstand was ver. De chauffeur was s morgens niet goed uitgeslapen waardoor hij bijna in slaap viel en moest aan de kant van de weg gaan staan om zich met een fles water wakker te krijgen. De chauffeur en gids konden bijna geen Engels. De chauffeur heeft een boete gekregen van de politie onderweg tijdens de heenrit.

Le + : superbe découverte pour le rocher du Lion. L'ascension de ce rocher laisse place à une vision panoramique sublime une fois arrivé en haut. Les singes sont présents partout sur le site. Très belle découverte également pour le temple de Dambulla: magnifique et empreint de sérénité. Guide au top. Le - : énormément de monde au Rocher du Lion rendant l'ascension un peu compliquée

Vi troede vi havde bestilt en tur hos TUI, med TUI guide, bus og samling af TUI gæster m.m. og var meget overrasket over at en lokal guide / chauffør hentede os og det kun var ham vi var sammen med hele dagen. Det kunne man godt have oplyst noget mere tydeligt, så tror jeg måske vi bare havde bestilt turen hos de guider der var ved vores hotel og strand. Men ok dag, men godt nok langt at køre 2* 3,5 time og vi var lidt nervøse ved om chaufføren kunne holde så lang tid og koncentrere sig hele dag

The excursion itself was very good and the driver/guide really helpful and friendly. The pick up point was not correct and we were asked to leave the hotel as we were not guests there,@ 4am this was not safe for 2 women alone. The driver did not turn up and when calling the Rep was advised it was not his problem!
