What to expect
The desolate beauty of inland Sal is in stark contrast to the white sands of its coast. On this off-road safari, you'll explore Murdeira Bay, the Buracona lagoon, the ocean-like sands of Terra Boa and Pedra de Lume. Beyond the most popular sights, you'll also get a glimpse of local life in Palmeira and Espargos. Rodrigo, one of our expert local guides, says, "I've lived on Sal all my life, and I'm still fascinated by my island's colourful street art. It's a vivid reflection of our culture and our daily lives."Starting with a pit stop at Murdeira Bay, you'll trundle off in a closed 4x4 – we're the only ones using covered off-roaders – to the fishing village of Palmeira on the west coast. Its palm tree-lined streets are dotted with mural-painted cafés and tiny shops. Rodrigo says, "Palmeira's kaleidoscopic – and cluttered – souvenir shops are an attraction in themselves." Then it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for how it shimmers when hit by sunlight.Next, you'll witness the ocean-like sands and mirage of Terra Boa. An optical phenomenon, in which hot rays of light reflect distant objects and the sky, creates the illusion of a desert lake. Back on the road, there's a pit stop at a viewpoint, where you can enjoy an elevated panorama of Espargos, the island's capital. Wind down with a natural spa treatment in the Dead Sea-like lagoon of Pedra de Lume. Floating in one of the world's saltiest waters and inside an extinct volcano crater is a buoyant way to end the tour. What is the itinerary for this experience? This experience is available as a morning or afternoon tour, so the itinerary timings change depending on which one you pick. Morning option:- 8:00am – pick-up from your hotel- 8:15am – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 8:30am to 8:45am – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 9:15am to 9:30pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 10:10am to 10:20am – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 10:20am to 10:35am – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 10:35am to 11:15am – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 11:20am to 12:00pm – transfer back to your hotel----------Afternoon option:- 1:30pm – pick up from your hotel- 1:45pm – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 2:00pm to 2:15pm – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 2:45pm to 3:00pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 3:40pm to 3:50pm – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 3:50pm to 4:05pm – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 4:05pm to 4:45pm – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 4:45pm to 5:30pm – transfer back to your hotel

The only negative point was that we were too early for the Blue Eye. If we’d gone for the mirage prior, we may have been at the Blue Eye at the more ideal time of 11:00a.m. As it was, we saw just a sliver of blue

The guide was lovely but kept wandering off, chatting to locals rather than focus on guests. Would have been nice to have some free time in the first town we went. But he gave a lot of info about the history of Cape Verde. We got to the blue eye to be told it better to see around 11am so why take us there at 10 when nothing showing but a hole.

The tour itself was very informative about the island and people the most unpleasant of the tour was the transport the seats was very uncomfortable and not a lot of leg room getting in and out of the vehicle was very difficult there was no hand rails to aid getting in and out the step to help you in and out was very small as you was getting in it's very easy to bang your head in my opinion the vehicle should be redesigned for safety and comfort maybe make it a higher top to make more room for co

Onze gids was een erg leuke dame die met heel veel humor alles goed vertelde en een liedje zong bij de titanic brug bij the blue eye Ook had ze goed oog voor de kinderen en voor mij persoonlijk met de terugroute die te voet te heftig was ze hield meteen busje aan naar boven en zorgde dat ik mee kon.

The trip was great and it was nice to see some of the island that is off the beaten track! Our driver was Daniel and he was providing information as we drove. Our tour guide Lucy was fantastic and really brought some humour to the trip. The 4 hour tour felt a little rushed at times, but there was a lot to cram in! The salt lake visit at the end is well worth it (guests need to be advised about towels etc, as most didn't have them). All in all a fantastic experience.

Tour felt very rushed didnt spend very long at all at each location before being herded back into the jeeps. Would be nice to give the opportunity to put money into local pockets by perhaps having time to explore shops and resturants as there was no refreshments available or provided. Even bottles of water would have been nice as there was no refreshment stops.

Clovis our guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions throughout the tour. Every stop we were given time to take photos and look around by ourselves. We didn't see the blue eye but we cant blame anyone for that as it is dependant on the height of the sun in the sky! Really lovely places we visited and nice to learn and see more of the island. Definitely would recommend 🙂

Het vissersdorpje en het blauwe oog zijn behoorlijk overgewaardeerd. Die vielen wat tegen. Gelukkig maakte de fata morgana in de woestijn en het zwemmen in het zoute water in de krater het helemaal goed.

It was a great trip, Lucy was really knowledgeable but under a lot of pressure to speak several languages! She did a great job!! Lucy got us to the front of the queue really quickly to see the ‘eyee’ Danny was a great driver - felt safe despite the lack of roads!!

I liked how knowledgable and entertaining the guide. Big shout out to Stef. What a great guide. Such a nice guy. Very funny and always making sure everyone is good. I enjoyed all parts of the tour. The only thing I didn’t like was the amount of driving on the off road in the desert. Apart from that the trip is definitely worth doing.

Guide Tour was excellent, Stefan was very knowledgeable. Trip was very long, sitting in a 4x4 in the dessert, visited a black hole as it wasn't blue and then went to see a mirage to take a photo. Finished off floating in dirty salty water for 20 minutes, to then drive back to hotel. Wasn't told about the extras that needed paying for, showers, transport to mines, food and refreshments.

Wszystko jak najbardziej ok. Pani Kasia super. Kierowca super. Słabo rozwiązana kolejka w oczekiwaniu na błękitne oko ;) Ale to wina lokalnych nie Państwa. Dla rodziny z dziećmi 10 min dłużej w słonej kąpieli było by super choć Pani Kasia nie poganiała i czekała na nas :)

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Well worth the money, our guide Luccy was very nice and friendly, we didn't see the blue eye as we went in the afternoon but were sent pictures by Luccy. Would recommend.

This was a fantastic trip with so much packed in to one morning. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and made the visit to each place tea interesting. We had a little bit of time at each place to explore by ourselves which was lovely. The icing on the cake was floating in the salt lake. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it.

Dane was brilliant, picked us up on time at hotel. He was pointing things out to us as he drove and was very polite and friendly. Lucy was very knowledgeable and friendly, having a bit of cheeky but respectful banter with the group. I would definitely recommend this experience but there is a lot of walking involved so not so great for those with mobility issues

The tour guide Stefan was fantastic his English was very good he was funny and charming and very knowledgeable 10 out of 10 and the driver I think he was called Marcio was very good also. They were both very polite and professional. It would have been nice to have a bit longer at maybe the blue eye just to have a drink and chill out by the time we queued and looked in the shop it was time to go back in the truck but overall a very enjoyable morning out thanks to Stefan.

They did the best with what they have, but there isn't much to see. The Blue Eye is only visible when the sun is directly overhead, no way we'd have seen it on either the morning or afternoon tour and TUI should make this more clear. That being said, the coastline here was stunning. The first place we visited was a bit pointless, not much to see just a little bay. The highlight for us was swimming in the salt pool, this was a lovely experience. Our guide was funny and informative.

Der Ausflug war sehr schön. Die kleine Gruppe im TUI Jeep war toll. Der Fahrer und unsere Reiseleiterin, Bruna, waren sehr sympathisch und lustig. Sie hat uns viele interessante Informationen aus witzig Art mitgeteilt. Der erste Stopp war etwas langweilig, hier sind wir nur kurz ausgestiegen. Hier hätten man vielleicht noch einen schönen Strand, den es dort geben soll anfahren können. Eine kleine Flasche Wasser für jeden wäre toll gewesen, damit man nicht immer selbst so viel mitnehmen muss.
