Founded in 1939, it initially held around 3000 prisoners but expanded over time to detain more than one hundred thousand people from over 25 countries. Many prisoners were subjected to forced labour, inhumane conditions and systematic violence, with thousands losing their lives.During this guided visit, you will explore the preserved grounds of the former camp, including both the old and new sections, the commandant’s villa, gas chambers, crematorium and the memorial dedicated to the victims. Your last stop will be at the monument honouring those who lost their lives, offering a moment for reflection. You will also learn about the events surrounding the camp’s operation and its liberation in nineteen forty‑five, gaining a deeper understanding of this significant historical site. A film about the history of Stutthof may also be shown as part of the experience.
