What to expect
You'll travel through the scenic Neckar Valley in a small group and discover historic towns, castle ruins and panoramic viewpoints.The day begins with a van journey from Heidelberg to Neckargemünd. As you explore the old town, you'll wander through narrow alleyways lined with traditional half-timbered houses and learn more about this picturesque corner of the Neckar Valley. You'll also visit the remains of Dilsberg Fortress, where you'll hear the story of a tragic romance that has become part of the castle's folklore.Following the Neckar River, you'll continue to Eberbach. You'll have free time to try the Viktoria-von-Eberbach cake, said to have been enjoyed by Queen Elizabeth, or take a break for lunch on your own.Then it's time to put on your hiking boots. You'll climb the eroded vent of an extinct volcano on the highest mountain in the Odenwald and explore the surrounding landscape with your guide.After a short rest during the drive, you'll head to Hirschhorn Castle, Hesse's southernmost castle. Perched high above the Neckar River, it offers far-reaching views across the valley. From here, you'll descend into the old town of Hirschhorn, one of the region's oldest and most peaceful towns, and enjoy more panoramic views along the way.This full-day experience combines guided sightseeing with a hike to the highest mountain in the Odenwald and visits to places linked to local legends and regional history.
