What to expect
The former Tabacalera building is embarking on a new phase in its cultural history. The Russian Museum Collection program is now joined by the Tabacalera Exhibition Space (MEET), a dedicated exhibition space featuring works and artists from Spain and abroad, which will complement the center's existing offerings.MEET was created with the aim of complementing the Russian Museum Collection.Tabacalera is hosting a major retrospective dedicated to the photographer and photojournalist Marisa Flórez, winner of the National Journalism Award in 1981. Her images form part of the visual memory of Spain's transition to democracy. Moreover, there is the exhibition ‘The Art of Painting in the Age of the Habsburgs’, comprising works by great European masters from the 16th to 18th centuries. The pieces belong to the collection of Professor Alejandro Sanz P. and offer an overview of the pictorial language of a decisive period in art history, marked by the presence of the Habsburg monarchies in Europe. The inaugural exhibitions at MEET complement the exhibitions already on display at the Russian Museum Collection: The exhibition dedicated to the Russian-born ballerina Anna Pavlova, as well as a selection of works from the collection of José María Castañé: ‘Beyond His Time: The Adventure of a Collector’. The space will also continue to explore the field of photography with the retrospective ‘Romantic Realism’ by Madrid-based Belarusian photographer Valery Katsuba.
