Do this because

You'll learn about the Fethiye district on a guided visit to one of Turkey's most scenic areas
There's the ghost town of Kayaköy to explore, which was abandoned a century ago by the Greeks
You'll find an eerily empty basilica with faded frescoes and mosaics painting a picture of the past
The cable car will take you 1,700 meters up Mount Babadağ for impressive views of Fethiye's coast
Your local guide is an expert on the facts and fables of this historic region of Turkey

What to expect

From an abandoned hillside village to the summit of Mount Babadağ, there's a variety of views on this tour. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time exploring Kayaköy, one of the best-preserved ghost villages in Turkey. Elif, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘There are close to one thousand deserted stone houses as well as churches and chapels, even a bakery. At one point there was a plan to convert the whole village into a tourist resort, but thankfully this historic place has been preserved.'We'll start off the tour in Kayaköy, which was abandoned by Greeks fleeing war in the 1920s. Now, their ghosts flit between the empty homes as you wander through silent streets that once rang with voices. Peek into roofless stone dwellings as your guide explains their tiered designs, and discover tiny chapels and a little school. Elif says, ‘The layout of the houses and the way they were lined up was to ensure none blocked another's view.' You'll also see the empty basilica, with its faded frescoes and mosaics. Eerie yet fascinating.Next up, we'll head to the foot of Mount Babadağ to hop on a cable car almost to the top. Enjoy eye-popping panoramic views over Fethiye and the coast below as you glide up to the top station below the summit. If you want to reach the very top, there is a chairlift available. The peak is popular with paragliders, so there's a good chance you'll see them drifting in the skyline. It's a feast for the eyes.

Poor

This excursion was not very interesting at all. The cable car ride was good and the views amazing but once we up there, then we just had to sit and wait for 1.5 hours with the o Lu option to go to the restaurant. The guide have no interesting facts (eg when was it built, why…). Then the guide took us to Kayakoy and spoke to us for 10 minutes with very general information about the Turkish and Greeks. Then walked around the site for 5 minutes, then gave us 1.5 hours to go to the restaurant again.

Absolutely loved it! It was one of the best experiences of my entire life. The views from the top of the mountain were absolutely phenomenal and i took some gorgeous pictures qnd made memories to cherish forever. Food and drink up there was fairly priced, at least from what we saw. Loved it to bits!

Great

We were picked up 25mins late. When we arrived to the cable cars she said to leave at highest point 3:20pm. We left 3:25pm and the cable cars stopped in the air. When we got to the bottom the guide had left us there and we didn’t see the next part of the trip so we had to get a taxi back she also left another family there which was poor. She should allow for the cable cars stopping that was out of our control. Appalled if I knew that I wouldn’t have rushed back to the bottom

We really enjoyed the cable car ride and beautiful views from the mountain. Our guide was polite and knowledgeable The Ghost town part was good but it was extremely hot by the time we got there (40c) and so not comfortable! Aside from the weather it was a really good trip. Maybe an idea to do the trip in the morning or the Ghost town first.

Trip was good but originally booked for Saturday and never received cancellation notification. Email only received when contacted rep about bus not turning up. Cancellations text definitely wasnt received. Wasted a full morning of our holiday as a result. However enjoyed trip when rebooked for Wednesday. Tour guide was really informative and helpful.

Walk around the ghost town was really good - but cable car ride up Babadag was a real let down as only winter station was open & you are forced to into the restaurant as no other viewing area with seating was open. Plus all the toilets at this level were closed

Our guide (Ferit) was fab. He was really knowledgeable and kept us informed with what was happening and when etc. The trip itself was great and the half day was just enough for us with a couple of teenagers in tow. We have visited Kayakoy before but good to see how it has changed. Our highlight was Babadag cable cars. It was really great. Although would have appreciated some info regarding the temp drop at the top prior to trip so we could take jackets.

Great

More time inside Kayakoy village to look around would have been nice…… and less time at the cable car before sunset Maybe a good idea to warn people it’s cold at the top of the cable car…… we saw some silly people in swimwear/ very light clothes looking frozen

Great

We loved the cable car ride and the spectacular views. What we didn’t enjoy was the so called organic farm we were taken to. To us it looked like a run down house where they are waiting for tourists to spend money on things they can’t use on holiday. The worst bit was a small chained up dog with water that was in a algae coloured bowl . We thought being an organic farm they would have care for there livestock with care and compassion. I’d recommend a taxi to the cable car. It’s 170lira a ticket.

Great

Did not appreciate the guide (Rosie I think) shouting and lecturing us in front of a bus full of other people for standing at the front gate - we explained that on the ticket (which I still have) it states to stand at the gate. This did not stop the lecture and she continued to shout and lecture us saying well next time wait at reception because that’s what that means? Sorry but rude and not appreciated when we are paying for a service and doing what we have been told to do on the ticket. Genuinely was mortified and this marred an otherwise fab trip. We were not the only people to get shouted at, there was another couple at our hotel who were treated in the same manner.
