What to expect
This fun-filled tour gives you the chance to delve into some of Boa Vista's top spots. Spend a morning exploring inland villages and roaming the Viana desert in a 4x4, before ending up on one of the island's most pretty beaches. Roberto, one of our local guides, says, ‘It probably wasn't their intention but the souvenir shops of Povoação Velha and Rabil have become unwitting social media stars. Their colourful, kitsch and carefree displays are massive Instagram hits.'This morning-long adventure kicks off with a visit to Rabil – Boa Vista's second-largest town. From its vibrant streets to traditional architecture, the town reflects the island's tough yet resilient spirit. Here, you'll visit a ceramic factory, where you'll see the handiwork of local artisans and might be able to grab yourself a souvenir of local pottery. You'll also get to taste Cape Verde's national dish, catchupa, a rich stew of corn, beans, pork and vegetables – through ingredients change, not just from island to island or village to village, but house to house.Next, hold on tight as you zoom through the dusty landscape of the Viana desert. Our next stop is Povoação Velha, the oldest settlement on the island. Wander its rustic streets before kicking back on the 11km-long Santa Monica beach. Its sugar-white sand contrasts against fluorescent blue waters like an image from a postcard. If you're an adventure seeker, you can even try your hand at sandboarding.

Es war wie eine Butterfahrt, man wurde an Orte gekarrt und dann allein gelassen - es wurde 2-3 Sätze gesagt, und vor Ort waren viele Verkäufer die ihre Sachen loswerden wollen und einem ständig verfolgen. Nicht schön. Vielleicht war der Guide neu, aber die Tour war eine Katastrophe.

Die Rundfahrt ist für einen ersten Eindruck von der Insel ganz OK. Es gibt aber Verbesserungspotenzial: - der Imbiss beim Abstecher in die Wüste ist so zeitig, dass man so kurz nach dem Frühstück im Hotel nicht wirklich ********** auf Essen hat (schade!) - Die Aufenthalte in Rabil und dem Dorf waren nicht informativ. Man hatte ca. 20 Minuten Freizeit und konnte in ein Souvenirgeschäft gehen. Viel besser wäre jeweils ein gemeinsamer Spaziergang durch den Ort mit Informationen über Land und Leute

De gids was heel aardig en vertelde ons veel over het eiland en hoe het leven is op Boa Vista. Maar wat wij gezien hebben vonden we een beetje teleurstellend… we hadden gehoopt om iets meer van de Vianen woestijn met de 4x4 maar dat zat er niet in. De Santa Monica beach was zeker mooi maar dat is te kort om te gaan zwemmen. De rest vonden wij niet bijzonder!

Man kam sich vor wie im Kindergarten. Man hat wenig über Land und Leute erfahren, Man wurde von einem Souvenir Shop zum nächsten gefahren oder von einer Bar zur nächsten. Ein Dünenrutschen braucht es auch nicht, schöner wäre es gewesen etwas mehr über die Sanddünen zu erfahren.

It was nice to get out of the hotel, but the trip is rather overpriced. Guides and drivers are polite and caring, but it would be nice to find out more about the island through this experience. When trying food, it would be good to find out how it is made/ ingredients... In the pottery stop, the kitten and music outside was drawing tourist more than actually the place itself. Nice stop at St Monica bay, but rather rushed, similar with the stop on dunes.

Personalen var jättetrevliga och det var intressant att få höra om Boavistas historia. För mycket tid går ut på att transporteras mellan ställena. Det enda som var roligt var sandboarding. Men där var det säljare som var mycket påträngande. Sa att vi inte fick gå upp tillbaka på höjden. Jag trodde det var av säkerhetsskäl men det var att tvinga en att köpa. Ville ha 5000 escudos för en magnet. Blev sur och arrogant. En annan man tog kort på alla personer som var med i bilarna utan att fråga.

J'ai été très déçu par ce qui nous a été proposé dans cette excursion. Le désert est à peine ébauché, on ne se rend pas du tout compte de ce que c'est, la collation était par contre correcte. Le plus ancien village n'a aucun intérêt à mon sens comme la ville que nous avons parcourue, la poterie est intéressante par les pièces mais pas par l'apport culturel Enfin la plage de santa moniqua vendue comme la plus belle du monde me parait bien moins belle que celle devant le Riu Hotel

Einzig die Wüste Viana hat uns nicht gefallen. Das Allrad Fahrzeug fuhr knapp 100 Meter durch den Sand, dann wurde geparkt. Zügig ging es dann nochmal weniger als 100 Meter zum ersten Sanddünenhang und alle Teilnehmer durften dann ca. 20 Meter auf einem Board den Hang hinunter rutschen. Dann gab es im nahegelegenen Restaurant schnell etwas zu Essen. Ca. 70 Minuten nach dem Frühstück im Hotel hatten wir noch keinen Hunger. Gerne hätte ich mehr von der Wüste gesehen und das Essen am Ende der Tour

De excursie was saai en niet een echt hoogtepunt. Weinig gehoord over het eiland en de gids was weinig enthousiast en gedreven. De chauffeur was behulpzaam en kon goed rijden. De excursie is niet aanbevelingswaardig. Het strand was wel erg mooi, maar de bediening probeerde 2x de drankjes te laten betalen. Een keer contant en een keer via pin. Kortom niet echt goed

Guide was very enthusiastic and kept us entertained throughout the morning. Sand boarding was fun, but no pressure if it’s not for you. The Santa Monica beach was gorgeous. Unfortunately the only bar was closed for cleaning, so there was nowhere to have a sit and drink.

Unfortunately neither myself or my husband enjoyed this “experience”. As a couple in our 70s we were squashed very uncomfortably into the back of a Land Rover with another (lovely) couple. We were taken for mile after mile along very rough stony tracks, bouncing around, often quite painfully. We realise why a 4x4 vehicle is necessary. However, if the rep had explained exactly how much of the trip was along stony tracks we wouldn’t have booked. Not an experience we would recommend.

Excursion à Boa Vista avec TUI plutôt décevante. Au désert de Viana, peu d’explications et un accompagnement limité du guide : surtout luge sur sable et dégustation de cachupa dès 8h30. Passage très rapide dans un village. La plage de Santa Monica est superbe mais éloignée. Ensemble trop centré sur le divertissement, pas assez sur la découverte.

Langweilige Auswahl von "Attraktivitäten". Sandsurfen OK, aber da gibt es mit Sicherheit viel bessere Orte. Nur um den Verkauf von Hibiskusblüten zu ermöglichen und einen Snack zu reichen, muss man diesen ungeeigneten Ort nicht verwenden. Es gibt so viele tolle Sanddünen, die man mit Allrad auch ganz spektakulär erreichen könnte. Töpferei und alter Ort...kann man vorbeifahren. Strand "Santa Monica" sehr gut gewählt. Tour hat mich insgesamt gelangweilt; gut, dass es nur die Halbtages-Tour war

Der gebuchte Ausflug war sehr schön, interessant, abwechslungsreich und preislich fair. Leider wird im Hotel kein Deutsch zur Begrüssung etc verwandt. Alles nur in Englisch und Französisch... aber keine einzige Showbegrüssung in deutscher Sprache. Schade! Das sollte geändert werden. VG Sebastian

Via een eerste stop in de Viana woestijn met sandboarden en een lokale degustatie , werd in Rabil een keramiekfabriekje bezocht waar je een souveniertje op de kop kon tikken. Nadien het dorpje Povoação Velha , de oudste nederzetting op het eiland bezocht. Als afsluiter kunnen genieten van het prachtige parelwitte strand van Santa Monica. Graag ook dankjewel aan de gids en de steengoede chauffeur.

Spent time in oldest place in Boa Vista which was a complete waste of time and only had 30 minutes in one of the best beaches in the world. I complained to reps as I was fobbed as we would spend more time on this beautiful beach but they said it was only the full day 4x4 tour which was wrong as a couple we saw there was told as well to stay on the beach as least an hour. We feel robbed for the price we payed for a lie as well as the most uncomfortable ride we have ever experienced.

Service 1a,Hotel super,Essen sehr gut,Sauberkeit sehr gut. Ausflüge sind noch ausbaufähig,entsprachen nicht unseren Vorstellungen.. Nächstes Mal würden wir darauf achten,eine Terrasse mit Sonne zu bekommen,Terrasse lag im Schatten. Der Hinflug,wir hatten Plätze mit mehr Beinfreiheit bezahlt,davon war nichts zu spüren. Hingegen der Rückflug,super,genauso haben wir es uns vorgestellt.

Wir haben es eher als Verkaufsveranstaltung empfunden. An jeder Haltestelle waren Souveniershops oder Verkäufer. Der Guide hat ähnliche Dinge erzählt wie auf der Ganztagestour. Z.B. das genau dieser Fahrer der beste der Insel ist. Wir waren enttäuscht und würden diese Tour nicht wiederholen. Wir hätten auch mehr Hintergrund Informationen gewünscht. Sorry aber das war besonderes.

There were only 4 adults on this morning trip so it was all very personal, from being collected at the hotel both the driver and our guide were charming and very anxious to please. The first stop for the sand boarding was fun, and the little restaurant and snack was enjoyable. The stop at the pottery in Rabil would not have been as meaningful with the guide who explained its history. Then the drive to Santa Monica beach was interesting!

First stop desert experience was 50 metres into a sand dune not truly entering a desert to experience the vast openness etc. Second stop at a pottery was one man engraving a flat piece of clay and a gift shop. Third shop at "oldest village on the island" featured building appearing to date from the 1960s. Last stop at (most beautiful) beach was sand with rough scrub and an uncompleted hotel development behind. Truly underwhelming and a waste of a morning.

Rien d'exceptionnel pour cette excursion d'une demi-journée dans un 4x4 inconfortable où il est impossible de se tenir correctement. 8 personnes sur des banquettes qui se font face et empêchent de voir correctement le paysage. La descente de la dune sur une planche est trop courte et les vendeurs d'objets africains trop collants. L'en-cas servi au restaurant n'a rien d'extraordinaire. Visite à la poterie trop rapide et peu instructive. Point positif : la plage de Santa Monica sur un temps court

The car was modified from the trade car to carry goods to a passenger car. One safety measures was forgotten to put handles for passengers. It's easy to install inside the cabin, so passengers are not falling onto each other with any stops during the drive. Those handles are easy to install inside to the ceiling of the car. Apart from this small but rather annoying defect the whole experience was fine.

Silvesterparty im Hotel Riu Karamboa kann leider mit anderen Hotels nicht mithalten. Allerdings ist das Dinner am Silvesterabend ausgezeichnet.

Deze excursie was prima, maar wel de enige die is doorgegaan van de drie geboekte excursies. Daarom een dikke onvoldoende voor Tui excursies. De tweede excursie werd geannuleerd en de voorgestelde andere datum last-minute ook. De derde excursie werd überhaupt niet geannuleerd maar daarvoor stonden we vergeefs te wachten op een excursie die helemaal niet door bleek te gaan.. Ik ben heel benieuwd naar met welke oplossing Tui komt om dit recht te zetten want dit echt naar

Es war alles interessant, jedoch der Badeaufenthalt in Santa Monica zu kurz. Der Ausflug war wirklich schön, jedoch die ständige Aufforderung sich mit Geld zu bedanken hat einen bitteren Beigeschmack. ..........Dem Fahrer, dem Guide, den Boys usw. ........... irgendwie ist es auch nicht angebracht.

Het geheel stelt niet veel voor. Je zit met veel personen in een 4x4. Het crossen door de "woestijn" betreft een ritje van een paar meter naar een restaurant en de plaats van het sandboarden. In de dorpjes zijn alleen verkopers actief. Het strand is mooi en groot. Maar verder is daar niet veel te doen. Kortom: niet echt bijzonder.

A tour of the island is pointless as there is basically nothing to see and everytime we did stop we were bothered by hawkers who were very persistent and made for a very uncomfortable experience

A great idea but all the lovely things to do ( beaches and views) around us WHY take us to villagers to be harassed by the locals, our group find this very stressful and glad to be back at hotel. Think this needs re thinking someone needs to jump in a landrover and have a think

sandboarding en lunch? stelde niets voor Pottenbakkerij was een lachertje Dorpje met enkel lokale leurders die je lastigvallen Kortom veel geschraap om toch iets bij elkazr te knutselen om voor excursie te kunnen doorgaan

De gids sprak onverstaanbaar snel. Het leek meer op een rondje langs toeristenwinkeltjes.. eerste activiteit was op een sandboard naar beneden glijden . Ik was liever even die woestijn ingegaan. Meteen daarna iets eten ( terwijl iedereen net ontbeten had ; was overigens niet te eten . We bezochten een pottenbakkerij.. was ook een souvenirswinkeltje. Tot slot naar st monica beach. Daar kon je dan 50 minuten rond lopen . Het enige positieve was de chauffeur die me vertelde over het eiland. George
