What to expect
Would you like to discover the wildlife that occupies the sea around Reykjavik? If so, then, this is the tour for you! You'll spend three hours at sea with an expert crew and specially trained naturalists as you search for whales, dolphins and other wildlife. Minke and humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises are some of the most frequently seen species and if you're lucky, you might even see killer whales, fin whales and sei whales. They're easiest to spot in the summer which gives us the chance to see them in their natural habitat while they're feeding near the shore but research shows that more and more are staying in the area all year round. One of the other highlights of this tour is the opportunity to see the incredible landscapes and views of the bay. It'll make your experience even more special!

What to remember
This is a wildlife excursion and as such sightings can never be guaranteed or predicted but in case that no whales or dolphins are encountered, you'll receive a complimentary ticket so you can participate in another tour (within 2 years) free-of-charge
Routes and itineraries may be altered by sailing from other harbours which could result in a slightly longer tour
Tours may be cancelled on short notice due to weather or conditions at sea
Onboard, you can borrow blankets and overalls for the duration of the tour
A pick-up service is available from selected locations for a fee, please contact your tour provider for more details

Meeting point:
Please go to the ticket office at the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavik where you can exchange your voucher for admission tickets and then you can meet the crew at the Visitor Centre a few steps down the pier.

Easy to find, well presented, good sized boat with cafe and bar. Plenty of time in the bay and saw several whales. Guide was informative, experienced, and clearly dedicated to whale preservation. A little disgusted that the harbour berths the two resident whale hunting ships rights next to the whale watching tours!

The trip was very good. We got to see both humpback and Minke whales plus puffins and other seabirds which is what we were hoping for. The boat was nice and spacious so we got a good view of the whales. The weather was also good with a calm sea so no sea sickness!

We were lucky to see many breaching humpback whales as well as minkes dolphins and porpoises . Guide helpful and knowledgeable. We were obviously aware that there would be no guarantee to have any sightings but we were very fortunate to see so much on a gloriously sunny day .

Amazing trip, the kids really enjoyed it. The staff were nice and friendly. We managed to see minkies, dolphins and humpback whales. Definitely recommend.

The trip was great, well organised and the staff on board were helpful and pleasant, as most Icelanders! Unfortunately I didn't see any whales but we can't control the ocean so that's outside of the organisers control. You see amazing landscape and glaciers!

A must do if visiting Iceland. We were lucky enough to see two hump back whales (Banana and Radar). Amazing experience from start to finish, staff were really helpful and friendly and our whale spotter was brilliant! So much information given about them too! Highly recommend!

Amazing experience, the guide was on the microphone explaining how to spot whales, and to shout whereabouts if you saw any using clock references, eg 12 o clock, 2 o clock etc. Was brilliant being able to see them so close to the boat!

We booked this with a company called Elding. They were very informative and intersting. We were lucky to see 3 whales and didn't have to go far to see them. I felt very safe and we could buy refreshments on board. Very nice crew.

Very informative. Did the experience twice cause we loved it so much. Enjoyed seeing the whales and seabirds. But obviously you may see nothing and no two days are the same. Not very choppy but had sea sickness Medication anyway. Free medicine on board as well.

Arranged hotel pick up direct with Elding Whale Watching Company by email. Within minutes we were entertained by one of the regular humpback whales currently residing near the harbour. All info given in English including fabulous info about the 3 young resident whales residing near the harbour and how they have changed over the last few months. We saw a grey seal in the distance on a rock and lots of birds on the water. Have some amazing photos and lovely memories, thanks to Elding

Wow what can i say, this trip was worth every penny, amazing staff, friendly and full of information. Kept us up to date with sightings, we saw 3 whales and seals. They also sent us their photos of the trip, which was a great help. Will definitely be booking again when i return to iceland

Excellent service, safety and educational afternoon. The guide was very informative and the captain maintained his distance and cut engines to prevent noise pollution . We enjoyed this trip immensely and felt emotional when learning how a growing shipping industry is increasing noise pollution with detrimental effects to our ocean life .

The trip was a described, the use of the protective clothing is a good, bit of a scramble to find an outfit that fits. Cafeteria/bar on board service is good, the guide is knowledge and was able to spot the whales quickly. Need to wrap up warm due to the good wind. Would go again.

Highlight of our trip to Iceland. Knowledgeable friendly team on board, lots of space & clothing provided if required. We saw humpback whales numerous times as well as seals. Wrap up warm though it gets very cold. Purchased hot drinks on board which were reasonably priced. The company also sends you their photos from the day taken by their on board photographer free of charge. I feel privileged to see these amazing mammals in their natural habit

Very friendly staff, good commentary and lots of knowledge. Lots of room to move around on the boat both inside and out. Was a bit confusing locating the ticket office from the map and we went to the wrong one first but once we spotted it everything was easy from there. We were lucky enough to sport several Orcas on our trip! Views from the boat are stunning too. Would def recommend.

Enjoyed the holiday, it was a bucket list trip. To get to our hotel we had a 10 minute walk with cases, in an unfamiliar city, and it was dark. Could have transferred us in smaller buses so we could have been dropped off nearer the hotel. Luckily a few us at the same hotel, so found it ok. Also had the 10 minute walk at the end of our holiday to catch the transfer to the airport. Hotel was nice, food good. Could have done with a high floor as Fri and Sat nights were noisy as near a taxi rank.

Absolutely amazing, I throughly recommend this experience. When I saw the whale it was breathtaking, words can not express how cathartic the experience was. Sea was a little rough, but it was January. Drinks and snack available on board. There was a marine biologist who was the guide she was insightful and knowledgeable

Obviously with being in a natural habitat you can not be guaranteed to see anything but as there were a few boats out the captains communicated sightings. We were very humbled to come across 2 humpback whales ?? very inquisitive some amazing photos too.
