As the spiritual heart of Catalonia, Montserrat is one of Europe's top pilgrimage sites. This famous Benedictine abbey occupies a striking location at the foot of towering rock formations in the Montserrat mountain range near Barcelona, Spain. You'll have the chance to visit the Vestry and see the statue of La Moreneta. Hugo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Thought to have been carved in Jerusalem in the early years of Christianity, the famous ‘Moreneta' or Black Madonna is a sacred wooden statue of the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus. The Black Madonna is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain.'Firstly, a train will take you more than 700 metres up to Spain's largest Benedictine monastery. You'll enjoy exclusive access to the beautifully decorated vestry and skip the line to see the statue of La Moreneta. The monastery complex consists of several buildings, including the basilica, the sacristy, the choir stalls, the library, and the museum. The basilica was built in the 19th century and it's a prime example of neo-Gothic architecture. The monastery is also served by a renowned boys' choir, the Escolania de Montserrat, which dates back to the 14th century, making it one of the oldest in Europe.As you look around, you can sample the herb liqueur made by the monks and watch the brand new, interactive audio-visual presentation on Montserrat's history. And don't miss the chance to buy tickets for the funicular to the summit – the views of the Llobregat valley from the top are phenomenal.

The trip was perfect and with all the included extras definitely value for money. The coach pick up was on time and prompt the driver was happy and helpful. The TUI representative and guide, Tracey was extremely knowledgeable and a again very helpful. Montserrat it's self is a fantastic place so calm and peaceful and with the tour of the basilica beautiful - brought a tear to the eye

It was great that tui offered excursions to places that would otherwise be difficult to travel to but it was very poorly executed. THe tui guide talked at us for 30 mins on the bus about what we were going to see then left us when we arrived, would have been much better to give us the information when we are looking at the things she’s talking about ie rock formations, basilica Tui guide kept repeating the same points, we ended up following a different tour guide who was alot more knowledgable

Our guide Teresa was brilliant. The information she gave us was great. Invited us to ask questions was. patient and king giving us information of where to meet.where was good to eat and she made it fun as well. Couldn't fault Teresa in any way Excellent guide. Nothing negative to say. Thank you

Negative: Guide had incredible knowledge but it was too much to take in. A leaflet to read after maybe would be good. Felt overwhelmed by info. Lots of pick ups. Thought we were never going to leave Salou. Positives: On time pick up. Assuming views and great organisation.

Our tour guide Micheal was absolutely fantastic, friendly, witty couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. Very informative not only about our Montserrat tour but also about the Catalan region and history. Antonio safely drove us and couldn’t have felt more secure considering the height of the mountain. Overall tour definitely one for the memories a A star tour.

Really enjoyed the views. Didn't like the food options there. It was the same options in all locations there. I am gluten free so nothing for me there. That was the only disappointing thing about the trip. Mike is an excellent tour guide. One of the best I have ever come across & so easy to listen to. A lovely easyvti listen to voice.He's a gem in your company to be sure. Felt very safe on the roads with the bus driver Antonio too.Excellent driver.

Michael and Antonio the driver were excellent. Having the Monseratt guide take us in to Sacristies and crypt was excellent. She was very knowledgeable. Being able to go straight to viewing of Madonna was brilliant too.

we thoroughly enjoyed our day .The last time we went with tui we had time to get to the post office to sent a card , you just don't seem to have a enough time to see everything .We got picked up at 8-45 so by the time you pick up every one else it's seems to to take a will to get there otherwise its a great day out

Our guide, Theresa , was amazing. Informative, funny and looked after us very well. The trip was fantastic, very interesting. Unfortunately, we went to the wrong hotel for pick up. There are two hotels in close proximity with almost identical names. We didn’t realise this and went to the wrong one. This maybe could be noted on the pick up instructions.

We were lefby Teresa. She was very competent, super friendly and herEnglish was quite fluent. At Montserrat there was enough time to be onyour own. Although there were many visitors it was not crowded. The organisation was perfect, everyone acted as there were asked to, and Teresa ' sense of humour made this trip marvelous.

An absolutely stunning place...Our guide, Michael, was excellent. He was very personable, approachable, informative and helpful. We really enjoyed the day, and with Michael as our guide, we felt confident and assured that if we had any problems, we could approach him. Thankfully the day was perfect. The views are amazing and the architecture is breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this trip for all ages.

The guide wasn't good she didn't make sure everyone could hear what she was saying we were at the back the only thing we all heard was what time to be on the coach, ,only when we returned to the coach did we realise the tickets she gave us were for the tasting had no idea about this ,the scenery and basilica were fantastic but not impressed with Tracy

Guide very informative and helpful. Very good command of the English language . She was able to explain everything in an interesting manner. The bus trip was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. Enjoyed the whole experience, but if we had known once we got off the funicular railway we would have a walk along the cliff to Saint Joan, we would not have gone on the funicular. Please let other visitors be aware of that.

Excellent day on the whole. Very interesting. The place was amazing. Thought we got a lot included for the price. Only niggle would be that we were first pick up, and by the time the last people were collected, we'd already been on the bus for an hour. This made for nearly 5 hours on the bus in total with the return journey. Maybes needs to be mentioned at the time of booking, so expectations can be managed.

We loved this excursion. Very well organised. Our rep Teresa is an exceptional guide. She has so much knowledge. The only thing we didn't get told was the funicular ride to the very top was an extra £16 each. Teresa took payment on coach in cash only. I did voice my concerns about not being told about this and she did say we could pay by card at ticket office when we got there. The whole day was thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.

If you have difficulty with steps it might restrict what you can do but overall it was a fantastic trip and day out. both guides were very knowledgable and a lovely driver. Theresa, our tui guide was professional, entertaining, kind, funny, informative and highly motivated. An incredible trip with impeccable service from driver and guide. Our guide made sure we knew everything we needed, even when temp handing us over to monetary staff for the tour. The scenery here is magical, plenty of places to sit and explore. The little market was wonderful too. Loved we got to go up on train and drive down so we saw the whole mountain more or less too. Absolutely recommend!

Our party of 6 enjoyed absolutely everything about the trip, don't think there's any improvement needed. The driver Harry made you feel safe when he was driving & Mike the tour guide made it an enjoyable & informative trip. A special mention must be made about Mike who looked after our Mum when she became unwell during the trip due to the heat.
