This full-day tour to the northern part of Cyprus takes you to three of the territory's most intriguing spots. You'll discover the ancient city of Salamis, the old town of Famagusta and the ‘ghost town' of Varosha. Elpida, one of our local guides, says "northern Cyprus is a place frozen in time. We can even pinpoint the date – 1974. And the result is an Instagrammable potpourri of unfinished hotels, half-ruined churches and skinny minarets."Your journey into the past starts all the way back in classical times at Salamis. You'll explore its ruined temples, the partially restored theatre and more. Stavroula, another of our local guides, says "not only is Salamis steeped in ancient myth, but Saint Barnabas, who brought Christianity to Cyprus in the first century, is buried in a nearby monastery."After free time for lunch, you'll visit Famagusta, whose old town is still protected by intact defensive walls built by the Venetians centuries ago. Your guide will show you sights such as the castle and the Gothic cathedral-turned-mosque. Elpida says "in front of the main entrance is a fig tree that was planted by the Crusaders who built the cathedral – so it's the oldest living thing in Famagusta. To round off the visit, there's a walking tour in the ‘ghost town' of Varosha. This once-popular beach resort lay abandoned for more than 50 years. It's a surreal experience to walk on overgrown streets of crumbling facades with rusted shutters and broken windows.

Just so you know, because of local restrictions at Strovillia checkpoint, only passport holders from EU member states, the UK, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland can travel to and from the northern part of Cyprus
You'll need your passport/ID card to cross the checkpoint into the northern part of Cyprus

Please note, single parent families or those travelling without both parents need to provide extra documentation for anyone under the age of 18 when travelling into the northern part of Cyprus. This includes a 'letter of authorisation' from the missing parent, as well as supporting documents including birth certificate of the child, passport copy of the missing parent or a copy of a court order. Templates of these letters are readily available on search engines however we recommend you consult a lawyer prior to travelling on holiday

This was a fantastic day out. Chris was so knowledgeable and interesting he did an amazing job with some very difficult customers. He sorted out a situation for us which we were very grateful for. Not a lot of space in the seats. Felt crammed and uncomfortable. AC was good and driver was very good Plenty of stops for the loo which was great. Loved this trip and would highly recommend

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip for the day. We got picked up on time at the bus stop right opposite our hotel which was convenient. Our driver was friendly and welcoming. Our guide Andri was so knowledgeable and gave us so much information on our day out. Throughout the day Andri guided us round and gave us so much information about each destination and made sure we were all safe. It is definitely worth it. Although it is a long day you will experience something completely different.

An amazing day out a very long day especially in the heat but this tour was brilliant firstly the hotel rep was great helping us choose the right tour for us. Then the driver and the tour guide who met us outside the hotel was so friendly Andra the tour guide was so informative on the full tour explaining the history of the ruins we visited and then the ghost town she made sure she knew where we was at each stop making us feel reassured throughout , the information this lady remembers wow!

The tour was too long, 12 hours instead of 8. The guide while knowledgeable was a bit long winded. The tour of the ruins at Salamis was. Too long in the heat of the day, in fact it could have been missed out. The tour of Varosha was excellent which is what people came for .

Lange dag op de bus maar zeker de moeite waard. Hartelijke ontvangst door sympathieke gidse Andri. Vertelt hele dag (in 't Engels) door over wat er te zien/te bezoeken is met als rode draad de geschiedenis/invasie/onafhankelijkheid van Cyprus en dit op neutrale wijze. Tóp excursie ??

To be totally honest Chris our tour guide was amazing, very knowledgeable about this great island but this was a very long day and was not our cup of tea so to speak. When we went over the Turkish boarder we and others did not feel comfortable, it had a strange vibe that I cannot explain. The only time our Turkish guide smiled was when we got back and she said goodbye. The ghost town was not what I expected and reflecting back I’m not sure what it was I was expecting to see.

We felt that the 3 visits in one day was a lot especially in the hot weather. The guide was fabulous and very informative but we'd have preferred the Varosche visit earlier in the day as we were knackered by this point and couldn't enjoy it the same.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Guide was knowledgable and friendly. The only gripe I have is the timings on trip - plenty of time for Salamis, too long in Famagusta but certainly not enough time to explore Varosha. The final destination was rushed.

I think maybe the rep could have warned us just how long we were going to be on the coach as the tour says 4-8 hours but we were on the coach for approximately 12 hours. Which was ok but it would have been nice to have known this . I know it depends solely on where your hotel is but a heads up would have been great . The rep was great and very knowledgeable.

Really enjoyed every element of the trip but the journey was made longer by so many pick ups. Maybe Pathos bus and a limosol bus would better. Still a good day apart from the very political guide who told us several times that Turkey stole their land and should give it back. Once was enough! Ghost town of Vorosha is simply not a ghost town anymore, due to the number of tourists there. Over all a good day but charging more and including lunch might have improved it slightly.

1). Tui rep nagged us about passports continually then let some one on the bus with the wrong documents anyways. Costing us 1 1/2 hours delay. And reduced time in stops. 2). Guide was informative but lacked social skills. Driver was very friendly. 3). Enjoyed all the places we visited guides historical knowledge was excellent. 4). Overall was enjoyable value for money. If only the Tui rep had been as particular with everyone’s paperwork it would have made a better and less anxious experience.

Sælger og guide fortalte os at man godt kunne komme over grænsen med dansk ID som opholdstilladelse. Efter 2 timers køretur, da vi stod ved grænsen fik vi at vide at vi ikke kunne komme ind. Den sure guide var så "venlig" og gav os to muligheder. Enten at tage en taxa hjem på egen regning (200 euro) eller vente ved grænsen i 38 grader i 6 timer.

The tour was very interesting and guide Andrea was very informative and knowledgeable. The only downside was that due to low numbers the coach was cancelled and we were transported to Hotel Atlantica Bay to join tour which was okay, however we had to make our own way back to our hotel Atlantica Oasis. I feel we should have had transport organised to take us back.

After reading other reviews I nearly did not bother going but I am so glad I did. The tour was very interesting and informative. I was collected at Atlantica Bay hotel and we did stop for half an hour after just 20 minutes because those collected from Pathos had been on the bus for 2 hours. Salamis was very interesting. Then on to Farmagusta Old Town, again interesting and we were given 90 minutes free time for a walk round and lunch which was plenty of time. Varosha was the best bit.

We enjoyed the trip, but there are caveats. 1. The ticket clearly said it was an 8 hour tour- but it took 12 hours. 2. There was a lot of walking in high heat, often on uneven ground. We anticipated this but i feel it could be pointed out to older clients (like us) who could find it just too much. We spent the last sighteeing opportunity on the bus as it was too hot for us to walk into the abandoned city. We felt ill, and the bus driver turned of the air con for part of the time.

We found the visit to Salamis too long, it was very hot and we stood around for AGES in the blazing sun, most people on the coach felt the same. Famagusta town we had nearly 2 hrs to look round and get lunch, not much to see and too hot to walk around. Varosha was so very interesting also very sad. Most people on the coach only wanted to go there but had to do the whole trip to go there like us. It was a 12 hr day 6 on a coach 6 walking in the blazing sun was just too much.

It was nice to see the history and sites of the Island, however, our guide who was very knowledgeable took too long at the sites going over the same things which meant there was very little free time to look around at leisure and some sites had to be skipped quickly because the trip ended up running late. Making people stand in the sun at 36 degrees was not ideal.

The Guide(Chris) was excellent, gave a good history of Cyprus and key points of interest Salamis and Famagusta. The coach driver (Andreas) excellent, safe and reliable. Due to multiple pick-ups in Paphos and Limassol, it was a 12hr day- 6hrs of which were travelling, which was far too much. The sites of interest were visited in the heat of the day, which was challenging. The sites visited were interesting, but more time needed. In short- less pick-ups and more time at the sites needed.

It was a 12 hour trip, a bit tiring, we knew it would be long, way over the 8 hrs advertised. Guide very knowledgeable but went on in too much detail over historical dates, could have truncated it. North Cyprus guide didn't really exist, probably a political sop. Salamis brilliant, not enough time. We're dumped in Famagusta old town for 2hrs and n guide, not good on a backing hot day. Coastal deserted Famagusta was eye opening and a star event. But overall good value

Could have done with more time in Salamis, sea wall and mosque, the castle was shut. The ghost town was the ghost town. The pickup from hotel was a little disjointed- 1 to take us to another hotel to then change to another coach, and the way back was a little disjointed..

The person who sold this gave a glowing report, but the travelling was the worst part of this experience. Most of the day was spent travelling to destinations that were disappointing. We were given time to explore the docks area of Famagusta, not the best introduction to any city. However, the worst part was the travelling.

The whole trip was absolutely brilliant, crucial even, to better understanding the islands current situation. Our guide Andre was outstanding. Even though she kept her political views to herself, It was so important to hear her personal experiences of the evacuation. Her historical knowledge of Cyprus in general was amazing too. Such an interesting experience, would highly recommend. Nice coaches & coach drivers are excellent too.

The guide, Nick, was friendly and showed us everything, including where to go in the old city of Famagusta. It was a unique experience to have a guided bus tour of ancient Salamis and Famagusta. The trip to Varosha was depressing and unnecessary. I hope Tui will continue to offer such guided tours to North Cyprus - why are they stopping on 1 September 2024?

The time spent on the Ghost town was definitely not long enough. 45mins when that is the reason people pay to go to that attraction. To say tui are not doing the trip is very sad. It should of been a few hours there was so much that we missed it was disappointing. I wouldn't of wasted my money for 45mins. Would not recommend it

Gids Antri vertelde zeer enthousiast over geschiedenis van Cyprus, de verdeling van noord en zuid, wat dit gedaan heeft met het verjaagd deel van de bevolking. Wandelingen erg interessant en heel erg warm/heet met weinig schaduw. Zelf voldoende water mee brengen en goede schoenen is geadviseerd, petje of paraplu voor schaduw Lange busreis heen, met stops voor bezichtigingen, lange busreis terug met 1 toiletstop. Zou 8 uur duren, 12 uur weggeweest. Spookstad is erg indrukwekkend om door te lopen.

Excellent tour guide, he had such a wealth of knowledge about Cyprus. The whole tour was full of history, culture and gave us a greater understanding of how Cyprus came to be divided and kept us interested all day. Longer in Varosha would have been welcomed and the coffee stop on the way home was not needed but overall a fabulous, informative day.

There was an accident by elderly gentleman. Which delayed us but that wasn’t a problem. It was we lost our guide to the ghost town . It was only when we came out of there we seen I could have hired a buggy as I was struggling walking and with the heat . The guide would have explained that to us . But unfortunately Chris didn’t . I didn’t see it all my husband went and took lots of photos.

Ruins were quite poor after 20 minutes there was nothing mte to see. Salamis was waste of time not enough time there. The ghost town again not enough time.

There could be potential issues crossing the border for certain groups of people - we were not advised of this BEFORE paying for the trip, in the end this didn't affect us but nonetheless we should have been warned in advance. The trip itself was well organised, ran smoothly throughout the day, the guide and driver were both excellent. Unable to sit all 4 of us together on the coach as it was full, bit of a shame. Overall I think it was quite an expensive trip but glad we had the experience.

Difficult to leave a true review as we weren’t picked up for our paid excursion to famagusta and vroshi ghost town. We waited outside our hotel and went back inside to double check details with rep. She then called someone who advised her that they had changed our pick up location and nobody had told us. Unsure why this happened and no reason given. We asked if we could get a taxi ( our cost) to get to first site Salamis approx 50 minutes away. The rep called again to enquire and was told no.

The ruins were excellent. Disappointed not to be able to go deeper into Veroshi. Did not help that we had to pick passengers up from Limmasol as made journey too long. Did not need stop o return journey.

We loved everything about this trip. We were so lucky to have Andrie as our tour guide for a second consecutive time. We knew we wouldn’t have any complaints because Andrie is the most knowledgeable tour guide and we would like to thank her for a great excursion.

En virkelig fin tur med mange spændende historiske oplevelser. Guiden var virkelig god og fortalte hele Cyperns historie undervejs. Der var opmærksomhed omkring varmen her i juli, så der var pauser i skygge eller i AC i bussen. Både Salamis, Famagusta og Varosha var meget spændende og Varosha særligt tankevækkende. Moderne og flot bus med AC. Dygtig og venlig chauffør. Guiden out standing. Absolut vores bedste anbefalinger og good value for money.

Het was een top dag! Gids was heel enthousiast en gaf onwijs veel informatie. De dag was goed opgebouwd met steeds na maximaal een uurtje een korte pauze en even de benen strekken. Het was een lange dag, maar we hebben ons prima vermaatk!

Die Ausführungen des Reiseleiters waren sehr ausführlich und interessant. Auf Fragen konnte er jederzeit antworten. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und würden die Tour jederzeit weiterempfehlen. Die Fahrt war letztlich mit 11h länger, als angegeben. Dies sollte eventuell angepasst werden.
