Ancient Greek myths come to life during this River Acheron valley tour. You'll journey to the beautiful fishing village of Ammoudia for a cruise up this legendary river – known as the Styx in classical times – and on to village of Gliki and the famous Acheron springs.The Acheron was known to the ancients as the Styx, and it was one of the five rivers of the underworld. It was into its waters that the infant Achilles was dipped by the heel and thus became one of the immortals. Fringed by trees and ranging in colour from emerald green to tropical turquoise, the river flows into the amazing Ammoudia Bay.Here, you'll board a riverboat for a cruise, following a route taken by mythical heroes such as Hercules and Ulysses. We then head inland to the village of Glyki for a traditional Greek lunch at a riverside tavern. In the afternoon, a guided ramble takes you to the Acheron Springs.

The day trip was fantastic. I really enjoyed the river trip and learning so much about Greek mythology. The TUI rep was extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area and so friendly. The river walk was awesome and cold, but very refreshing in the heat 🥵. I would definitely recommend this trip and would definitely do it again. The stop for lunch was also very enjoyable, right at the side of the river. The food was so good 😋. Great value for the money.

Wat een prachtige excursie! Onze Engelse gids, Kirsty, was een hele enthousiaste dame en wist enorm veel te vertellen. Ze was begaan met alle gasten en wist er echt een prachtige dag van te maken. Ook de gids op de rivier boot was top! En wat een natuurschoon hebben we gezien. Een absolute aanrader!!

I enjoyed the trip from start to finish. Both our guide, Kirstie, and our driver, Andreus, were excellent. Kirstie was friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about both the ancient and modern history of the region Epirus. Information about the nature reserve given by our batman was fascinating and we felt we were in safe hands with our driver, Andreus. The trip was very well planned from start to finish, with a lovely meal by the riverside, followed by a walk in the cooling Acheron River.

Amazing day. We did not intend to book this excursion however after speaking to our TUI rep Kathryn who highly recommended the trip we had the most amazing memorable time ever. Kirsty was an amazing guide and so knowledgeable.

Fantastic day and Kirstie the guide was brilliant. The river trip was lovely and very informative as was the visitor centre. Lunch by the river was a lovely setting and the food tasty. My feedback would be that the difficulty of the river walk and potential dangers need to be a little more signposted . We had a rockfall quite close to us and the swim through the rapid section needs to carry a health warning as someone in our group got into difficulties and had to be rescued .

Brilliant day, the guide Kirsty was fantastic very knowledgeable about all aspects of the trip giving an insight into the history of Parga and surrounding area whilst travelling to and from the river. The boat ride was great looking at nature as we sailed. The Gorge was spectacular, the water cool and inviting, not too busy lots of opportunity for amazing photos.The lunch by the river was very good also. The coach driver Dimiti excellent. I would highly recommended this trip.

Recommended to us by our amazing rep Kathryn. Absolutely brilliant experience and so so informative. Learned lots! Kirsty the guide was excellent, can't rate her high enough. Driver Nicos friendly and safe. Lunch fab. Nothing to dislike - apart from a slight tumble on the rocky riverbed. Sea shoes a must.

This trip was so lovely, our guide Kirstie was excellent so knowledgeable, saw lots of wildlife, beautiful bright green, blue and red dragonflies, the caves to Hades underworld were impressive. It would have been nice to spend a bit more time in ammoudia to explore looks lovely. The river walk was lovely icy cold at the start you definitely need water shoes s can get slippy on rocks, and a waterproof case for your phone, lunch is lovely traditional greek, there is little gift shops so bring cash

Van begin tot eind was dit een zeer leuke ervaring. Ook voor diegenen voor wie Engels niet de eerste taal is waren de gids en schipper ons insziens goed te volgen. Zij gaven veel informatie over de prachtige omgeving, de natuur en Griekse mythologie, doorspekt met een flinke dosis humor. De wandeling in de Acheron rivier was een prachtige afsluiting voordat de busreis terug begon. Al met al een topervaring, en heel veel complimenten ook voor de gids!

Kirstie our guide was brilliant at telling us all about the different areas as we drove through them. The boatman on Acheron was also very pleasant and informative telling us about flora, fauna and Greek Mythology . Scenery breathtaking, lunch delicious , river and Gorge amazing. Highlight of my our day was seeing the Stork nest and her feeding the babies. A fabulous day out . Well done Tui

Our rep of the day Kirsty was fantastic. She made our day! She had a lovely friendly manner and was very knowledgeable about lots of things re our trip and surrounding area. It was disappointing that due to the rain, the previous day, the river was very cloudy which limited how far we could walk through it cuz we couldn’t see what we were stepping on? The cost of drinks & ice creams at the riverside was ridiculous but this is not TUI’s responsibility. Overall we had a lovely day. Thanks Kirsty ☺

Great tour guide kirsty, told us everything about locations and history and greek myths, and Christos on the boat trip was funny / entertaining and knowledgeable about the wildlife (not alot seen on the river to be honest) and history. The lunch meal by the riverside was great, the river walk was lovely though we were limited to distance we could go due to weather conditions

This trip was amazing value for money. The boat trip was beautiful and we saw turtles and herons along the way. Our boatman was so interesting telling us the stories from Greek myth. At the visitor centre with more information about the local landscape and wildlife then lunch which was very delicious and plentiful. Onto the river walk and you can paddle or wade your way along - just stunning scenery but be prepared for the cold water - I was brave enough for a very quick dip!

Eigenlijk was de hele dag top. Vondt de Boottocht wat kort en op foto momenten had de schipper " haast ". Omgeving was mooi. Lopen door de rivier was leuker dan in eerste instantie gedacht.

We enjoyed two completely different sides to this river. Firstly the estuary which was home to varied wildlife. Then, in the afternoon, we visited the springs and famous gorge, which was as stunning as the photos. Our guide for the day, Natasa (excuse spelling) was excellent.

Enjoyed, the tour guide and bus driver were good. Lunch was nice. Walking the river experience. Not like so much - not told of the length of walk to enter the river, how cold it would be and how rocky the river bed would be to navigate.

The first stop for coffee at hotel was chaotic. Waiters not taking orders efficiently. We thoroughly enjoyed Yanni’s boat trip. Very interesting. The meal at the hotel was excellent. Museum interesting too?? The Gorge walk was also very interesting. Both the guide, and the driver, were first class. Highly recommended

De rivier was leuk, maar ook alleen omdat het koud water is op een warme dag. De lunch was ook lekker. De reisleider deed ook goed haar baan en was gastvrij en enthousiast. Echter vond ik de algemene dagindeling maar niks. Veel te lang en vaak in de bus. De boottocht was niks aan. Te weinig interessante informatie en een volledig fout beeld vooraf van de dagindeling met de beschikbare informatie. Als ik een overzicht van de tijdsplanning had gehad vooraf had ik niet geboekt.

The rep Natasha was brilliant, always making sure we were enjoying the trip. The food was really good and plenty off it. Chicken chips, rice and tzatziki. The river cruise was great and the walk in the river very refreshing. Water shoes are essential to cope with the uneven surface in the river.

Great trip. River cruise guide was brilliant. Good lunch. Atherton Springs was great, lots if shade and only a very small area that you have to swim through. You were swimming against the flow but the return was much easier. Don't take anything with you except a hat and a waterproof holder for your phone to take photos. Wear sunscreen because it's a bit of a walk to the springs.

We vonden de uitleg bij de rondvaart ontzettend leuk. Wat een toegewijde gids hadden we. Het enige wat wellicht beter zou kunnen, is dat bij het lopen naar de Acheron-rivier erop gelet wordt dat de hele groep weet wat de weg is. Nu waren er wat achterblijvers die zelf de weg moesten zoeken. Het was natuurlijk maar één pad, maar in het buitenland wil je niet "verdwalen".

We enjoyed the whole day. Nothing was rushed. The guide Natasha is excellent and also has a great sense of humour! The excursion is very well thought out. You need to take suntan lotion with you for the 40 minute boat ride, which again was lovely with our very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We would highly recommend this full day excursion.

Wij vonden het fijn dat je de tas in de bus kon laten. De rivierwandeling was heel mooi,maar je moet echt goede waterschoenen hebben.ik had goedkope en zou de volgende keer goede gympen aandoen.. De gids Natasha had veel info en had met iedereen een praatje.mooie comfortabele bus en goede chauffeur.boottocht met gids Christos was leuk en grappig.weinig gezien,maar de gids was zo enthousiast bij elk nestje...genoeg stops voor toiletgebruik of drankje..

If you enjoy nature, you’ll like this trip. Boat ride through wetlands we saw kingfishers, herons, egrets. Lunch by river was excellent. The walk in the river is an unforgettable experience. It gets very deep in places ( up to your neck) but you can walk quite a way without having to do that deep bit. Lots of tiny Lang’s Short-tailed Blue butterflies and wild pink Cyclamen flowers on the banks.

Enjoyed - Transfer was timely and guide informative. Boat trip was good with local guide a real character but with excellent local knowledge. Lunch was simple but tasty, chicken, chips and rice with greek salad., vegetarian option was available. The river walk was fun and as challenging as individuals wanted it to be. Didn't like - would be being very picky to find anything, for those more adventurous there might be not enough time to fit in the rafting or kayaking

Not told when booking that trip was not suitable for people with mobility issues. At least 25 walk on rough ground no shade (was told it was in the shade) guide left our group to follow. She said “I need to get the other people to the swim point quickly” we didn’t find the rest of the group and couldn’t go further so turned back. We got left behind in our party, so did not get to experience the river walk. The guide simply walked ahead with the rest of the party and did not wait for us (5). We were tol it was a 15 minute walk by the rep, which turned out to be at least 30 minutes over some rough ground. Even though we are able bodied some of us are a bit slower than others. The lunch was lovely

Het was een heerlijke dag met een goede gids, prachtige omgeving en een lekkere lunch langs het water. De gids vertelde over de geschiedenis en achtergronden van Epirus, leuk om te weten. De Archeon rivier is prachtig! Het er doorheen lopen was verfrissend (het was warm) en leuk om te doen.

Het was een geweldige excursie….alleen jammer dat je met je persoonlijke spullen aan de kant achter moet laten omdat je door het water loopt…en het risico loopt dat het nat wordt.

Cruise and meal were excellent . The walk in the river was absolutely amazing . Thoroughly enjoyed it . Beach shoes definitely recommended. Guide and courier very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Acheron river cruise was excellent, lovely lunch, followed by the river walk. There was nothing that we didn't like!

De excursie was gevarieerd, tijdens de busreis werd er ook veel verteld over de geschiedenis van dit landschap. Daarna met de boot over de rivier waar een enthousiaste schipper mooie verhalen vertelde tijdens de boottocht, toen een heerlijke lunch en daarna nog door de kloof langs het water, echt een aanrader
