This tour to the northern part of Cyprus flits through multiple layers of history – ancient, medieval and the 1970s. The stars of the show are the ruins of the classical city of Salamis and the old town of Famagusta, plus the ‘ghost town' of Varosha. Stavroula, one of our expert local guides, says, "the Famagusta area is rich in treasures from antiquity to the Middle Ages and beyond. According to local lore, people were so wealthy in medieval times that they built 365 churches to praise God each day for their lifestyle of ease and plenty."Your adventure starts in Salamis, a city founded in classical times that served as the capital of Cyprus for over a thousand years. Here, you'll explore the ancient roads and ruined temples that once thronged with people in this busy metropolis. The partially restored amphitheatre is a must-see, providing a glimpse into the past when performances and festivals were held here. Next, you'll head to the 5th century Monastery of St Barnabas, where you'll visit its icon museum with examples dating back to the Byzantine period.Next, there's a short guided walk through the haunting former seaside town of Varosha where time has stood still for decades. This once popular beach resort has lain abandoned for over 50 years. After free time for lunch, you'll explore Famagusta, a city that was once one of the wealthiest in the Mediterranean. Your guide will show you sights such as the Venetian castle and the Gothic cathedral-turned mosque.

Just so you know, because of local restrictions at Strovillia checkpoint, only passport holders from EU member states, the UK, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland can travel to and from the northern part of Cyprus
Please note, single parent families or those travelling without both parents need to provide extra documentation for anyone under the age of 18 when travelling into the north of Cyprus. This includes a 'letter of authorisation' from the missing parent, as well as supporting documents including birth certificate of the child, passport copy of the missing parent or a copy of a court order. Templates of these letters are readily available on search engines however we recommend you consult a lawyer prior to travelling on holiday

Sowohl die Reiseleiterin als auch der Busfahrer waren sehr nett. Die Reiseleiterin ist gerne auf weitere Fragen eingegangen und konnte sie zufrieden stellend beantworten. Da man aber insgesamt nur 6 Stunden im besetzten Gebiet verbringt, sind die Stops relativ kurz gehalten (in Famagusta bleibt aber Zeit etwas zu essen). Trotz der kürze konnte ich aber alles auf meiner Liste abhacken und war am Ende des Tages nicht nur sehr zufrieden sonder überwältigt von den Eindrücken.

Guiden talte godt engelsk og virkede seriøst inde i stoffet. Chaufføren kørte super godt. - Sad meget tæt på sæderne i en helt fyldt bus. Sad bag ved meget parfumeret gæst og fik allergisk hovedpine. Guiden ventede ikke altid med at fortælle til alle var fremme; i det hele taget lidt fortravlet.

Der Ausflug war gut, der Reiseleiter Andreas ist ein sehr kluger Mann, aber seine Aussprache extrem undeutlich und daher sehr schlecht zusammenhängend zu verstehen. Im Bus kommen immer nur Wortfetzen an. Schade er weiß so viel und kann es nicht gut rüberbringen

Olga, the tui rep was absolutely brilliant. She was attentive, knowledgeable and so approachable and engaging with the group. The bus driver, apologies for not remembering his name, was polite helpful and drove very diligently and safely. Both of them together made the trip one of the best, wd as a family have ever experienced.

The day was very informative and the guide and staff were lovely. We just felt that the Famagusta and Varosha part of the day was rushed and a lot of the time spent in Varosha was talking in one spot in 30 degree heat when most could have been said on the bus or as we were walking around. People were becoming frustrated and the guide didn’t seem to notice. She was very passionate about the subject and we loved all the stories but we would have preferred to see more.

Great Day out Famagusta was a great historical site, salamis was a beautiful town with some great history and places to eat. The ghost town was something different to anything I have ever experienced and it is hard to believe that it is still standing after 52 years. The tour guide we had was the icing on the cake with her knowledge and passion. A tour well worth doing

Vi havde en fantastisk kompetent lokal guide (Stafarolla) som fortalte og forklarede på MEGET tydeligt engelsk om det vi så, hun havde også små finurlige input til det sete, og var hurtig til at tænke i ændringer da vejret ændret sig. Det var tydeligt at hun havde erfaring med turen, hvilket gjorde at den viden vi fik blev endnu større omkring det vi så. Vi vil klart anbefale hende og turen til andre

Vi kom først på en forkert bus med tysktalende guide og fik ikke at vide at der kom 2 busser på samme tidspunkt. Dette blev heldigvis ordnet ved den tyrkiske grænse. Der er for mange med på turen ad gangen. Men god guide - dog lidt gebrokken engelsk tale, så en smule svært at gå hele historien med. Men ellers en spændende tur som var pengene værd.

Die Tour war insgesamt ganz gut. Der Guide Andreas hatte ganz viel Wissen zur Geschichte etc. Leider war er teilweise nicht gut zu verstehen. Das Deutsch war schon etwas eingerostet. Aber wir haben viel gesehen. Und einiges war sehr interessant.

There are guides, there are good guides, and then there is Stavrula! So knowledgeable, so friendly, so funny. The tour may break your heart about the total futility of war, but please go and learn about the devastation in the invasion. And ask for Stavrula. You will not be disappointed.

The trip visited four sites and they were all quite close to one another which meant that most of the day was off the bus rather than on which is good. The sites were so interesting because the guide was very informative.and knew her facts. And you get to see the old walled city of Famagusta with its.many beautiful buildings and friendly eating places, plus the ghost resort of Varoshi. A most enjoyable trip and unmissable.

Wat echt veel minder was, is het duits van de gids. We kunnen redelijk duits verstaan maar met een griekse tongval is er bijna niets van te maken, kies de engelse versie. Excursie op zich goed geregeld en indrukwekkend.

Die Begleiterin war einfach hervorragend! So engagiert, kompetent und authentisch. Salamis hätte ein bisschen mehr verdient, dafür Famagusta etwas kürzer. Die Verlängerung um fast zwei Stunden für uns resultierte aus der Grenzkontrolle und dass wir als eine der Ersten abgeholt und wieder zurückgebracht wurden.

The guide, Stavroulara, was excellent. She combined the history of the places visited with personal experiences that gave you a real feeling for the ordinary Cypriots and the changes in their lives following the Turkish invasion of the island. She is very experienced and knowledgeable, and happy to answer all questions.

We left at 0800 and got back to our hotel at 1800 (10 hours) the first 2 hours picking up other guests and arriving at the boarder. The first stop at the ruins was very interesting and our guide excellent. The stop for a lemon drink wasn’t necessary. We then spent 2 hours free time for lunch which was far too long. The highlight of our day was the ghost town but this lasted less than hour before we had to leave. I suggest less free time in a town with few shops and more time in the ghost town.

Stav, our guide for the day was amazing! Very knowledgeable about the area and its history. Even our 9 year old really took in all the information and really enjoyed it too. Great to see the history stages of Cyprus and from a different perspective. We were all well looked after and enjoyed every minute of it. The Ghost town takes you back to where time stood still, chilling and atmospheric, the more you learn about it. This trip is well worth booking. Thank you Stav, you are a star!

Fantastische Tour mit tollem Guide. Olga (Guide) hat alles verständlich erklärt und auch Rückfragen stets beantwortet sowie ggf. etwas wiederholt sollte man etwas nicht verstanden haben. Gute Mischung aus Antike, Mittelalter und Gegenwart. Auch wurde die politische Situation stets richtig beschrieben, der richtige Terminus verwendet und nichts beschönigt oder kleingeredet, da Zypern immerhin noch ein illegal besetztes Land ist. Danke dafür! Lernfaktor und Aha-Effekte waren enorm.

Wie haben den Trip in Englisch gebucht, konnten zwar nicht immer, aber doch gut folgen. Die Reiseleitung war hervorragend, und auch der Busfahrer spitze, der mir im Bus vergessenes Handy noch ins Hotel brachte. Es war ein Supertag. Gost Town ist ein Muss.

Przebieg zgodny z opisem, przewodniczka profesjonalna. Zastrzeżenie do programu: myślę że na zwiedzenie Varosha powinno być przewidziane więcej czasu, z przewodnikiem nie przeszliśmy przez wszystkie dostępne dla zwiedzających miejsca, mógłby być przewidziany dodatkowy czas wolny na zdjęcia.

Tour guide Olga was excellent. Knowledgable and passionate about the culture and history. The trip was really interesting and informative about Cyprus. It was essentially a walking tour but that wasn’t made clear in info. I liked this but I think it was a lot for some guests. What I didn’t like was that Tui told everyone to be at pickup point at the same time 8.45 and be there earlier. We were last pick up and therefore waited 45 minutes! It needs to be nuanced as necessary.

Es war ein sehr schöner Ausflug! Unser Guide Olga hat uns sehr viel über die Geschichte Zyperns erzählt. Es war sehr lehrreich. Sehr gut organisiert, kann ich nur empfehlen!

Veel pratende gids, met veel eigen persoonlijke verhalen en een niet objectief beeld over alles. De ghost town was indrukwekkend, zoveel leed terug te zien. Waarom dan toch een groepsfoto willen maken bij een verlaten school in een gebied waar zoveel leed is geleden en er zoveel mensen nog last van ondervinden. Deze foto wordt tot overmaat ook nog op social media gezet en is up te loaden. Verder had de gids kunnen waarschuwen voor roaming kosten in Turkije. De plaatsen waren mooi
