Wat te verwachten
Wilde schoonheid in overvloed op Mauritius. Maar het kleurrijke zuiden van het eiland spant de kroon. Op deze tocht bekijk je een lijst van must-sees. De vulkaan Trou aux Cerfs, een heilig meer, de zevenkleurige aarde van Chamarel en nog veel meer wachten op je. Zoals Sandya, een van onze lokale gidsen, zegt: "Het zuiden laat zien hoe mijn eiland er 400 jaar geleden uitzag. Ik probeer me voor te stellen hoe onze dieren leefden, zoals de reuzenschildpadden en de uitgestorven dodo, en de nu beschermde weelderige bossen."Je begint bij Trou aux Cerfs, een slapende vulkaan met een 90 meter diepe krater vol dennenbomen. Vervolgens bezoek je Voiliers de l'Océan, waar ambachtslieden met de hand teakhouten modellen van 18e-eeuwse galjoenen maken. Laurna, ook een van onze lokale gidsen, zegt hierover: "Het duurt ongeveer 300 uur om een kleine boot van 70 centimeter te voltooien, terwijl het voor grotere boten ongeveer 1 tot 3 maanden duurt, afhankelijk van de grootte." Bij de wijnmakerij Takamaka proef je lycheewijnen en kom je te weten hoe de afgedankte schillen worden gebruikt. Met dit bezoek steun je de werkgelegenheid van de lokale bevolking in een traditioneel bedrijf.Daarna bezoek je Grand Bassin, een meer dat heilig is voor de Hindoes, en een tempel waar je misschien kunt bidden. Na een rit door het Black River Gorges National Park schuif je aan tafel in een restaurant in Chamarel voor een lunch met producten uit de streek. Highlights in het park zijn de 100 meter hoge Chamarel-watervallen en de zevenkleurige aarde van Chamarel. Deze kale vulkanische duinen zijn omgeven door groen.

Our guide Juliette was brilliant, she was very informative on all the sites we visited on the tour. It covered history and nature. I would advise people not to take fizzy drinks into the nature park as the bags are checked the bags and any food or fizzy drinks will be taken off you. Brilliant tour to appreciate the natural beauty of Mauritius.

Guide had really good knowledge of Mauritius. He was very friendly and helpful. Lunch was very nice. Whilst there was a lot of getting on and off the bus it was a great was to see lots of places. Also the bus driver excellent.

The tour itself is excellent to see so many sites in one day. The timings are clear by the guide and to pack so much in a day is excellent. We enjoyed all the stops especially the ship market and charmel. The tour guide was good but as the only 2 English it did sometimes feel he spoke more to the French. It would have been good to know how much time is on the bus as there was a lot of driving and sitting on the bus.

It was a very long trip, with very short stops at each of the attractions. One or two of the stops could have been missed and more time spent on the latter parts of the trip where there was more to see and savour. Our guide, Natasha, was very good - and incredibly helpful in getting my husband's phone returned to him from the last stop of the day! Very grateful. The driver was very erratic and, in our view, drove too fast. The whole trip was 11 hours long, and a bit of an endurance test!

The whole tour was lovely but I thought that the lunch provided would have included drinks, which we had to pay for extra. We were disappointed that our tour was cancelled the day before we were due to go and was put forward to another date , luckily, the day before we were due to return home. The minibus provided was a little overcrowded but all in all we enjoyed the tour.

The locations were just beautiful, but felt extremely rushed at times. We struggled with the guide going from German to English in what sounded like one seamless sentence, so we found it exhausting to concentrate!! Our guide wasn't very well presented & sniffing all the time. Having said all that, we did enjoy the day overall!!

Staff were really good, kind and knowledgeable though had small language barrier sometimes (though may have been more the on bus equipment). Some aspects were quite mundane (ship shop) while others really interesting and worthwhile (vineyard, restaurant & waterfall). Also quite a while on bus moving from location to location. Would definitely recommend to anybody wanting to see more of the island but definitely more catered for those wanting a slower pace.

The tour stopped off at an expensive souvenir shop, and at a winery which was not advertised, and thus took time out of things we wanted to see. There was also poor organisation as they failed to inform us the bus had issues and were 40 minutes late, meaning we missed out on joining the English speaking part of the tour. Our guide was very accommodating in the circumstances, and we couldn't fault them, but it was not what we wanted.

This was an enjoyable trip and all the locations visited were natural areas of beauty. It would be advisable to explain on this trip that there is no complimentary drinks provided except coffee/tea after the meal. This would inform travellers to be prepared.

A truly memorable day made all the better by Karen and her driver. The knowledge she displays and the skill the driver showed on many occasions was to behold. The mid day meal could not have been better sited, the beauty of Mauritius was there for all to see. The food and service was excellent. The various areas visited were all worthy of note. We found no negative issues during the whole day.

More easy paced than our South Island tour with plenty of time at each attraction. Guide Natasha was engaging and knowledgeable. We learnt additional facts about the island. Bus driver went very fast in the morning, not really necessary. Meal was a curry with no alternative if you could not eat curry. At the last stop for rum tasting the shop staff were very pushy and a bit intrusive

Picked up on time, guide & driver both very friendly and helpful. Only 6 people in group. After a long drive into the mountains, the crater was uninspiring but good views of the island. Next, the model ships were interesting as was the lychee winery with generous samples! The Hindu site at Grand Bassin & the Gorge view point were both amazing, lots of monkeys! Lunch was delicious with water provided. The spectacular waterfall and coloured sands rounded off the day. Good value and recommended.

Started of slowly with a visit to the extinct volcano which was not as spectacular as described improved slightly with the ship workshop and from there lived up to expectations with wine tasting stunning views and a superb lunch location

Great guide who was chatty and knowledgeable, explained all the local history and pointed out useful and interesting sights. Overall a fantastic experience, I would certainly recommend this to anyone interested in getting to know the island in a but more detail.

The tour guide was fantastic. Very knowledgable, very friendly. As was our driver. We had 3 languages on our bus and they were all accommodated for. The chamarel park was great - the 7 coloured earth, waterfall and tortoises were good to see Ship building factory probably least favourite - not really needed , mostly an opportunity to buy something from the shop. Cool to see how they build them but felt like just wanting a sell. Otherwise - awesome trip. Recommend.

South Island tour far better than the north. the rep was very good. but went to a couple of places where we were almost forced to buy something, no need to visitnthese places. the restaurant was one of the best things about the holiday - excellent food and a view to "die for"

Absolutely loved our tour guide ! She was so funny and charming and made us feel at ease the entire time as I’d hoped to feel visiting a part of my heritage, each stop we were well informed and reminded that we weren’t obliged to put our hands in our pockets (although I couldn’t resist bringing a gift back home), would definitely recommend it to others as long as it’s at a more forgiving time of year as we did visit in June during Mauritian ‘winter’ !

This was a fantastic trip and we would highly recommend. You see so much of the island and our tour guide, Belinda, was brilliant. Very kind and informative. We travelled on a mini bus with air con and had regular stops at all of the different sites: Trou aux Cerfs, ship museum, lychee wine tasting, visiting the statues of Shiva and his wife, Grand Bassin where we saw lots of monkeys and got to go inside a temple, Black river gorges viewpoint which is probably the best site I have ever seen, lunch at a beautiful restaurant called La Chamarel. Great good and a fantastic view over the west coast and clam island. Water and coffee included. Then we went into the Geopark where we saw the waterfalls and the seven coloured earth. There were also giant tortoises there. There were lots of opportunities to use toilets and get drinks if needed. After all of these sites we went back on the minibus for the journey back to our hotel. We didn’t have any other drop offs/pick ups at other hotels. There were 7 tourists on our trip.

Enjoyed this trip overall - lots of different components. The volcano was a bit disappointing to start with- just a view stop at what felt like the top of a hill. It wasn’t what we expected. We were taken to a model boat factory shop which seemed very random and just an excuse to sell expensive tourist stuff but we weren’t there for long. The lychee winery was lovely - a stunning place and lovely wine, although wine tasting at 10 am before visiting a Hindi temple and sacred lake felt a bit weird. The statues and sacred lake were lovely and the guide was very knowledgeable. The restaurant in Chamarel for lunch was spectacular- everyone enjoyed the food, drink and view. The final stop was the sands, waterfall and tortoises. All wonderful. Long trip back to the hotel after this (90mins)

A very interesting tour. Excellent and helpful guide and driver. Particularly enjoyed the 7 Coloured Earths and giant tortoises, the model shipbuilding and the viewpoint for the Black River Gorge. The view from the restaurant was spectacular.
