Net als het nabijgelegen Pompeï onderging het oude Herculaneum een soortgelijk lot door de Vesuvius die in 79 na Christus uitbarstte. Gelukkig is het archeologen gelukt om delen van de stad op te graven, en op deze halve dag zie je wat er tot nu toe is gevonden.Herculaneum is op tragische wijze begraven door de lava en as, en gefossiliseerd in de tijd. Een wandeling bij de archeologische site is alsof je in een openlucht geschiedenisboek loopt. Op deze tocht ga je in een ochtend van en naar de site. En je hebt genoeg tijd om de historische overblijfselen te verkennen tijdens de rondwandeling.Je ziet zelfs bewaard gebleven meubels, bovenste houten vloeren van huizen, mozaïeken op de vloer en sculpturen als je een kijkje neemt in de huizen en straten. Geen wonder dat het UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocatie is. Je krijgt een ongeëvenaard inzicht in het leven van de oude Romeinen.

Everything about this excursion was well executed. The tour guide was brilliant and very knowledgeable, giving information all the way to the site of Herculaneum as well as on site. The whisper ear devices were also very good and allowed clear passage of information from the guide.

Our guide, Dana, was excellent. Very knowledgeable and also entertaining. We really enjoyed the tour. However, there is a significant amount of driving before arrival, picking up from numerous hotels on the way. It seemed disproportionate for a half day tour.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We didn't feel rushed and felt we managed to see everything. I would definitely recommend a guided tour otherwise we would have missed lots of detail. Could do with better earpieces but otherwise excellent.

Tour Guide (Dana) was extremely knowledgeable and was constantly talking about the history of the site and was courteous throughout and her English was excellent. The pick-up however, was at least 20 minutes late possibly due to traffic but bearing in mind the area of Sorrento, this should be taken into consideration to allow for delays.

The half day tour to Herculaneum was fantastic! From pick up to the return it all went smoothly and was very well organised. Thank you to the driver Salvatore for navigating tricky routes and heavy traffic, to Dana for her welcome and organisation overall and to Veronica who was the tour guide. Veronica was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the site at Herculaneum and she made the trip very worthwhile. Thank you!

Analisa our tour guide was excellent, she explained everything, made it all very interesting and took us to all the places of special interest. I would thoroughly recommend this excursion and in my opinion Herculaneum was better than Pompeii as it was more preserved and had lots of lovely mosaics

We had to get a taxi to the pick up point and it was quite expensive. The coach turned up 25 minutes early, luckily we had arrived at the pick up point early, what would have happened if we had not been early? The tour was very good and the guide was very informative. Expensive overall.

The guide was excellent and we enjoyed the trip very much. However the bus journey was very long having to pick up passengers from other hotels which were in the opposite direction to our destination. The air conditioning on the bus didn’t seem to work on the return journey leaving everyone feeling very uncomfortable.

Bus was on time which is amazing considering how unpredictable Italian traffic can be. Guide was lovely and knowledgeable. Herculaneum itself is beautiful. Only issue I had was other tourists taking part not listening to and following instructions around being respectful of the site. For example, they didn’t turn their backpacks to the front and kept leaning/sitting/scraping against the walls and fountains etc. the guide should have been stricter about this but possibly was too shy.

The guide Lorenzo was very good and knowledgeable. One thing that would have made it better was more free time at the end of the tour. So a 2 hour tour then an hour's free time. This would give u a chance to maybe see a bit more of Herculaneum, nip into the museum and go to the gift shop etc.

Great and very informative guide . Very knowledgeable of the site. She gave a rest break before the tour started and those who stayed at the meeting point had a goid chat with her . Coach park very close to entrance . Bot to much walking. Busy in places as groups met on the narrow streets and entrances to buildings/rooms. Great experience and so different to Pompeii site.

Herculaneum was brilliant but the "half day" tour ended up being actually only 1 Hour 20 minutes from entering via the footbridge to returning to the exit giving insufficient time to take in all the historic interests. A minimum of 2 hours is needed to see everything properly, not 20 minutes before and after for toilet breaks leaving 1 hour 20 mins only viewing the site. The P.A. system on the coach didn't work properly either and the driver couldn't work out how to set the air conditioning.

This felt so rushed. We broke away from the guide a lot as we were walking past some beautiful locations without going in. We saw so much more on our own. The feeling from most of the group was the same. She had some great facts for us but spoke about herself a lot asking us to guess her age. She wasn’t very engaging, which was a shame as all of the other guides have been great. Overall, more time would be good as if we stuck with the guide, we wouldn’t have seen much at all.

The actual tour of Herculanium was absolutely amazing, it’s an incredible, fascinating place and well worth going to and our tour guide was excellent. Only down side was it was a really long pick up, our hotel was the first pick up and there were loads more pick ups after so the whole process was nearly an hour and a half before we could actually get on the road to Herculanium. Perhaps it would have been better to do it in 2 smaller groups so that didn’t take so long.

We enjoyed the tour and the guide was very good. The only issue was that the meeting point instructions could have been clearer. It says to meet at the info point but there was no info point when we went to look the evening before or on the day. It should say to meet at the meeting point by the sign. It was confusing.

Your guide was more interested in getting the job over with, and zoom around the ruins as quick as she could missing chucks out of the experience. The tour at the pick up point started, but descended into a 2 hour tour by coach of Sorrento because due pick ups from different hotels like was on the way back. The promised time of 45 min was cut short to 10min after a phone call asking where she was from the Pompeii site. Less than 90 minutes on site, not good enough. Big let down.

Overall the experience was good on the way to the site we had an extremely knowledgeable guide by the name on IOnka who was an absolute pleasure to listen too and passionate about her interest overall in this history and facts details etc however we were split into two parties on stringing at the site and we were guided by another guide who we felt not as experienced we felt rushed and had not the knoybase as IOnka I just wish we could have left our group and joined her group would have been bet

Lorenzo our guide was excellent. We were split into 2 groups for the visit which was great to have a small group. Traffic horrendous and took 1 hour to pick up all the tour participants in Sorrento. 4 hour tour took 6 hours because of pick ups & drop offs and traffic

The tour was too full so the tour was split between guide and local guide. We were with the local guide. We left the tour. Heavily accented commentary too hard to understand thro the audio loop. Yabber yabber about football and rock bands all magnified through the audio loop. It ruined a lifelong dream to visit for me to visit. Cancelled the tour to Pompeii & Vesuvius we had also booked. Huge disappointment.

Great driver and guide. The guide was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The information given was just at the right level to appreciate the site. The day was very hot but was tolerable so the tour length was just right. We appreciated the early start to avoid the heat of the day. The last part of the trip was to the ‘beach’ and although we knew what was there perhaps more focus should be given to the respect of that particular area of the site.. Excellent tour.

Our guide Eugene was very good, very informative and interesting to listen to and had an obvious passion for the Herculean area Not so good was the visitors who decided not to listen to our guide and arrived back at 12.30 instead of 12. Which left the rest of the group waiting on a coach in very hot weather. However our guide and driver did move the coach to a shaded area whilst we had to wait

Our guide Fabianna added so much more to this excursion. Herculaneum is a must see visit to gain even more perspective of Roman life than visiting Pompeii alone. Yes it was hot (September) and tiring, but definitely worth the experience. The coaches are comfortable and there are some stunning views. We did this excursion and Pompeii on separate days. It would not have been enjoyable all on one day. You may consider it expensive, but the ongoing conservation is essential for generations to come.

A very informative tour. Our guide was excellent. This is a fascinating place. We went on the first Sunday in the month which meant that the entry fee wasn't applicable and the tour was cheaper than it should have been which was a bonus for us as a family of 5

Tour guide was exceptionally friendly, informative and enthusiastic - a real asset to TUI. Would definitely recommend this tour to family and friends. Our coach driver was very calm and assured despite having to tolerate traffic problems.

De gids Eugenio heeft zijn groep goed begeleid. De uitleg ter plaatse was heel correct en boeiend gebracht. Er waren echter 2 mensen een half uur te laat op het uur van vertrek. Dit was niet de schuld van Eugenio en hij zat hiermee heel erg verveeld. Enkele mensen van onze bus moesten op de site mee met een andere groep, en zij waren te laat terug aan de bus. Ik had zo medelijden met Eugenio… top uitstap, wel duur via Tui als je ziet dat de ingang particulier 16€ kost.

maybe a little more organisation when getting off the coach we were left behind along with others no one had checked we were all together before moving on to the site the tour itself was very good
