Wat te verwachten
Tijdens deze tour door de vallei van de rivier de Acheron komen de oude Griekse mythen tot leven. Je reist naar het prachtige vissersdorp Ammoudia voor een boottocht over deze legendarische rivier – in de klassieke oudheid bekend als de Styx – en verder naar het dorp Gliki en de beroemde bronnen van de Acheron.De Acheron stond bij de Ouden bekend als de Styx en was een van de vijf rivieren van de onderwereld. Het was in deze rivier dat de baby Achilles met zijn hiel werd ondergedompeld en zo een van de onsterfelijken werd. Omzoomd door bomen en met kleuren variërend van smaragdgroen tot tropisch turkoois, mondt de rivier uit in de baai van Ammoudia.Hier stap je aan boord van een rivierboot voor een boottocht, waarbij je de route volgt die mythische helden zoals Hercules en Odysseus hebben afgelegd. Daarna gaan we landinwaarts naar het dorpje Glyki voor een traditionele Griekse lunch in een taverne aan de rivier. In de middag neemt een begeleide wandeling je mee naar de Acheron-bronnen.

This trip was amazing value for money. The boat trip was beautiful and we saw turtles and herons along the way. Our boatman was so interesting telling us the stories from Greek myth. At the visitor centre with more information about the local landscape and wildlife then lunch which was very delicious and plentiful. Onto the river walk and you can paddle or wade your way along - just stunning scenery but be prepared for the cold water - I was brave enough for a very quick dip!

Eigenlijk was de hele dag top. Vondt de Boottocht wat kort en op foto momenten had de schipper " haast ". Omgeving was mooi. Lopen door de rivier was leuker dan in eerste instantie gedacht.

We enjoyed two completely different sides to this river. Firstly the estuary which was home to varied wildlife. Then, in the afternoon, we visited the springs and famous gorge, which was as stunning as the photos. Our guide for the day, Natasa (excuse spelling) was excellent.

Enjoyed, the tour guide and bus driver were good. Lunch was nice. Walking the river experience. Not like so much - not told of the length of walk to enter the river, how cold it would be and how rocky the river bed would be to navigate.

The first stop for coffee at hotel was chaotic. Waiters not taking orders efficiently. We thoroughly enjoyed Yanni’s boat trip. Very interesting. The meal at the hotel was excellent. Museum interesting too?? The Gorge walk was also very interesting. Both the guide, and the driver, were first class. Highly recommended

De rivier was leuk, maar ook alleen omdat het koud water is op een warme dag. De lunch was ook lekker. De reisleider deed ook goed haar baan en was gastvrij en enthousiast. Echter vond ik de algemene dagindeling maar niks. Veel te lang en vaak in de bus. De boottocht was niks aan. Te weinig interessante informatie en een volledig fout beeld vooraf van de dagindeling met de beschikbare informatie. Als ik een overzicht van de tijdsplanning had gehad vooraf had ik niet geboekt.

The rep Natasha was brilliant, always making sure we were enjoying the trip. The food was really good and plenty off it. Chicken chips, rice and tzatziki. The river cruise was great and the walk in the river very refreshing. Water shoes are essential to cope with the uneven surface in the river.

Great trip. River cruise guide was brilliant. Good lunch. Atherton Springs was great, lots if shade and only a very small area that you have to swim through. You were swimming against the flow but the return was much easier. Don't take anything with you except a hat and a waterproof holder for your phone to take photos. Wear sunscreen because it's a bit of a walk to the springs.

We vonden de uitleg bij de rondvaart ontzettend leuk. Wat een toegewijde gids hadden we. Het enige wat wellicht beter zou kunnen, is dat bij het lopen naar de Acheron-rivier erop gelet wordt dat de hele groep weet wat de weg is. Nu waren er wat achterblijvers die zelf de weg moesten zoeken. Het was natuurlijk maar één pad, maar in het buitenland wil je niet "verdwalen".

We enjoyed the whole day. Nothing was rushed. The guide Natasha is excellent and also has a great sense of humour! The excursion is very well thought out. You need to take suntan lotion with you for the 40 minute boat ride, which again was lovely with our very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We would highly recommend this full day excursion.

Wij vonden het fijn dat je de tas in de bus kon laten. De rivierwandeling was heel mooi,maar je moet echt goede waterschoenen hebben.ik had goedkope en zou de volgende keer goede gympen aandoen.. De gids Natasha had veel info en had met iedereen een praatje.mooie comfortabele bus en goede chauffeur.boottocht met gids Christos was leuk en grappig.weinig gezien,maar de gids was zo enthousiast bij elk nestje...genoeg stops voor toiletgebruik of drankje..

If you enjoy nature, you’ll like this trip. Boat ride through wetlands we saw kingfishers, herons, egrets. Lunch by river was excellent. The walk in the river is an unforgettable experience. It gets very deep in places ( up to your neck) but you can walk quite a way without having to do that deep bit. Lots of tiny Lang’s Short-tailed Blue butterflies and wild pink Cyclamen flowers on the banks.

Enjoyed - Transfer was timely and guide informative. Boat trip was good with local guide a real character but with excellent local knowledge. Lunch was simple but tasty, chicken, chips and rice with greek salad., vegetarian option was available. The river walk was fun and as challenging as individuals wanted it to be. Didn't like - would be being very picky to find anything, for those more adventurous there might be not enough time to fit in the rafting or kayaking

Not told when booking that trip was not suitable for people with mobility issues. At least 25 walk on rough ground no shade (was told it was in the shade) guide left our group to follow. She said “I need to get the other people to the swim point quickly” we didn’t find the rest of the group and couldn’t go further so turned back. Guide caught up with us on our way back but it was too late We decided to cancel Vikos Gorge trip after this bu 2 of us didn’t ask until morning of the day before

We got left behind in our party, so did not get to experience the river walk. The guide simply walked ahead with the rest of the party and did not wait for us (5). We were tol it was a 15 minute walk by the rep, which turned out to be at least 30 minutes over some rough ground. Even though we are able bodied some of us are a bit slower than others. The lunch was lovely

Het was een heerlijke dag met een goede gids, prachtige omgeving en een lekkere lunch langs het water. De gids vertelde over de geschiedenis en achtergronden van Epirus, leuk om te weten. De Archeon rivier is prachtig! Het er doorheen lopen was verfrissend (het was warm) en leuk om te doen.

De excursie was gevarieerd, tijdens de busreis werd er ook veel verteld over de geschiedenis van dit landschap. Wonderful day, really lovely relaxing boat trip along the river trying to spot kingfishers and beavers and at the end of the trip we went from the mouth of the river to see a quick glimpse of the caves including some really exciting high waves. Due to walking difficulties, we didnt attempt the walk through the gorge, but it was just as pleasant relaxing and paddling by the river with a glass of wine.

Tony our guide was incredible. One of the best across the many many years of travelling we've done. The boat trip along the river Acheron was a great experience, and our absolute highlight ...the cool crisp waters along the river gorge walk. One not to be missed. Wonderful lunch inuded. We stopped at a visitor centre and told we could not use the toilets until we had had our talk. There was no running water in the sinks or any soap provided, that meant that all of us were contaminated with each other's e coli bacteria. That increased the chance of us all developing a stomach bug due to poor hygiene conditions. I would have thought with so many people coming from so many different hotels hygiene would be a priority.

Tony de gids was erg goed, maar jammer is dat er niet even gewacht werd op achterblijvers voordat het verhaal werd verteld. Verder kon je hem alles vragen, was heel duidelijk met info waar je moest verzamelen en hoe laat. Het boottochtje mag wel geruild worden met een stukje raften verderop de rivier. Dat hoeft niet wild te zijn voor ouderen De wandeling door de rivier door de kloof was magisch! Tip, koop voor de excursie een waterdichte case voor je mobiel. En (water)schoenen met dikke zolen

Found this trip one of the best I’ve been on. The actual River/gorge is stunningly beautiful just wished we could have stayed at the site a little bit longer might have had time to go on the zip wire. Food what was served by the river was delicious too.Found the visit to the wetlands and the boat trip great. Information on the flora and forna. Really enjoyed this trip. 10 till 5 was a perfect time to spend out on a trip. Definitely need water shoes and a waterproof case for phones.Don’t drop in

River cruise, lunch and walking Acheron River all excellent. 30 min stop after cruise too long and time at info centre too long. Both could be reduced by half

Shorten the river cruise, and allow longer for the river walk. I was surprised to find the river so refreshing, once I'd plucked up the courage to put my head under the water!

Knowledgeable staff. Visitor centre not very interesting as it was very small and the member of staff gave minimal information. The free booklet had all the information needed. Lunch was excellent- just too much to eat! The walk in the Acheron river was great, led by our guide Tony. Truly memorable. A great day out overall.

The river walk was amazing and we were supported all the way along. The visitors centre didn’t add anything to the experience and was quite boring and difficult to hear the speaker

One of the best trips we’ve been on. The boat trip was magical, lots of history and wildlife (we even saw a beaver climbing out onto the riverbank and a turtle sunbathing). Loved the solitude when the engine was turned off. Lunch by the river was really tasty and lots of it. Then the river walk was amazing. Overall, a fantastic experience.

We really enjoyed the walk in the river and finding the springs feeding it. The boat trip was relaxing even if we didn’t see too much wildlife. Our guide spoke really good English and was very clear with his instructions and guidance. Our lunch of roast chicken, chips, Greek salad and tzatziki, by the river was excellent. There were also vegetarian and vegan options offered, which we didn’t sample. Transport was on a very comfortable bus. A great trip!
