Op deze tour naar het noordelijke deel van Cyprus ontdek je meerdere lagen van de geschiedenis - de oudheid, de middeleeuwen en de jaren zeventig. De sterren van vandaag zijn de ruïnes van het antieke Salamis en het oude centrum van Famagusta, plus de 'spookstad' Varosha. Stavroula, een van onze deskundige lokale gidsen, zegt: "Het gebied rond Famagusta is rijk aan schatten uit de oudheid, de middeleeuwen en daarna. Volgens de lokale overlevering waren de mensen in de middeleeuwen zo rijk dat ze 365 kerken bouwden om elke dag God te bedanken voor hun comfortabele leven en overvloed.”Je avontuur begint in Salamis, een stad die in de klassieke oudheid werd gesticht en meer dan duizend jaar de hoofdstad van Cyprus was. Je wandelt over de oude wegen langs de ruïnes van tempels. Het gedeeltelijk gerestaureerde amfitheater is een must-see. Met een beetje fantasie zie je hier de voorstellingen en festivals uit het verleden voor je. Vervolgens ga je naar het 5e-eeuwse klooster van St.-Barnabas, waar je het iconenmuseum met exemplaren uit de Byzantijnse periode bezoekt.Dan wandel je samen met een gids door het spookachtige Varosha, waar de tijd al tientallen jaren stil staat. Ooit was het een populair vakantieoord, maar is al bijna 50 jaar compleet verlaten. Na wat vrije tijd om te lunchen verken je Famagusta, een stad die in het verleden een van de rijkste steden aan de Middellandse Zee was. De gids laat je de bezienswaardigheden zien, zoals het Venetiaanse kasteel en de gotische kathedraal die nu een moskee is.

We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon at Varosha and the lunch break in old town Famagusta. We were not particularly interested in Salamis or the monastery and feel a half day tour would have worked better for us. We would like to say that Tuli, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and approachable and would appreciate our positivity passing onto her please.

It would of been better to have more time in the ghost town to explore, I would cut out the monastery part and shorten the time in famagusta to give more time to varosha as it was truly eerie to be there but we didn't get to see all of it because of time. The guides were amazing 👏 ❤️ had a brilliant day and would highly recommend this experience!

Die Tour an sich ist abwechslungsreich und interessant, allerdings ist es im August schon sehr heiß und man geht viel über Asphalt und Stein. Der Tourleiter erzählte viel und gestaltete das Programm kurzweilig. Sehr gute Limonade in Salamis, die im Preis enthalten ist!

Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist super. Andreas ist ein unglaublich toller und netter Reiseführer gewesen. Er war sehr freundlich und hat uns alle unsere Fragen beantwortet. Beim Grab von Postel Barnabas hätten wir uns gewünscht das man ein bisschen mehr Zeit gehabt hätte. Dann hätten wir das Museum noch besichtigen können.

I feel that this trip should have been cancelled because of the weather warnings. The storm was absolutely horrendous and meant that we couldn’t look at things properly. It was only when someone said to the guide that it wasn’t safe that she pulled it.

Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. There was a schedule change so didn’t get to do the cake shop stop. Would have liked more time in ghost town, guide was again full of interesting facts, but it did stop us walking around a little more than I would have liked. In fairness to her she did say we could walk on our own and with hindsight we would have done that.

Too little time spent at both Salamis and Varousha - not enough time to fully explore, though it was hot that day a packed lunch or arranged lunch stop would be better. Cannot fault the guides knowledge and passion for thier subject, but let people explore, that’s why we paid; too see the sites.

Super godt arrangeret tur. Guide vidste klart meget men var alt for detaljeret i sine historiske forklaringer, det var tydeligt at mange af gæsterne ikke magtede at lytte med. Det ville have været dejligt med kortere mere overordnede historier. Men guide var ellers serviceminded og gav god vejledning til det praktiske.

War schön die Geisterstadt zu sehen mit Erklärungen vom Guide. Hätten gern mehr gesehen. Die ehemalige St. Nikolaus Kathedrale wurde leider gerade renoviert und konnte nur von außen hinter Baustellenzäunen fotografiert werden.

Man hat uns gesagt es ist kinderfreundlich, war es überhaupt nicht. Wir haben extra nachgefragt sie hat auch gesehen dass meine Tochter nicht laufen kann und wir mit den Kinderwagen hin mussten was dort nicht möglich ist zu fahren wir mussten sie nur halten und bei der Hitze war es nicht schön mit ein klein Kind im Arm

Guide (Sunday) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The whole experience was enjoyable and also informative in making us aware of past experiences of Cyprus and how this is still ongoing, impacting on the lives of so many. Did initially feel slightly apprehensive about being a tourist within the north of Cyprus but felt very welcomed and found the local businesses to be friendly and helpful.

Salamis: Toll, so viel Antike, gut erhaltene Mauerwerke. Famagusta: Sehr interessante Geschichte über Barnabas. Die anschließende Altstadt Besichtigung mit Freizeit auch sehr schön. Danach in die Geisterstadt: kaum vorstellbar und echt traurig, das hier Häuser, Hotels, Kirchen, Cafés etc. seit > 50 Jahren zerfallen. Die Natur eroberte alles zurück. Vieles einsturzgefährdet und zugewachsen. Kontrollen durchs Militär, stellenweise Foto u. Video Verbot.

We were shown no beach caves, the main reason we went to start with! When we got to the ghost town, we stayed with our guide for information and we wish we hadn’t! She was telling us that queen elizabeth 2nd was queen Victoria’s daughter and then said that queen Elizabeth 2nd ordered the the slaughter of Muslims in Cyprus! She spoke so much nonsense that most people on the tour walked away from her! We stepped a few minutes into the ghost town and left without going any further,

Roman ruins were a bit hot but obviously no control over that! Well spaced out places to visit and enjoyable free time in Famagusta. Monastery was interesting as was the ghost town apart from the torrential rain! A good day out but would be helpful if was made plainer is a walking tour with a lot of steps to get the best experience-some of the coach party were less mobile. Great guide and coach driver.

The long term history of Salamis, Famagusta and Varosha was fascinating. A lot of walking on a very hot day, and then a downpour when exposed outdoors. The guide was good BUT clearly anti-British with an INCORRECT narrative history of the fight for Cypriot independence. She even has Queen Elizabeth the Second personally deciding against it. Clearly doesn't know how a constitutional monarchy works. Government makes decisions, not monarch.

Es war sehr interessant und sehenswert. Viele Informationen. Es war sehr heiß, dafür kann keiner was. Der Bus war klimatisiert, es gab 0,5l Wasserflaschen für 50 Cent, top! Der Reiseführer war Grieche mit einem enormen Wissen und sehr sympathisch, auch deutschsprachig, allerdings mit starkem Akzent. Es fiel mir teilweise schwer ihm zuzuhören. Ich habe auch nicht alles verstanden. Trotzdem war der Ausflug gut und ist zu empfehlen.

The overall tour started well with a trip to the ancient ruins. The guide (Tula) was factual but what spoilt the whole day was when we visited the ghost town of Varosha, it became nothing but a political rant for almost 40 minutes. Some of the so called facts she was giving us where really more her partisan view rather than the history we paid for. Her claims that the late Queen Elizabeth II had personally instructed British soldiers to torture prisoners was quite incredible.

I thought our guide Tula was amazing. She certainly knows her history and her delivery was excellent. She knew how to keep her audience interested, which is an art in itself. She was also very sensitive to the fact I was Greek Cypriot from the North whose family and relatives lost everything.

The tour guide we had was amazing - her name translates to Sunday and she was very knowledgable about all parts of the tour. We would have like to have had longer at each spot as there was so much to see and do but then we would have been back by bedtime!

Wir haben die Tour hauptsächlich wegen der Geisterstadt Famagusta gebucht. Der Guide konnte sehr schlecht deutsch und erzählte die ganze Tour nur unwesentliche und uninteressante Details. Auf Fragen wich er teilweise aus. Wir sind förmlich die letzte halbe Stunde durch die Geisterstadt gerannt, sodass wir gar keine richtige Zeit zum Anschauen hatten und das, obwohl die Geisterstadt groß in der Ausschreibung der Tour stand. Dann lieber weniger Kirchen zwischendurch. Es war enttäuschend.

Guide Andreas sehr freundlich, hat viele Infos. Wenn man sich direkt nur mit ihm unterhält ist auch alles gut. Aber wenn er vor der Gruppe laut die Fakten erzählt, ist er kaum verständlich. Salamis war ok, jedoch ist man schnell durchgegangen. St. Barnabas aus meiner Sicht völlig sinnlos, da gibt es auf Zypern viel schönere,interessantere Klöster/Kirchen. Die Zeit hätte man für Famagusta sparen können. Hier war zu wenig Zeit. Highlight war Varosha, sehr interessant. Insgesamt eher enttäuschend

Knowledgeable tour rep, locations were eye openers, from the Roman ruins to Famagusta and the surrounding ruins of hotels and homes since the invasion 1974, certainly makes you realise how fortunate we are to not be involved in a military oust. Definitely worth the time to take in and absorb the oldest history to much more modern upheaval.

We enjoyed the experience, the history, the charter of the tripa and information . It was very hot but the guide was very good at keeping the inform short and giving us more talks on the bus between stops

We had a fantastic day with our guide Olga and driver Georgio. Orga has a vast and interesting knowledge of all the destinations we visited from the ruins of Salamis to the ghost town of Veroshca. The ghost town is surreal.. like something out of a movie, but real! Highly recommend this tour to learn a little history of Famagusta Cyprus. 5 STAR trip.

Really enjoyed this informative excursion over to the North side of Cyprus. To learn the history and culture of Northern Cyprus and to finally be able to walk through the Famagusta ghost town. Which had been closed off since the conflict in 1974. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative. Would have loved a little longer in the walled city as we only had time to eat and couldn’t have a walk around. Would recommend as an easy way to get over the border and not have to worry with insurance.

We felt ghost city should have been first on the agenda and the visit to the ruins was to long in the heat by the time we got to the ghost town we were losing the will to live due to the heat,we feel that the tour should have focused more on the ghost city and been longer instead of the 50 mins allocated very interesting but not long enough but tour guide really knowledgeable and fabulous.

I felt Salamis was mostly modern day fake statues and pillars. Famagusta wa lovely. By the time you had food there wasn’t much time for site-seeing and the Cathedral is closed for the next 4 years. The guide was satisfactory upto the Ghost town. I listened to a political, biased, non factual speech on how Queen Elizabeth (who was the daughter of Victoria???) organised the breakup of Cyprus. Tourists criticised for putting money into the hands of the Turks for coming on these excursions.

Der Guide war zuvorkommend und freundlich. Vermittelte viel geschichtliches Wissen. Leider öfters schwer verständlich. Er hat viel historisches erzählt, weniger über das Land wie es heute ist. Die Ausgrabungen im griechischen Teil waren gepflegter. Varoscha ist trotz der geschichtlichen Tragödie eine Besichtigung wert. Die Fahrstrecke im großen Reisebus war kurzweilig.

Es war ein toller Ausflug und in dem Sperrgebiet könnte mehr Zeit, vielleicht auch mit Baden eingeplant werden. Dieses würde ich am Anfang der Reise Vormittags durchführen.

The tour guide was lovely, great knowledge shared. Tour guide and coach driver very friendly and approachable. Would have liked longer in the ghost town and to be able to walk along the beach, however a very pleasant experience Claire and Sarah

Opas kertoi paljon (jopa ehkä liian pitkä tarina omaan makuuni, jaksoi kuunnella noin puolet, ala-asteikäiset eivät jaksaneet sitäkään, en suosittelisi lapsiperheelle matkaa, yleisesti aikuisille mielekkäämpi). Retkipäivämme olivat liian kuumia kyseiselle retkelle, ei siis hellekohde. Kohteet lähellä toisiaan, bussissa hyvä ilmastointi, auttoi hieman jaksamaan paremmin.
