Take a walk on the wild side with a tour of the Dominican Republic's rugged Anamuya Mountains. See a snapshot of rural life as shown to you by an in-the-know local. Alex, one of our expert guides, says, ‘I'm a native and have been guiding tours here for more than 10 years. You'll learn about local history, plants and crops, and get to try home-grown coffee and fruit, too.'Fun facts, exotic wildlife and the chance to take a river swim – this tour has it all. After pick-up from your hotel, we'll head deep into the Dominican outback. And because we'll visit the less-travelled parts of the country, it helps support areas that don't usually benefit from tourism. What's more, you'll be part of a small group of just 16 guests, minimising our carbon footprint. ‘It's a great way to get in touch with nature and give back to the rural community,' says Alex. Rolling through the forest-carpeted countryside, we'll arrive at a ranch, where we begin with complimentary drinks and the lowdown on the day ahead.Set off trekking through luxuriant, peaked landscapes as your friendly guide shows you around. You'll meet the locals and taste locally grown seasonal products – from farm to fork, it doesn't get much fresher. Be sure to keep an eye out for rare plants, birds and wildlife, too. Itse vaellus kesti vain hetken aikaa (n. 30 min). Matkalla ei näkynyt lainkaan eläimiä. Saimme maistella hedelmiä suoraan puista. Matka tehtiin avoseinäisellä bussilla, jossa oli kova tuuli ja meteli. Kävimme joella jossa olisi voinut uida, täällä vietimme suurimman osan ajasta. Vuorella ja joella olimme noin 2 h ja matkantekoon meni noin 3 tuntia.

I went on this trip expecting to see some birds on the mountain but there were none to be seen The family were very nice especially the older 72 year old owner He helped me on several slippery sections of the walk It was interesting for the plants and trees But as I went purely for the birds I was gutted

Guide and driver were very good. The walk was very rural in with cows & bulls and cow pats. ?? Amazed at all the fruit and vegetation in such an area The vehicle was ok for country and off road. But an hour on main motorway didn’t feel comfortable Shame about the waterfall ?? it was a pipe coming out the ground.

Första 1,5 tim var totalt bortkastad. Sitta på ett skramligt flak med en guide som skrek på ömsom spanska / engelska i en mix som bara skränade. Sedan inkastade på ett cigarrställe för att 5 min sedan transporteras vidare till platsen för ”vandring” vilket visade sig vara en väg genom plantage/jordbruk. Visserligen vackert och intressant med alla grödor. 45 min senare fick vi besöka ett ”genuint” hem med mer försäljning. Detta är långt från vad vi uppfattat vi skulle uppleva.

It was a limited walking experience for a 4hr round trip. Not enough scenery was in total 1.2k up the side of a hill. Enjoyed tasting the fruits that were collected along the way.

Very long journey in a bone rattling open truck. Walk around a farm lethal with barbed wire everywhere. Beautiful views from the hillside but paths very narrow and uneven. Pool made with concrete not natural! Anyone who wants to go walking in the mountains does not then want to go on the tourist trail of cigar factories etc!!!

I enjoyed the whole experience from the pick up point. The vehicle used. The driver was a skilled and careful driver. The guide was personable, thoughtful, demonstrating his experience as a tour guide. The walk was steep and although I felt nervous at times I was guided through safely and given a stick to support me on the walk. I enjoy the water from the stream, the information and food shared at the resting points. The whole experience was amazing.

It was difficult to give either a thumbs up or down as the walk in the mountain was brilliant. We saw lots of interesting things. The walk was doable and very enjoyable. Then we went for the second part of the trip which was to a river for a swim. I understand the nature of the country we’re in but we drove down a litter strewn track and the river was full of foul litter. It didn’t even look safe to enter to paddle and no one from our group wanted to chance it. real shame we didn’t get that exp

De wandeling met proeverijen was ok, we kregen een goede uitleg over de producten en teelt. Helaas beantwoordde het volgende gedeelte van de tour in niets aan onze verwachtingen. Het zwemmen in de rivier hebben we wijselijk voor gepast. Het was daar 1 grote vuilnisbelt! Echt jammer! Ik zag daar meerdere teleurgestelde gezichten. De gids heeft wel enorm zijn best gedasnnom er het beste van te maken.

Wij vonden de wandeling met gids fantastisch! Vera fruit overal waar je kon kijken en zo lekker hebben we het nog nooit gegeten. Veel informatie en prachtige uitzichten. Chauffeur op de heen weg was heel prettig, de chauffeur op de terug weg had nogal haast en dat voelde minder veilig! De rivier zouden jullie er uit moeten halen, daar is het zo vies met afval dat doet afbreuk aan de rest van de excursie.

Le parcours dans la montagne est sympathique . Par contre ,l’endroit où les touristes sont invités à se baigner laisse à désirer … Se baigner au milieu de déchets , plastiques… Nous avons été choqués et n’avons pas osés se baigner dans cette rivière où je ne laisserai même pas mon chien s’y baigner … cela gâche vraiment la fin de l’activité et nous laisse un souvenir un peu amer sur l’excursion, ce qui est fortement dommage étant donné que la promenade dans la montagne était fort sympathique .

We loved this trip. The small group made it for us. Very friendly guides and very knowledgeable. The hike wasn’t too strenuous and we were lucky with the weather although we took umbrellas as a precaution. We loved the fruit tasting and chance to buy locally produced wares. It was nice to see a bit of the countryside outside the resort.

The tour itself was fantastic walking the mountain and seeing and learning a little about the produce that can be made from the fauna. The show and tell was informative and you could also buy coffee honey and jewellery. The disappointment was the swim stop at the end none of us on the trip went for a swim as we did not want to become ill the amount of rubbish and sewage where we stopped was not pleasant it was a health risk. I did not wish to swim through human faeces. Such a shame.

We really enjoyed this trip last year so booked it again. Whilst the staff were friendly, helpful and keen to tell us about the local fruit and culture there was very little walking compared to last year. Neither did we enjoy the fantastic Mountain Views that were part of last years trip and there was no river swim this year.

De gids heeft veel uitleg gegeven over de natuur (planten, bomen, fruitsoorten waarvan we ook konden proeven. Tijdens de wandeling regelmatig een stop. We hebben oa een sigarenfabriek bezocht maar ook koffie / chocolademelk geproefd gemaakt door lokale bevolking. Totaal niet commercieel, je krijgt een kijkje in het leven van de lokale bevolking.

Notre guide Eduardo était super, très sympathique et souriant. Il parlait français et anglais. Il nous a parlé de la biodiversité, des villages que l’on a traversé et des spécialités dominicaines. Nous avons pu nous rafraîchir près d’une rivière, traverser des prés et goûter des fruits (noix de coco, mangue, papaye, canne à sucre,…) ainsi que du café et du cacao chez des locaux. Une excursion très agréable que l’on recommande. Prévoir des chaussures de randonnée.

I did this tour before. The walk this time was much shorter; doing around 4000 steps. We didn't do the river swim this time either. Guide was informative and we had some local fruits, but spent a large proportion of time doing this rather than walking. Overall, tour wasn't what we expected although still enjoyable. Not sure I would do it again.

De transfer was een halfuur te laat. Verwarrende opstart doordat we moesten overstappen op een andere bus waar reeds mensen inzaten die een andere excursie gingen doen. We moesten in het algemeen lang wachten. Ook tijdens de wandeling. In totaal hebben we een 15 minuten effectief gewandeld waarvan 2u gewacht. De wandeling was daardoor onvoorspelbaar en verwarrend. Voor het oppikken om terug naar hotel te gaan nog eens lang wachten. Niet de moeite waard voor je geld

The ride to the initial walking point is in a very representative local transport. It is synergistic with the rural location. The guides were knowledgeable and keen to show many local fruits. It is a real reflection of the difference within the country, but it keeps one 'real' in terms of the vacation experience. Be prepared for a couple of short river crossings that are a little more and ankle deep. The organisers are ready with 'crocs' if you prefer. The rural journey home is a must in my view

Lång väntan på mellantransport utan information. Turen halverades pga regn vilket var tråkigt och blev en kortare dag samt badmöjligheter försvann. Borde flyttat turen till annan dag istället. Trevliga guider o fin omgivning. Kan vara bra att informera man går via vattendrag och djurhagar.

A warning should be issued that guests require “wet shoes” or similar as the walk crosses a river four times. They should also consider “pacing” the hike as we walked quite quickly then rested for an unnecessarily long time.

The Anamuya Mountains Small Group Walking Tour was okay, but the organization could be better. For an eco-labeled tour, the transport was far from eco-friendly, and we inhaled quite a bit of exhaust fumes. There wasn’t much actual walking—just long stops—and it felt more like wandering around random fields than exploring real mountains. The staff was friendly but spoke little English. The views were nice, and we saw some nature and animals, but nothing too exciting.

Heel mooie wandeling, weg van alle toerisme. Mooi natuurgebied en gids met veel kennis van zaken! Na de wandeling wel bijna een uur moeten wachten op vervoer terug naar het hotel, zonder drinken in de hitte. Dit was het enige minpuntje.

Our tour guide Richard (ricardo) was amazing so friendly extremely knowledgeable also my husband and I had an amazing time during the walk and tasting the fruit etc of the trees his assistant Julio was also very good making my husband a drink from fresh fruit as he wasn't feeling well. Would highly recommend the views are incredible definitely worth it! Well done Richard you made the experience even more enjoyable thank you!

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Walking up hills, alongside rivers, crossing and swimming in the river too. Very informative guides, pointing out coffee, mango, orange, guava, avocado, ylang ylang and coconut growing on the hillsides, most of which we were able to sample Seeing the homes of the locals was interesting and humbling. Such a great experience.

Loved this trip, felt like we got to see the real place. The guides answered all questions that were asked and helped me get over the rivers. The country side is lovely and full of wonderful and amazing sights, you cross a few streams so my advice would be to take some waterproof shoes to change into as the stones are quite sharp on bare feet.

As a keen Walker, this was a VERY gentle stroll around the foothills of the Anamuya mountains. The walk itself lasted about 2 hours, and was around 3 miles long, with frequent stops. That said, it was a very pleasant experience. The ‘snacks’ on offer were all picked from the trees in passing, and served at a local house, where the owner provided a shot of coffee to accompany the fresh mango, coconut and ‘apple water’. I would have preferred a more challenging hike, but it was good to get out.

Eduardo and Julio were fantastic. I enjoyed the physical aspect of getting out in nature, seeing a typical Dominican house that being ms cha cha’s. Enjoying home grown delicacies as we walked and being told information about them. The views . The chats . The nice dip in the river after a long walk in the heat.

Disappointing for the cost Guide introduced us to the two local families you meet, and showed us some fruit, but didn't provide explanations/guidance about how people live in the hills/rural, their struggles and successes etc. guide didn't say much of anything Could've been run earlier in the morning so you're not walking in the midday sun Wasn't in the mountains like the title states

Es sollte besser definiert werden was geeignetes Schuhwerk ist. Bei viermal Flussüberquerung braucht man Badeschuhe und auch Schirm ,oder ein leichtes Regencape., Das es täglich dort regnet ist uns mitten im Platzregen auf der Tour gesagt worden. Der Ausflug selbst ist sehr zu empfehlen, die Guides gaben sich Mühe einem möglichst viel zu erklären. Die Pausen mit Früchten und Kaffee sehr gastfreundlich.

Die Gruppe war ca. 25 Personen groß, also eher keine kleine Gruppe. Dafür waren aber 4 Guides dabei, die alles im Blick hatten und sehr hilfsbereit waren. Es war ein sehr schönes Erlebnis und auf jeden Fall weiterzuempfehlen.

Die Einweisung der Rezeption war ein wenig unzureichend. Ebenso Fremdsprachenkenntnisse des Personals waren nicht so wirklich vorhanden. Insgesamt war der Urlaub aber wirklich super

This was an excellent tour for anyone wanting to get off resort and see some of the countryside. The bus that collected us was a bit old and bashed but safe. The drivers and guide were excellent, they took us up a dirt track to the mountain side where we walked, stopping along the way to sample fruit from the trees, oranges, lemons, vanilla, ylang ylang, the views were amazing. We had a stop at a traditional Dominican house where we had coconut and coffee and then had a stop to swim in a river.

Topexcursie. Door de prachtige natuur, bergen met palmbomen, allerhande fruit op onze weg, proeven van passievrucht, kokosnoot, een koffietje van de lieve locals, waden door riviertjes met ook een frisse duik alvorens terug te keren. Paarden en koeien die daar vrij rondliepen, zelfs een everzwijn (varken?) op onze weg gehoord maar daar waren de hondjes dus voor. Ook de vriendelijke locals op onze tocht, 3 gidsen met 2 lieve honden die er ook van genoten. Aanrader !!! Overal voldoende tijd.

Hallo, es war eine sehr schöne Wanderung. Wir hätten uns gewünscht wenn der Guide bei dem Stop auf dem Bauernhof etwas über Land und Leute erzählt. Die kleinen Köstlichkeiten nationaler Speisen/Früchte war sehr gut.

The tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and lovely to see a different part of the Dominican Republic but the tour was over in 2 and a half hours. It was advertised as longer and would of been nice to do more walking. Not sure if it was because we were a group of just 7 people. Also the wait for the bus to pick us up was around 1hr and 15mins. That's too long

Der Ausflug an sich war sehr schön, eine kleine Gruppe sodass auf jeden individuell eingegangenen werden konnte. Der Transport hin war auch super, der Rücktransport war allerdings katastrophal. Wir haben fast 2 Stunden auf den Rücktransport gewartet und es gab keine Getränke mehr. Die Wanderung hat genau so lang gedauert wie das warten auf den Transport, was sehr schade war, vorallem weil die Wanderung wirklich schön war.

The trip was extremely well organised, never once did they ask our name or hotel but even though we had to change vehicles on both journeys, they new exactly who was to be where. The guides were very friendly and informative. The views on the walk were lovely and the swim in the river finished the trip perfectly

Un guide parfait. Nous a expliqué la biodiversité, nous a permis de goûter les fruits. Expérience chez la famille qui nous accueille pour un excellent café. Ainsi que des mangues fraîches coupées, et noix de coco. Des personnes chaleureuses. La fin de l'excursion se termine dans un beignade dans la rivière, pour les personnes qui désirent. Belle découverte.

Leuke toer, maar het drinken laat zeer te wensen over. Over de hele tour 1 flesje water gehad en niets om tussen door wat te eten. Er mag wel vermeld worden dat je dit zelf verder mee moet nemen. Wij waren vanaf 8:30 uur tot 15:15 onderweg. Dan is het aangeboden flesje water veel te weinig.

Ontzettend leuke tour. Misschien wel handig om te weten dat je goed ter been moet zijn en klein beetje conditie moet hebben, want de wandeling is in de hitte soms pittig. Hele aardige en vriendelijke gids. Hij wist veel te vertellen over de omgeving. Totaal andere omgeving dan resorts, zee en strand. De rivier waar je aan het eind kon zwemmen zag er iets minder mooi uit dan verwacht, maar niet alles hoeft perfect te zijn. Uiteindelijk was het heerlijk water om even af te koelen. Een aanrader!

Great morning. Guides eduardo and Julio excellent and informative zsazsa very welcoming. Drinks and snacks provided were great disappointed no coconut water Minibus seatbelts did not work and due to weather no river swim understandably Could have benefitted from knowing how many river crossings and knowing when we would encounter them.

Leuke korte wandeling door de heuvels. Het was maar een kwartiertje rijden vanaf ons resort dus je gaat niet echt het ‘binnenland’ in. Maar het is wel weer een andere omgeving en je ziet hoe de mensen daar wonen en leven. Onze gids ‘Mama Gina’ was een topper, ze is een geboren Belg en vertelde in Engels, Frans en Nederlands van alles over de planten, omgeving en cultuur. Aan het einde een kokosnoot gegeten/gedronken en een duik genomen. Al met al waren we met 3.5 á 4 uurtjes weer terug.

La guide interagit beaucoup avec le groupe. C’était chouette de rencontrer des locaux et de pouvoir visiter leur habitat. On sort des sentiers battus. Les points négatifs: prévoir chaussures de marche et des chaussures étanches ( traversée de rivière ) et ********** peu de temps pour se baigner dans la rivière.

Lovely walking tour of the local mountains. Guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. The views were amazing and eating fruit/nuts off trees was great on the way round. Take flip flops for the river crossings, not advertised in the list of stuff to bring (the rocks are sharp).

Prachtige wandeling door de bergen - rivieren oversteken. Ideaal voor mensen die houden van natuur en avontuur. Niet te onderschatten met de warmte. Waren met 5 en drie begeleiders - locals zijn hier fantastisch en merk je heel duidelijk op deze trip. Niet aan te raden voor mensen met geen conditie.
