The remote Berber villages of Tunisia's Atlas Mountains are about as far away from modernity as you can get. On this tour, you'll be whisked away in an off-road vehicle into these highlands to visit the Roman ruins of Zaghouan and Uthina as well as the mountain village Zriba El Alya. Mohamed, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Zriba El Alya was deserted in the 1960s after the development of the new town in the plain. But four to five families still live here among the ruins, which now mostly serve as sheepfolds.'Your Atlas adventure begins at the little-visited Uthina, which is still being excavated by archaeologists. Admire the amphitheatre – up to 16,000 spectators watched gladiatorial combats – the magnificent mosaics unearthed in villas and more. The Roman theme continues at the Zaghouan Water Temple, site of an ancient sacred spring. Its location, fringed by pine trees at the foot of a mountain, gives an indication of just how revered it was by the ancients.We'll then drop into a Zaghouan eco-lodge set in beautiful gardens for a Tunisian pastry cookery demonstration and a typical lunch made from locally sourced ingredients. What's more, your visit contributes to the local community and economy. The day's final stop is the half-ruined Berber village of Zriba El Alya, which lies on a craggy ridge. It boasts superb views of Djebel Zaghouan, the fourth highest peak in Tunisia, and the coastline. Your guide will fill you in on the story behind its hard-to-reach location.

Trotz des schlechten Wetters waren alle frohen Mutes und sehr bemueht, die Tour wie beschrieben durchzufuehren. Leider war durch den Regen wenig Zeit, sich die Sehenswuerdigkeitn besser (ausfuehrlicher) anzuschauen.

Loved the small group size, meant that pickup was quick and guide could easily be heard and answer all questions. Guide (& driver) spoke great English and provided informative commentary on places visited and also a little Tunisian culture for good measure. 'Jeep' like vehicle fairly new and in good condition, though space is a little tighter on 3rd row, guide thoughtfully rotated who sat there across those able. Loved the sites visited. Highly recommend.

The day we had originally booked was cancelled due to weather (the weather was lovely for the day we had originally booked). We were in a 4x4 with a French couple. Our driver explained a lot of sights in French but not in English. We felt a little left out of the tour as our French is not good.

Only one negative. I recently underwent heart surgery and recovered from cancer. I am 78 years of age and found it extremely difficult to scramble into the rear seat of the 4x4. The other passengers did not want to give up their seats which had better access. However the tour guide was excellent

The trip was well organised, the 4x4 was clean and comfy, just had a little issue with needing help to enter and get out of vehicle by the driver. Guide was very informative and engaging, saw some wonderful sites. Only disappointment was the lunch, meat was fatty and chewy.

Just could have given a little more time ite ore interesting locations - it was Ramadan so.I suspect the guide and driver wanted to finish a bit early. Also need to warn older or disabled people t hat they have to get into the back of a Toyota Landcruiser

Our guide was exceptional, extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating, our driver looked after my mother very well, the farm was super and the food was very good. The experience as a whole was super but I would have liked to have gone more into the mountains.

Dit was geen excursie maar een expeditie!! Was wel volledig uitgeput bij thuiskomst waarschijnlijk ´door TE VEEL input van de gids over zaken die niets met de tour te maken hadden, bv voetbal in liverpool. Gids sprak met het geluid voor een grote bus terwijl wij maar in een 4x4 zaten. De gids was wel zeer bekwaam en alleswetend.... De omgeving was byzonder en onverwacht mooi, chauffeur reed veilig en vriendelijk beleeft De lunch was heel lekker en lang genoeg. De zitplaats vooraanperfek!!

Sehr professionelle Führung, der Fahrer Ali war super Souverän im verrückten Straßenverkehr, unser Guide war der beste wusste alles und hat uns auf soviel aufmerksam gemacht, es war ein fantastischer Ausflug die Zeit ist geflogen. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Die Kinder hatten auch sehr viel Aufmerksamkeit und hatten Spaß. Für uns war das ein super schönes Erlebnis, absolute Empfehlung!! Ein großes Dankeschön und Kompliment an die Organisation und Durchführung!

An excellent day of travel to be shown several interesting sights in the Atlas mountains that a coach wouldn’t be able to reach. The 4x4 was a much better, more personal way to travel and the guide was very knowledgeable. Lunch was authentically Tunisian and there was lots of opportunities to ask questions and learn about the Romans, Tunisians, Berbers. Excellent value for money

Enjoyed it all, very good guide and driver..Local lunch was a bit disappointing, particularly for the vegetarians in the group. The beginning of trip was not comfortable with 3 people on the bench seat. Another lady requested the back seats to be put up and it was so much better. We really enjoyed the tour.

There were only 2 of us on this tour,myself and a lady I'd never met before. Hammamad and Hamza made us very welcome and the trip was a great success. Hammamad is very knowledgeable and explained everything to us in a friendly manner answering all of our questions. Hamza is an excellent driver and I felt safe at all times. As the party was so so small it felt more like a family day out. Loved every minute of it.

Veel gezien watertempel, colloseum, dorp en verdwenen dorp. Uitleg was goed maar ging cool over gebouwen. Over het leven in de dorpen werd weinig verteld.

Unfortunately, TUI did not relay the correct hotel to the guide so over half hour wait but I cannot fault the guide, the driver or the content. The guide was so informative and amusing and had been a tour guide for 36 years so could not ask for better. I would highly recommend this tour but bear in mind a level of fitness is advantageous as getting in and out of the 4X4 was difficult. The lunch, the stops and the history of the area made this an excellent value for money your.

Pünktlich abgeholt worden. Fahrer sehr gut durch das Gebirge gefahren. Wir sind mit dem Jeep gefahren das hatte seinen Grund. Der Guide hat viel erzählt zu den einzelnen Haltepunkten. Die Tour an sich ist interessant vorallem das verlassene Dorf im Atlasgebirge. Tolle Sicht über Hammamet. Das Mittagessen war nicht so gut,4Punkte von 10.

As the tour title suggests this was off the beaten track in 4x4 cars The tour was excellent visiting plenty of archeological sites,the tour guide was very knowledgeable especially as he had to translate into 3 languages,only downside was that we had multiple languages in each car we thought it would of been better to put ssne nationalities in each car & that the cars were not that comfortable in the back especially due to the length of time we spent in them,other than that it was a great day out

Erg veel gezien ,chauffeur was zeer vriendelijk en tijdens de rit veel uitleg gekregen over de locaties waar we passeerden. Af en toe was de stop iets te kort . Eten was lekker en voor mensen die het niet lusten was er een alternatief.

Er was ons beloofd (!) dat er zeker een Nederlandstalige gids zou zijn voor ons. HELAAS was dit NIET! De TUI-verantwoordelijke heeft duidelijk gezegd dat dit zo zou zijn op de geplande woensdag. Ten tweede: wij hebben in de jeep op de achterste zitbank moeten zitten waar veel te weinig plaats is!!! De chauffeur was wel top, zij het in het Frans. Uiteindelijk hebben we er weinig aan gehad, zelfs het eten was maar sober.

Our guide, Yosra, was knowledgeable and engaging. The sites we saw at Uthina, with the Roman amphitheatre and mosaics were amazing, and it was lovely to visit the Berber villages, and learn about details and customs, and sample traditional food. However, the only toilets available at some sights were in a terrible condition with no water or paper towels. The meal was poor, especially considering the cost of the tour, we weren't told what it was, and frankly didn't want to eat it.

Das Faszinierendste an der Tour war, mit Jeeps über kleine Strassen zu fahren und Tunesien jenseits der Ferienresorts zu sehen. Die beeinruckenden antiken Ausgrabungen zeigen sich gut gestaltet und teilweise mit sehr guten Besucherzentren ausgestatet. Auf der Tour wurden atemberaubende Landschaften und pittoreske Orte angefahren. Die Guides ud Fahrer waren exzellent und führten zu landestypichen Gaststätten und Cafes. Ich fand das Verhältnis zwischen Fahrt, Besichtigung, Pause sehr gut.

Our guide was very good, friendly and knowledgeable, ha was also pointing out interesting facts along the journey. The amphitheatre was really enjoyable, very interesting, and a good experience to be able to go underground and imagine what it was like back in the day. The drinks that we purchased were very reasonably priced. The only slight problem was the dog mess.

Het is zeker je geld wel waard! Vriendelijke chauffeur, gids eveneens en weet heel veel te vertellen. Je ziet veel van de geschiedenis van Tunesië en de omgeving Atlas gebergte daar! Zeker ook geschikt voor kinderen van om en nabij 7jaar. De lunch is een lokaal, alleen te pittig voor kleine kinderen (maar kunnen wel genieten was veel fruit/watermeloen). Zal het zeker doen, zo zie je wat van de cultuur en omgeving! Jammer dat tijdens onze trip, de proeverij gesloten was/niet ging.. 9 op 10!

Leuke tocht maar hij werd op voorhand anders voorgesteld door de TUI begeleider . 2 voorbeelden: we werden in de waan gelaten dat we het colosseum dat gebruikt werd in de film de 'gladiator' zouden zien alsook dat we het berbervolk zouden ontmoeten. In werkelijkheid was het ander, veel kleiner colosseum en hebben we van het berbervolk enkel een verlaten dorp en een afstandsfoto van een dorp op een heuvel kunnen zijn. Praktijken van de strandverkopers van excurcies maar van TUI verwacht ik meer.

The tour guide was knowledgeable friendly and kept us informed at each stage of the tour The restaurant didn’t really tell us what we were eating so it was very much a guessing game. All food contained chilli of some degree, so not good if you have no tolerance for hot food (like me)

Wir haben dieses Erlebnis über die tui App gebucht und konnten uns einen Tag unserer Wahl aussuchen. Wir hatten uns fürs Wochenende entschieden und das war die beste Entscheidung. Mit gerade mal 2 Jeeps waren wir unterwegs direkt zu den Attraktionen dieser Tour, keine Wartezeiten, keine riesige abholaktion... Sondern gleich los ins Abenteuer... Es war mega toll ohne jegliche Verkaufstour.

This experience was fantastic, you see and learn so much. It exceeded our expectations. You got to see the true country and not the touristy bits. Thank you to our Guide Muhammed who made this tour so interesting and keen for us to learn about Tunisia's history. The farm restaurant was quaint and food delicious. Lunch food included but pay separately for drinks but might better to also include to avoid having to deal with payments, change was given. Would definitely recommend this trip.

We were not told beforehand we had to pay extra for our drinks at lunch. I paid the restaurant owner 20 Dinar for drinks that only cost 12 Tunisia dinar and he refused to give me my change just stating he didn't have any. It's a good job we took money with us as we were not told until after we had drank the drink which also we didn't get a choice of, that we had to pay for it. This is very misleading and disappointing. Otherwise the trip was amazing.

Der Ausflug ist zu empfehlen. Die Fahrt mit drei Jeeps verlief angenehm, allerdings sollten die Fahrzeuge nicht voll besetzt sein. Der Tourguide Mohammed hatte eine sehr angenehme Art die Sehenswürdigkeiten zu erklären. Das Mittagessen wurde in einer schönen Location eingenommen und war schmackhaft.

The guide was amazing He was a very close man and explained things by setting an example and in a funny way. I did not like the price I consider it was very expensive for the circuit it was and the country where it is (Tunisia)
