The desolate beauty of inland Sal is in stark contrast to the white sands of its coast. On this off-road safari, you'll explore Murdeira Bay, the Buracona lagoon, the ocean-like sands of Terra Boa and Pedra de Lume. Beyond the most popular sights, you'll also get a glimpse of local life in Palmeira and Espargos. Rodrigo, one of our expert local guides, says, "I've lived on Sal all my life, and I'm still fascinated by my island's colourful street art. It's a vivid reflection of our culture and our daily lives."Starting with a pit stop at Murdeira Bay, you'll trundle off in a closed 4x4 – we're the only ones using covered off-roaders – to the fishing village of Palmeira on the west coast. Its palm tree-lined streets are dotted with mural-painted cafés and tiny shops. Rodrigo says, "Palmeira's kaleidoscopic – and cluttered – souvenir shops are an attraction in themselves." Then it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for how it shimmers when hit by sunlight.Next, you'll witness the ocean-like sands and mirage of Terra Boa. An optical phenomenon, in which hot rays of light reflect distant objects and the sky, creates the illusion of a desert lake. Back on the road, there's a pit stop at a viewpoint, where you can enjoy an elevated panorama of Espargos, the island's capital. Wind down with a natural spa treatment in the Dead Sea-like lagoon of Pedra de Lume. Floating in one of the world's saltiest waters and inside an extinct volcano crater is a buoyant way to end the tour. What is the itinerary for this experience? This experience is available as a morning or afternoon tour, so the itinerary timings change depending on which one you pick. Morning option:- 8:00am – pick-up from your hotel- 8:15am – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 8:30am to 8:45am – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 9:15am to 9:30pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 10:10am to 10:20am – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 10:20am to 10:35am – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 10:35am to 11:15am – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 11:20am to 12:00pm – transfer back to your hotel----------Afternoon option:- 1:30pm – pick up from your hotel- 1:45pm – transfer to Murdeira Bay- 2:00pm to 2:15pm – continue to Palmeira for a visit to the fisherman's village- 2:45pm to 3:00pm – transfer to Buracona lagoon with a chance to see the Blue Eye- 3:40pm to 3:50pm – travel to Terra Boa with a photo stop at the Mirage- 3:50pm to 4:05pm – proceed to Salinas Pedra de Lume and the Salt Lakes- 4:05pm to 4:45pm – entrance to the Salt Lakes and time for swimming- 4:45pm to 5:30pm – transfer back to your hotel

They did the best with what they have, but there isn't much to see. The Blue Eye is only visible when the sun is directly overhead, no way we'd have seen it on either the morning or afternoon tour and TUI should make this more clear. That being said, the coastline here was stunning. The first place we visited was a bit pointless, not much to see just a little bay. The highlight for us was swimming in the salt pool, this was a lovely experience. Our guide was funny and informative.

Der Ausflug war sehr schön. Die kleine Gruppe im TUI Jeep war toll. Der Fahrer und unsere Reiseleiterin, Bruna, waren sehr sympathisch und lustig. Sie hat uns viele interessante Informationen aus witzig Art mitgeteilt. Der erste Stopp war etwas langweilig, hier sind wir nur kurz ausgestiegen. Hier hätten man vielleicht noch einen schönen Strand, den es dort geben soll anfahren können. Eine kleine Flasche Wasser für jeden wäre toll gewesen, damit man nicht immer selbst so viel mitnehmen muss.

Uns wurde nicht gesagt, dass man das "Blaue Auge" nur von 9.00-13.30 Uhr sehen kann. Unsere Tour begann aber erst um 13.30 Uhr, sodass wir nur ein schwarzes Loch sahen. Insgesamt war an allen Haltestellen die Zeit zu kurz bemessen. ein Schnäppschen in Palmeira, zum "Schwarzen Auge", zur sehr unspektakulären Fata Morgana, zu den Salinen. Alles im Eiltempo! Hier: schnell runter, keine 10 Minuten zum schwimmen und duschen und wieder zurück. Dann musste die Reiseleitung noch ihr Kind abholen.....

Luckily two people failed to show as six on the vehicle was more than enough. It would have been nice to have been offered a bottle of water at the restaurant stop. The fishing village was a challenge with the locals mooing at us and one individual who kept circling us.

This was more than an island tour. At each stop our guide Clovis gave us historical and social details about the life of Cape Verdean both past and present. There was a little time to explore the port of Palmeira and see the street art devoted to national heroes. The Blue eye stop was breathtaking. We glimpsed the prison and saw the capital with its half built houses. All put into context by Clovis who made lots of good jokes. The Salt lakes were very special. An enjoyable, educational trip

Lucy was our guide. Very lovely. Spoke very clearly and was happy all the time. The tour was well organised and well executed overall. I would have spent more money at the gift shops ect but there was little browsing time. The attractions were good value. I would have liked more info before as to what to bring, eg towels, swimwear. I googled what expect prior to coming on holiday.

Our guide Lucy is what made this the experience it was. Her energy was infectious and her humour and personality really turned this from being just a tour and making it an experience. Her banter with the driver Igor, the people running the stops, other driver, locals. It’s clear to anyone that she is truly loved and i could see why. The information she gave was clearly not just read of an info sheet but from someone who knows the island. Would 100% recommend. 5 Stars.

Overall the trip was fantastic with lots of information about the places we visited as well as some of the history and social aspects of the Cabo Verde islands. Unfortunately we were not aware that if you book an afternoon trip the ‘Blue Eye’ cannot be seen because of the position of the sun, had we known we probably would have booked the morning trip.

We werden strak op tijd opgehaald bij het hotel, de excursie liet zien wat we wilden zien en duurde niet te lang. Jammer dat het erg rustig was in het plaatsje dat we bezochten en de zit plaatsen achter in de jeep waren wat krap voor langere mensen

I really enjoyed the tour it was better than expected. I did feel a bit dizzy from travelling in the 4x4 around the dirt tracks on some of the areas. So if you do suffer with motion sickness, I would recommend you take some medication.

Guide & driver were brilliant. Tui staff at hotel, when we booked the tour, didnt tell us that we wouldnt see the Blue Eye due to the time of year & they also said the 4 x 4 was air conditioned & it wasnt.

C'è stato qualche problema con la prenotazione ed il primo giorno non ci hanno portato per una incomprensione con l'autista.. Questo ha causato un cambio di piani, ma é stato risolto con sufficiente trasparenza. Il tour é carino, ma dovete sapere che il pomeriggio non é possibile vedere il fenomeno del Blue Eye, e che il trasporto sulla panca del 4x4 non é adatto a persone con ridotta mobilità. La Sailna ed il villaggio dei pescatori valgono la visita, il prezzo é adeguato e comprende i bigliett

Lucy the guide was really wonderful. The tour was composed of 5 stops: 1st stop really nice small village, 2ns stop on the capital was no added value and too long, 3rd stop useless, you know in advance at what time you see the blue eye and you should rather adapt the time of the visit accordingly, fortunately we reduced the stop time, 4rd stop the mirage was very nice and we stayed the right time, i.e. very short, 5th stop the salty lake was wonderful! And the time was ok.

Helaas werd ik in de ochtend ziek maar ik zei tegen mijn vrouw om toch te vertrekken! Ze had een hele toffe namiddag! Enkel een tip om een lokaal winkeltje te bezoeken voor sigaretten en souveniertjes. Diegene nu waren wel aan de duurdere kant tgo we aan het strand hebben gekocht. Het zou natuurlijk fijn zijn moest mijn ticket terug betaald worden.

Die Tour an sich war i.o., die Stops waren zeitweise recht kurz, die Guide Informationen klangen ziemlich emotionslos runtergespult, die Touri-Führerin hat sich weitgehend lautstark in Landessprache mit dem Fahrer unterhalten. Die Informationen über Land und Leute beinhalteten im wesentlichen deren spärlichen Verdienst/Einkommen (mit dem Ziel, mehr dafür lockerzumachen??)

Der Reiseleiter hat alles sehr gut erklärt. Beim Besuch des blauen Auges haben wir erfahren dass dies nur um die Mittagszeit zu sehen ist da dies von der Sonneneinstrahlung abhängt. Würde Tour deshalb am Morgen empfehlen

Prima tour met uitstekende gids ook al was hij Engels. Nederlands was bezet. We hadden alleen pech met de blue eye, zon stond net niet op hoogste punt.

Stef & George were both very helpful, helping us in and out the truck being elderly. Very nice young men. Stef was brilliant with his knowledge which was very enjoyable. He knew a lot as lived on the island since he moved as a young boy. We even got to see a whale jumping and playing which was an added bonus. The trip was really knowledgeable of rhe island. Nice to get out for the afternoon from the hotel.

Enjoyed the trip. Both Stef and George were fab guides and knowledgable . We learnt a lot about the history of Cape Verde and their communities. The salt lake is both an amazing and weird experience that we would recommend to anyone

Such a lot packed into 4 hours. Stephan the guide was very knowledgeable and also able to answer all our questions. Our driver Marcio was also excellent. A very good excursion and really glad we did it. Arriving back at 1200 meant we also had the afternoon.

Unser Guide Bruna hat uns auf ihre charmante, fröhliche, mit viel hintergrundwissende Art die interessante Insel Sal nähergebracht! Der Fahrer war trotz der teilweise schwierigen Straßenverhältnisse sehr umsichtig und professionell!
