This tour to the northern part of Cyprus flits through multiple layers of history – ancient, medieval and the 1970s. The stars of the show are the ruins of the classical city of Salamis and the old town of Famagusta, plus the ‘ghost town' of Varosha. Stavroula, one of our expert local guides, says, "the Famagusta area is rich in treasures from antiquity to the Middle Ages and beyond. According to local lore, people were so wealthy in medieval times that they built 365 churches to praise God each day for their lifestyle of ease and plenty."Your adventure starts in Salamis, a city founded in classical times that served as the capital of Cyprus for over a thousand years. Here, you'll explore the ancient roads and ruined temples that once thronged with people in this busy metropolis. The partially restored amphitheatre is a must-see, providing a glimpse into the past when performances and festivals were held here. Next, you'll head to the 5th century Monastery of St Barnabas, where you'll visit its icon museum with examples dating back to the Byzantine period.Next, there's a short guided walk through the haunting former seaside town of Varosha where time has stood still for decades. This once popular beach resort has lain abandoned for over 50 years. After free time for lunch, you'll explore Famagusta, a city that was once one of the wealthiest in the Mediterranean. Your guide will show you sights such as the Venetian castle and the Gothic cathedral-turned mosque.

Just so you know, because of local restrictions at Strovillia checkpoint, only passport holders from EU member states, the UK, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland can travel to and from the northern part of Cyprus
Please note, single parent families or those travelling without both parents need to provide extra documentation for anyone under the age of 18 when travelling into the north of Cyprus. This includes a 'letter of authorisation' from the missing parent, as well as supporting documents including birth certificate of the child, passport copy of the missing parent or a copy of a court order. Templates of these letters are readily available on search engines however we recommend you consult a lawyer prior to travelling on holiday

Der Guide war zuvorkommend und freundlich. Vermittelte viel geschichtliches Wissen. Leider öfters schwer verständlich. Er hat viel historisches erzählt, weniger über das Land wie es heute ist. Die Ausgrabungen im griechischen Teil waren gepflegter. Varoscha ist trotz der geschichtlichen Tragödie eine Besichtigung wert. Die Fahrstrecke im großen Reisebus war kurzweilig.

Es war ein toller Ausflug und in dem Sperrgebiet könnte mehr Zeit, vielleicht auch mit Baden eingeplant werden. Dieses würde ich am Anfang der Reise Vormittags durchführen.

Opas kertoi paljon (jopa ehkä liian pitkä tarina omaan makuuni, jaksoi kuunnella noin puolet, ala-asteikäiset eivät jaksaneet sitäkään, en suosittelisi lapsiperheelle matkaa, yleisesti aikuisille mielekkäämpi). Retkipäivämme olivat liian kuumia kyseiselle retkelle, ei siis hellekohde. Kohteet lähellä toisiaan, bussissa hyvä ilmastointi, auttoi hieman jaksamaan paremmin.

Excellent tour if I had any complaints it was the length of time we stood in the red hot sun ( suncream on hats on and water as advised ) whilst the tour guide spoke it could be done with whispers as we walked around to hot to stand still other groups were using them I noticed

This is a wonderful experience. A lot of walking & very little shade. The guide was very friendly & spoke in English. A very long day so take an umbrella for shade & if u can take a small travel sit/chair. Would definitely go again

Der türkisch-zypriotische Guide, der beim 2. Checkpoint zustieg hat eine sehr eigenartige undurchsichtige Funktion und erinnert an ex-DDR- Überwachungspersonal und nicht - wie angekündigt als kundiger Reiseführer! :-(

I enjoyed visiting salamis and the ghost town would have preferred more time there rather than 2 hours in Famagusta. Think the trip to the ghost town is rushed needed more time to look around it. Don’t feel it was worth my time and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It’s not as it’s sold to you and has put me off booking another TUI excursion.

Really good tour and keenly priced. The journeys between each site were short and the length of time in each place was just right. The guide was very knowledgeable and her English was great. If you had mobility issues I would not recommend as there was a lot of walking but if you have no issues go and enjoy the trip.

5 hours sat on a coach out of an 8 hour tour day was both disappointing and tedious. The visit to the ruins was too long as there wasn't a great deal to see. Similarly there wasn't a great deal to see or explore in Famagusta old town although ample time was provided to sit and have a drink and a bite to eat. The highlight of the trip was the visit to the "ghost "town but too little time (circa 1 hour) was set aside to explore the town and understand the events that took place. Disappointing trip

The trip was fully worth the price. The tour guide Stav was incredible, so lovely, funny and informative you could really feel that she loves directing this tour and telling us the rich and sad history about the beautiful island. George the driver was also wonderfully lovely and was also chipping in with thing about the islands history. Overall I would 100% take this tour again and would urge anyone to do it, if you want to understand this beautiful island better this is the trip to do it!

The whole experience was fantastic. Couldn’t have wished for a better guide ( very knowledgeable) and we really learnt what happened. The coach driver was fantastic to. The only reason I gave an 8 for the full day was because sure it was so hot walking round. Think we all started to struggle a little bit

in reality it is not a full day tour, when 4 hours is spent picking up and dropping off, had this been explained at point of purchase probably would not have gone. Driver & Guide were excellent. would be better with a smaller group. Do hope that no payment is made to the Turkish for entry!!!

Sowohl die Reiseleiterin als auch der Busfahrer waren sehr nett. Die Reiseleiterin ist gerne auf weitere Fragen eingegangen und konnte sie zufrieden stellend beantworten. Da man aber insgesamt nur 6 Stunden im besetzten Gebiet verbringt, sind die Stops relativ kurz gehalten (in Famagusta bleibt aber Zeit etwas zu essen). Trotz der kürze konnte ich aber alles auf meiner Liste abhacken und war am Ende des Tages nicht nur sehr zufrieden sonder überwältigt von den Eindrücken.

Guiden talte godt engelsk og virkede seriøst inde i stoffet. Chaufføren kørte super godt. - Sad meget tæt på sæderne i en helt fyldt bus. Sad bag ved meget parfumeret gæst og fik allergisk hovedpine. Guiden ventede ikke altid med at fortælle til alle var fremme; i det hele taget lidt fortravlet.

Der Ausflug war gut, der Reiseleiter Andreas ist ein sehr kluger Mann, aber seine Aussprache extrem undeutlich und daher sehr schlecht zusammenhängend zu verstehen. Im Bus kommen immer nur Wortfetzen an. Schade er weiß so viel und kann es nicht gut rüberbringen

Olga, the tui rep was absolutely brilliant. She was attentive, knowledgeable and so approachable and engaging with the group. The bus driver, apologies for not remembering his name, was polite helpful and drove very diligently and safely. Both of them together made the trip one of the best, wd as a family have ever experienced.

What a great trip to Famagusta and Salamis, the coach arrived on time and was a comfortable modern vehicle with air conditioning. Olga our guide was fantastic, really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Varosha should not be missed and should be seen by all who visit the island.

Loved the historical part of the trip. Didn't realise the ghost city was so politically viewed. Didn't enjoy this part and stayed at the restaurant instead of going on the walk. Thought 2 hours in the city centre was too much. Overall had a lovely trip. Our driver was very friendly. Tour guide grea

The day was very informative and the guide and staff were lovely. We just felt that the Famagusta and Varosha part of the day was rushed and a lot of the time spent in Varosha was talking in one spot in 30 degree heat when most could have been said on the bus or as we were walking around. People were becoming frustrated and the guide didn’t seem to notice. She was very passionate about the subject and we loved all the stories but we would have preferred to see more.

Great Day out Famagusta was a great historical site, salamis was a beautiful town with some great history and places to eat. The ghost town was something different to anything I have ever experienced and it is hard to believe that it is still standing after 52 years. The tour guide we had was the icing on the cake with her knowledge and passion. A tour well worth doing

Vi havde en fantastisk kompetent lokal guide (Stafarolla) som fortalte og forklarede på MEGET tydeligt engelsk om det vi så, hun havde også små finurlige input til det sete, og var hurtig til at tænke i ændringer da vejret ændret sig. Det var tydeligt at hun havde erfaring med turen, hvilket gjorde at den viden vi fik blev endnu større omkring det vi så. Vi vil klart anbefale hende og turen til andre
