Curral das Freiras, a small parish surrounded by steep mountains, is situated in the heart of the island. It is believed that this deep valley was formed either by erosion or volcanic activity. After passing by the church of Santo António, you'll stop at the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint, at 350 metres, where you'll enjoy the magnificent view of Funchal.You'll then proceed through the mountains until you reach Eira do Serrado, from where you'll have an excellent view from 1,094 metres over Curral das Freiras. After visiting Curral das Freiras, you'll then return to Funchal.

Our guide Michael was very good. He was an excellent driver & a very knowledgeable guide. The scenery throughout was spectacular. Took us to two viewing points & then onto the Nuns Valley. We only had half hour at the village so after a quick coffee & comfort break there wasn't much time to look around. Our trip was advertised as four hours in total but was just over three hours. Unfortunately some of the passengers were not dropped back to their hotels where they were picked up from.

Despite being given two separate pick up times 30 mins apart, from two different sources, via phone and text / email, the driver saved this from being given a much worse vote. An enjoyable run out nonetheless with some spectacular views

Am Morgen vergeblich auf vereinbarte Abholung gewartet, nach Anruf beim Anbieter wurde Teilnahme am Nachmittag angeboten, Abholung erfolgte dann deutlich verspätet; Fahrzeug in keinem guten Zustand, unbequem; Fahrer / Guide sehr freundlich und bemüht, wirkte gleichzeitig gestresst; Fahrweise auf Serpentinenstraßen und innerorts zu forsch; an Aussichtspunkten und während der Fahrt nur die nötigsten Infos, während der kurzen Spaziergänge zu den Aussichtspunkten und im Dorf blieb der Guide am Wagen

Enjoyed the whole experience. Benjamin the driver, had a very good knowledge and had great customer service skills. The stop at the viewpoint on the way gave a great view of Funchal. The view of the Nuns valley from the viewpoint is truly breath taking. It is a personal favourite of:mine now. Even the journey to and from the valley is spectacular. Thanks Benjamin for a great: Sunday morning experience and recommendation of where to get coffee in the village.

Zeer vriendelijke gids, gaf goede uitleg. Enige grote minpunt was de bus waar je als sardienen werd ingepropt. Mijn echtgenoot en zoon zijn beiden 1.95 m lang, beenruimte was gewoon onvoldoende. Zelfs ik (1.74m) zat gekneld met knieën tegen zetel. Knieën zagen blauw na het uitstappen.

Patrick was a fantastic driver/guide. Excellent knowledge, describing the area and historic facts while still navigating switchback roads and traffic. Stunning scenery throughout, very enjoyable.

The actual tour was good, Nuns Valley is stunning and the drive up along the mountain roads is great fun if you like steep and winding roads. However the actual tour was non-existent. The driver almost totally ignored us and just spoke to a group that spoke Portuguese. He may have been doing an actual tour but we have no idea. We may have well just got a taxi up there rather than paying out money for a guided tour.

The best point is walking up to the viewpoint above Nun's Valley. The views are amazing of the valley below and the mountain peaks. I think the trip could be improved by allowing more time in the village within Nun's Valley that was included in the trip itinerary. This would allow time to visit the museum which we were not able to do because of time restraints.

The guide (I think his name was Alberto?) was incredible - he held the tour in English, German and French, as not everybody spoke English. The tour itself was okay, it is important to know that it is NOT a walking tour but with a mini-bus. The view from the miradouros were incredible, the village nuns-valley however is not very intersting. It's a good tour if you don't have a car and want to know a bit about the island.

Excellent trip. Cheerful knowledgeable guide/driver. Prompt pickup. Plenty of time to see the views, have a coffee and take photos. At no time rushed. Only eight on the trip, four couples so only four pickups and drop offs, reducing the times travelling from one hotel to another. So increased time to see the fabulous views. As a result a perfect half day trip to leave the rest of the day to do something else.

Der Guide hat gut englisch gesprochen, deutlich und langsam, sodass wir ihn gut verstanden haben. Mit kleinen Witzen und Annekdoten hat er die erzählten Fakten deutlich interessanter geschildert. Sehr empfehlenswert!!!

Die Tour ging eher 2 Stunden anstatt 4 Stunden. Es wurde nicht viel erzählt und man wurde nur von Touri-Punkt zum nächsten gefahren. Schöne Aussicht in das Tal. Aber Preis-Leistung passt nickt zusammen. Zudem wird man nicht herumgeführt sondern nur von Punkt zu Punkt gefahren und dann alleine gelassen. Buchung sehr einfach und Abholung vor dem Hotel auch. Tour ist nicht zum empfehlen.
