Imagine a place where the sands of the desert have been touched by the magic of Hollywood stardust. You've found it with this two-day tour, which'll show you some of Tunisia's most famous film locations. You'll visit a Roman amphitheatre, explore underground cave houses, cross a vast salt lake and discover a secluded oasis at the fringes of the Sahara. Hamdi, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Between Matmata and Douz, there are endless “ergs” – sand dunes – in the restless desert. This desert is not a dead entity, it's even cultivated in places by those who inhabit it. The sands come alive according to the seasons.'Embark on your sandy adventure at El Jem Colosseum. This ancient Roman theatre would seat an audience of 35,000, entertained by gladiatorial fights and chariot races. You'll then head to Matmata, where you'll have lunch and visit the rock-cut cave homes that starred in two Star Wars films. Finish the day in the oasis town of Douz – surrounded with date palms – for an overnight stay. This is a great spot to take an optional camel or carriage ride in the desert.After breakfast, you'll cross Chott el Djerid, a mirage-filled salt lake, before jumping into a 4x4 for a ride to Onk Jemal, where you'll discover the film set city built for Star Wars. After lunch in Gafsa, you'll round off the tour with a photo stop in Kairouan, a great place to take lots of Instagram-worthy pictures of the intricately decorated Islamic architecture that the town is known for. Coliseum was amazing. Not enough time at the Luke Skywalker house. Mos Eisley is falling apart. No water supplied on the trip. 4X4 dessert safari was basically a drive on hard sand with 5 mins of driving over sand dunes which was the fun part!!

It was one of our favourite trips ever! The guide Mohammed was so knowledgeable and fun too. He kept us safe and told us so much about the country and also what to buy and what to avoid. The hotel in Douz was lovely with great buffet food. The experiences were brilliant: camel riding, 4by4 trip in desert, visit to El Jem and Kairouan, sunrise at the salt lake. Early starts and long coach journeys but broken up with lots of stops at cafes and small towns. So interesting and fun too.

Amor (driver) and Hamadi (guide) were excellent. There was a lot of driving and it was smooth and comfortable. Hamadi knows his stuff and had everyone where they needed to be on time. The Sahara sunrise was a good example. We ended up in a great spot just as the sun came up. El Jem was great, as we were there early it was not crowded. The children loved the 4x4 trip into the desert. Lots of fun. The Star Wars set in the desert (Mos Eisley) could do with a bit of work. It would be worth it

More A/C in the coach,a better coach tbh for such a long journey.The overnight hotel was a bit fawty towers.And tell people cash is essential at the hotel and camel ride.I'm not moaning had a fantastic trip 👍

Busfahrer sehr nett und gesprächig. Leute sehr freundlich, Essen gut. Hotel nur 3 Sterne, uns wurden 4 Sterne versprochen. Zimmer waren verranzt, Überdecke und Deko Kissen dreckig. Aber Heizung hat sehr gut funktioniert. Versprochen war der Sternenhimmel in der Wüste, den haben wir nicht gezeigt bekommen. Am besten war Sonnenaufgang am Salzsee, aber es war viel zu wenig Zeit. Dafür hätte man andere Stops kürzen können. Toiletten unterwegs waren großteils sauber, ausreichend Pausen.

Really enjoyed the 4 x 4 experience and the camel ride (camel ride was extra but worth it). There is alot of distance covered on the coach but we were expecting that. Very early starts but again we were aware and it was so worth it to see the sunrise over the salt lake. Very well organised trip.

Overall review is that I thought it was good, however there is a few additional fees like the cameral ride or horsee ride in douz requires 50 dinir and feels like you are al most required to tip. This was great fun tho and a good experience for an hour camel ride. Bring lots of money. The tour guide was very informative and recommended wheres the cheapest places and best to buy certain items. Both star wars scenes where very run down and especially the Town hotel rooms are very dated and uncomfy

Der Ausflug war sehr schön und anstrengend. Es gibt viel zu sehen. Zu kritisieren ist lediglich das Hotel im welchen die Übernachtung stattfand. Das ist absolut abgewohnt und entspricht keinem Standard mehr. Trinkgelder werden erwartet, was aber niemanden verwundern sollte.

Too long on bus to/from places, roman theater was a let down, full of pigeons, Star Wars aspects were both dated/tacky, lunch on both days cold, overnight hotel basic, not 4*, cold food, gap round bedroom door, dark room, no safe, rude staff, jeep safari fun but the jeep seen better days, broken headrest, broken seatbelt, drivers mirror held together with tape, seats dusty and cramped, went to salt lake but lake was dry, went to mosque but it was closed, lots of time spent on coffee/toilet stop

This trip, although quite long, was extremely good value for money. Ehmed our guide and Armour our driver were both lovely, friendly, informative people who made the trip very enjoyable. They were always in extremely good spirits despite the early starts and observance of Ramadan during our trip.

Excellent trip of many Tunisian highlights, well organised and efficient. Some long drives in a comfortable bus enjoying interesting scenery, plus a jeep safari in the desert. Lovely desert scenery, fascinating Berber villages, and stunning photo ops at El Jem and Kairouan. Guide and driver very good. Although a busy trip, we had enough time everywhere. Bring a scarf or face covering for the desert, and remember nights can be cold in the desert. The food and accommodation are fine.

Note: 4: Enttäuschend. Die Sahara ist beeindruckend, die Tour nicht. Unterkunft kalt, veraltet und unsauber – nach langen Fahrtzeiten unzumutbar. Ständig Zusatzkosten: Programmpunkte extra, Einzelzimmerzuschlag, erneut Touristensteuer, permanenter Trinkgeld-Druck. Verständnis für die Lage vor Ort ja, aber ich kann nicht überall zahlen. Unbedingt Getränke mitnehmen, Stopps sind rar. Deutsche Tour gebucht, überwiegend Englisch. Einziger Pluspunkt: Fahrer & Reiseleiter Note 1.

The 2 day tour was great. Excellent guide and driver. The only slightly negative comments would be the hotels used as an overnight stay and lunch on day 2 were not great. Very cold rooms in the sun palm oasis hotel. Otherwise it was excellent.

The trip over all was good coach journey there a back was a bit uncomfortable for leg room good job they stopped for breaks every few hours . Over all very interesting trip . People need to be reminded to take cash as a few people did not and made there trip less fun as you do have to pay for things along the way .

De reis was fenomenaal! Op tijd koffie en toilet, programma uitstekend. Lunch in grot was perfect, in laatste hotel minder namelijk koude waterige soep, we ontbijt l lekker stuk vlees, desert was een sinaasappel.. De kamelentocht en ook met wagentje was veel te vol en te luidruchtig. Heb dit vroeger met kleine groep gedaan, dat was bijna sereen... De woestijntocht was PERFECT, score 300% Slaapkamer was ok, bed en kamer prima, avondmaal koud en acceptabel..ontbijt ok

The overall tour was excellent and the guid very informative throughout. On the negative side. Very early starts (04:00) leading to long days which isn't mentioned when booking. Also with a full coach it does seem very cramped when travelling to and between the sites and stops, some of which are over 3 hours.

Must-do excursion when in Tunisia. The long time on the bus is worth the different visits. Amount of free time at different locations is sufficient. Wonderful guide and bus driver ! Pleasant 2-day visit ! Some points for improvements. Lunch on 2nd day in “so-called” 5-star hotel was far from good and staff was not friendly. Hotel for the night was also outdated and heating was broken (we had to wait too long for a fix).

It was a fantastic trip. The guide DALI was very friendly and was excellent in communicating. I learned from him a lot about Tunisian history. It is worth to make it again. I suggest to plan the trip over 3 days instead of 2.

Die Tour war stressig, aber das war es durchaus wert. Der Reisebegleiter war perfekt, besser geht's kaum. Er hat alle Fragen beantwortet und hat sich Zeit genommen. Das Wüstenhotel ist nicht unbedingt empfehlenswert. Das Personal unfreundlich und lässt es jeden Spüren, das wir nur 1 Nacht Touristen waren. Ansonsten echt perfekt.

We enjoyed the 4x4 and the colosseum. We felt let down by all of the rest. The guide charged us 124DT for the hotel and we could did not have enough left for the camel ride. On the second day the "Instagram worthy photo opportunity" in your information did not happen, and we had a shown the outside of the mosque before being wisked away to a shop and for 30 mins , some of the guests didn't even get of the bus as they were so disappointed. Then a 3 hour back.I will be complaining to yourselves

The tour was fantastic and incredibly good value. The add on of the camel ride for a few extra pounds was incredible. The hotel for the overnight stay was very basic, but everything worked. The only complaint I would have was that at the hotel non of the food was labelled at either dinner or breakfast, meaning it was very difficult to tell what you were getting. As someone with dietary preferences, this was really not acceptable.

Die Zeit, die wir an manchen Orten hatten, war etwas knapp bemessen, um sie eingehender zu erleben. Gerade in der Wüste ging es mir zu schnell weiter. 1200 km in zwei Tagen ist schon eine gewaltige Strecke und dementsprechend erschöpfend. Für die Sandwüste reicht es in 2 Tagen nicht und eine Übernachtung in einer Höhle in Matmata wird nicht mehr angeboten, schade. Der Reiseführer (Herr Mohamed) ist sehr kompetent, freundlich und immer ansprechbar. Er kümmert sich sehr um das Wohl der Gäste.

Wir (3 Erwachsene) fanden das Kolosseum und die Erlebnisse in der Wüste (Jeepfahrt/Dünen, Starwars-Dorf, Kamelritt, Sonnenuntergan/-aufgang) am besten. Hotel und Verpflegung waren gut und angemessen. Der erste Starwarshalt ist etwas eingeschränkt begeisternd, da gefühlt etwas konstruiert - zum Glück gibt's aber den zweiten. Die Fahrt ist mit 1.200km natürlich lang und fordert einen, dafür hat man aber bleibende Erinnerungen. Das Programm ist insgesamt gut abgestimmt.

Wir haben mit Kind mehr im Bus gesessen als alles andere Einziges Highlight war das Kamelreiten und die Safari mit dem Jeep. Der Übernachtungsstop im Hotel war so naja, wir hatten kein warm Wasser im Hotel zum Duschen und das war sehr ärgerlich

The bus journey was very long - nothing in the advert suggested 8 hours each day on a bus, so just be honest about that. Some stops were very short - 20 minutes at the mosque for a quick peek inside from a rooftop, but no opportunity to go inside or walk around. Children under 12 should not be allowed on the trip, as it’s not suitable for them. We had multiple children 2-4 years old constantly crying on the bus, which was not pleasant.

The TUI rep was not aware of the updated price of the optional camel ride. We would have appreciated more information at the Colosseum and at the Mosque. I would have appreciate a heads-up of the long time to be spent in the bus. The accomodation was poorly with no indication of what food was served or if it was spicy or not and the waiters were rather unfriendly. tlThe overall experience was nice!

This was a fantastic experience. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Definitely worth the money. We came in with low expectations and this adventure exceeded it and made our holiday special. The one improvement we agreed on is providing the guests with a programme so we have an idea what is taken place at each time. But apart from that it was all good. The tour guide was excellent & did a really good job.

The trip was lovely however sitting on a coach 12 hours there and 14 hours back was too long and I think it might be better if you pre warn people so they can ensure that they got plenty of snacks and drink beforehand. Throughly enjoyed stops apart from the last day lunch as the food wasn’t very pleasant .

Trip overall was excellent. Would have liked more time on the Sahara in the jeeps. Felt the star wars set was a bit of a let down as it was beginning to fall to pieces. The overnight hotel was not very nice and the food was not good at all, drinks were very expensive. The stop for lunch on day 2 was not good at all. It would also have been helpful if we had been told at the last stop on the bus on day 1 was the last place you are able to get cash as cash was all you could use on trip.

Overall the trip was good. The guide and driver excellent. We were disappointed at the accommodation for the overnight stay broken and sharp shower screen. We never got to see the sunrise as promised as we were driving. The star was set was fantastic. I don't think that if we have already paid to be all inclusive we should have to pay for drinks. They could over at least one complimentary.

Gisteravond terug gekomen van de tweedaagse Saharaexcursie. We hebben erg van deze excursie genoten. Vooral het rijden op kamelen door de Sahara bij zonsondergang was echt onvergetelijk. Ook de rit in de jeeps door de zoutvlakte was geweldig. Het waren wel twee erg vermoeiende dagen door de lange busrit, maar dat zullen we waarschijnlijk snel vergeten.

De tour was indrukwekkend door de kameelrit en de Star Wars-locaties, maar verder viel het erg tegen. De kameel kost €15 extra, terwijl de jeep en zoutmeer gratis zijn. Je zit vooral lange uren in de bus, waardoor het erg vermoeiend is. De route gaat door sterk vervuilde gebieden vol plastic. Overnachting en lunch waren slecht: koud eten, vieze borden en een verouderd hotel met onvriendelijk personeel. Het eten was pittig en drinken moest apart betaald worden.

Guide and overall trip was very good, overnight hotel disappointing the bathroom was very poor, exposed pipes under basin filthy, shower not attached to wall,bath and surrounding area rusty and stained.

The amount of time on the coach was a bit long even though we stopped every 1 to 2 hrs for a toilet break and drink. It was a shame we missed the sunset on the camels as we was early. The hotel for overnight stay was good and food was alright. The 4x4 to see where star wars was filmed was really good. Felt safe shame there wasn’t more going up and down the dunes on way back. Loved it though.

the hotel used was below expected standards, no running water and cash only. Would have preferred for all to have slept in tents to experience the night sky in Sahara, which was a selling point from our TUI rep. We never got an opportunity to gaze upon the night sky with no light backdrop due to timing of schedule and hotel drop off.

I am a long term Star Wars fan so I looking forward to seeing and experiencing the film locations and Star Wars associated events. Unfortunately the main attraction of Luke's house was for some reason not part of the tour. I now have a claim for compensation from the TUI customer services for the contract entered on paying for the trip not being fulfilled. All in all the trip was good but the fact the main attraction was omitted is truly disappointing.

Es haben Kinder im Kinderwagen teilgenommen! Die Zeit bei den Sehenswürdigkeiten war stark begrenzt da Kaufangebote bei den Pausen forciert wurden, es wirkte wie eine Kaffeefahrt wo einem dauernd irgendwelche Waren angeboten wurden was am 2. Tag in einer Teppichhandlung Gipfelte! Das Hotel war heruntergekommen und das Personal unfreundlich! Sogar wähdes Kamelritts hat man übelst versucht Waren zu verkaufen usw.

Great trip,a lot fitted in,the only downside was the toilet facilities on travels,some left a lot to be desired but we understand that is somewhat out of your control! It’s a busy two days but well worth it to see Tunisia in two days and great value.

Guide und Fahrer waren sehr höflich und kompetent. Das Hotel in der Wüste sowie die beiden Mittagessen waren in Ordnung, das Kolosseum und Jeep-Safari auch. Der Kamel-Ritt war sehr enttäuschend, vom Reiseleiter beworben wurde ‚eine Stunde bei Sonnenuntergang in der Sandwüste‘, die Runde hätte ohne ständige Pausen aber höchstens 30 Min gedauert, dazwischen sind Quads gefahren, und Sonnenuntergang war erst eine Stunde später. Leider teils aufdringliche Angebote, Tierbabys zu streicheln/füttern.

Very early start both days but needed and worth it for the sunrise on the second day. It's a long journey 1300 kms/812mls there and back,the food was okay and plenty of rest breaks.really enjoyed the camel ride at the end of day one.the overnight stay at the hotel was okay,basic room ,food okay very friendly staff.very early start on the second day,3.30am but great to see the sunrise over the Sahara.. the 4x4 ride across the Sahara was brilliant. overall a great trip.

Was really excited about seeing Luke Skywalkers home, this is not part of the experience, you see Tatooine but Luke’s home is not there. The 4x4 experience is not advertised as off roading in the desert, awful. The stops all felt quite rushed, El Jem you have an hour, now keep in mind you’ve been up since 4am it’s 8:30 and you are hungry, as breakfast isn’t included, it’s not enough time to view el jem and find something to eat, the bus is long. 600km each day. Hotel was awful, dated and dirty.

Overall we had a fantastic time however we would liked more time at the colosseum We were not made aware of the length of time we would be on the bus From being picked up at 5.30 we didn’t get to the hotel until 7pm. Was told the camel ride would be at sunset it wasn’t on day 2 day started at 4am And not back to our hotel until 6.30pm Would have preferred to go to salt lake then the jeep drive and then come straight back The stop to look at the carpets was in our opinion a waste of time

The bus was very uncomfortable. For spending long hours in a bus where you will have to sleep ( because we all woke up very early 4 am both days) this bus had no space for the my legs.

The food and accommodation throughout this trip was really average or below - needs a re-think. Stopping at the side of the road on day 2 to see the sunset was not quite the romantic ‘see the sunrise over the salt lakes’ that you imagine. The camel and jeep safaris were excellent. The guide was informative generally though an hour at El Jem exploring with no guide (at what is a poorly-maintained historical attraction) was not great. Without information, suggest limiting this to 30 mins.

L’excursion était génial , notre famille a adoré, les explications du guide étaient clair , le chauffeur très professionnel. Seul petit bémol pour notre part est que le bus n’était pas très confortable pour faire autant de route , et pas de quoi charger les téléphones, donc certains moment visiter n’ont pas plus être immortalisé.

Die 2 Tage Tour war klasse, sehr viele Informationen rund um Land und Leute. Die Foto Stops waren super. Das Berberhaus hat mir nicht so gefallen, aber ich denke der Reiseführer musste das anfahren weil vor den anderen Häusern bereits 3 Busse standen und damit es sich besser verteilt haben wir uns eben dieses angeschaut. Grundsätzlich habe ich einen Eindruck bekommen wie die Berberfamilien früher dort gelebt haben. Zur Übernachtung hätte ich mir ein 4 Sterne Hotel gewünscht, ansonsten TOP

Amazing experience from start to finish. Felt very safe going by myself. Tui rep, Hamdi, and driver did an amazing job. Just one thing! Last evening at Golden Yasmin Hotel. In the restaurant, one of the young waiters was putting money into his pocket when guests paid him directly. Could have been tips. There were no prices shown for drinks. He attempted to charge me 60 TD for 1 bottle of white wine and 1bottle of water. But when queried, he dropped the cost to 54/55 TD.
