When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the sister cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum were frozen in time. More than 1,600 years passed before they were rediscovered, and today they're undoubtedly two of the world's greatest archaeological sites. Andrea, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Pompeii and Herculaneum may have shared the same fate under the ashes of Mount Vesuvius, but they offer two distinct glimpses into ancient Roman life. While Pompeii was a bustling commercial centre, Herculaneum was a refined seaside retreat for the wealthy.'Buried by volcanic debris, these UNESCO-listed sites offer a fascinating and at times haunting insight into ancient Roman life. First up, your guide will lead you through the streets of Pompeii and show you the richly decorated villas of the Roman upper classes as well as public spaces such as the Forum. See the remains of temples and villas and stroll along cobbled streets still rutted from Roman carts.Then, after lunch, we'll head to the archaeological site of Herculaneum. Andrea says, ‘Walking through Pompeii is like stepping into a busy city of the past, with its grand public buildings and lively streets, while exploring Herculaneum feels like strolling through a luxurious private estate, with lavish villas and intricate mosaics, boat houses and marble floors.' Following your guide through the ancient town, you'll learn about the tragic demise of Herculaneum, destroyed by a fast-moving pyroclastic flow of hot gas and volcanic mud.

Visites très bien. Je trouve qu'avec la technologie actuelle, des traducteurs adaptés seraient nettement mieux.Tout le monde ne comprend oas l'anglais . J'ai déjà pu profiter d'un traducteur ( oreillette) en Espagne notamment. C'est quand même mieux. Surtout quand le guide nous propose de descendre voir les squelettes., ne nous accompagne pas et qu on n'a pas compris qu'il fallait tout remonter. Lunch basique, 10 accras pour 4(?), pas de pain. Sinon, Martina très bien.

Great trip, we picked the first Sunday of the month as it is free entry so this comes at a reduced price. However any other date we would have paid full adult price for our 14 year old son despite free entry to both sites for children. tui make no price reduction on this trip for teens despite the free entry. Very good guide, would have liked longer in Pompeii - it’s huge. Herculaneum is worth a visit. Lovely 3 course lunch and soft drink or beer, choice or pizza or pasta.

Raphael, our tour guide was knowledgeable. He made sure everyone in our group was looked after with his walking speed. Lunch was delicious. Bus driver was 10 out of 10 ( considering the Italian way of driving)

Pompeii wasnt that impressive but the guide Hugo took is around the Herculaneum which blew my mind! This was much smaller and more accessible and better preserved. The buses and extra transfers to our hotel were on time and we'll arranged. Guides were good. It felt like Pompeii would have worked better without a guide in some ways. The worst part was the food/meal. The quality wasn't that good in general. But also for my wife who is celiac, the gluten free options basically just meant less food!

Absolutely amazing day, our guide, Dana I think her name was. Probably not how you spell it but she was lovely, very knowledgeable and just generally upbeat and enthusiastic despite the absolutely scorching weather. Hugo, our guide at Herculaneum was also fantastic and you could tell he was passionate about what he was telling us about. The lunch was lovely and the air con was even lovelier. Our driver was brilliant got us there safely and him selling water was very convenient. Needed free time.

Loved the whole day. Guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much information from start to finish as well as ensuring everything ran perfectly to time throughout the day. Lunch at Ristorante Tiberius, Pompeii was beautiful and served without any delay ensuring we were able to depart in time for the afternoon visit to Herculaneum. If I could change anything it would be the headsets, they weren’t the most comfortable and would fall off my ear if I looked up. Overall, a brilliant day.

Pick ups fine, minibus and driver fine. Guide excellent - funny and very informative. Lunch very poor. Staff surly, food average at best. Wife and I both had upset stomachs which we put down to the food served there.

The trip itself was really good and very well organised. The coach driver and tour guide were really good and looked after us. The time we spent in Pompeii and Herculaneum was really good, we were provided with a 3 course meal at a hotel local to Pompeii, the food and service was fantastic. The only thing I felt let down by was the price we paid… the TUi rep charged us 153 euros each, however on the App it was £101 each, which was considerable cheaper. I recommend booking via the app!

It was a very long day and extremely busy with tour operators/tourists so slightly difficult in having to wait to see certain things but the tour itself was interesting and the guide informative but be prepared for 100s of people. Maybe more variety of gifts to buy to bring back home and at a reasonable price. Water stations could also be set up as it was so hot as you can only carry so many bottles!

We enjoyed the fact that the guide tailored the tour to take into account both sites and was extremely knowledgable about both sites - she was interesting and made the tour fun and informative. We really enjoyed the lunch and thought the location and food was great. We would definitely recommend this.

We were looking forward to going back to Pompei and Herculaneum, but we were in Italy during a heatwave so decided that an archaeological dig wasn't the best place to be in 40 degree heat. We knew that we had left it too late to cancel and get a refund, but we were unable to cancel at all, and the tour guide still thought we would be attending. There should be some way to cancel even after the full refund period has passed.

Lunch was miserable, appetiser looked like a mis match of food the restaurant had left, the main was much the same and the dessert was a piece of tasteless cake two bites big…….huge disappointment, it was so obvious that it had been the cheapest option they could provide despite the tour being quite expensive.

Very knowledgeable guides who took us to the most interesting parts of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Lunch was really well organised and the service, excellent. My only moan was that the pick up was a good 20 minute walk from my hotel along a busy, narrow road with no footpath in parts.

Very repetitious and no ability to take a break from the heat, at the end of the Pompeii tour there is a museum, I only know that because my wife stopped to use the toilet next to it and I had a Quick Look inside but then catch my party up as they were of to the lunch stop,why is this interesting place not part of the visit,it free to enter.The guide was quick to point out that entry to Pompeii and Herculaneum is free on the 1st Sunday of the month, but the price of the trip remained the same

Overall, the trip was well organised and food was great. Transport was excellent too. I think, for us, half day would have been better as we had a very hot day. It felt a bit repetitive doing both Pompeii & Herculaneum in a day so by time we got to Herculaneum in afternoon, we were too hot & tired to do anymore. We’ve combined Pompeii with Vesuvius in the past and preferred this trip, however this too would have been difficult with the extreme heat we had on this day.

The first part of the tour, Pompeii and lunch were good, Herculaneum however was disappointing. The reason being, one of the guests had a medical issue late morning. The guest did not attend the Herculaneum tour however our tour guide had to manage the medical logistics which took place during the Herculaneum tour, constant phone calls were taken with the guided tour communication on were transmitted to the group and impacted the tour and the guide herself. We debriefed our TUI rep at the hotel.

Tour overall was good. Guide was rushing us, tended to wait for few people to get to her then set off at a pace, not waiting for the rest of us to catch up. So even tho we had headsets, by the time we didnt get the comentary for the right place. She had no "people" skills as some of us were slower in the heat and when asked about somewhere to rest she basically ignored us

Had a great guide in Martina. It was incredibly hot but so incredibly amazing, it takes your breath away and blows your mind with what has been achieved with the excavations. To see that a new village has been built on top of the ruins at Herculeum is hard to get your head around. You can’t visit Sorrento without viewing these two places. Great lunch provided too

Having done the experience before we expected to see as much of pompeii as we did on the previous visit. The guide wasn't as good and we only saw fraction of the site. The lunch was way below standard. The starter was way too hard for anyone to attempt to eat. The main was slopped on to plates and was inedible and was very rushed. They didn't want us there. Our visit in the afternoon to Herculaneum was much better.

Our guide was excellent, extremely knowledgeable and very clear with information and instructions. Driver was excellent. An extremely enjoyable experience, I would recommend this trip. Food was very enjoyable. Temperature extremely hot, which obviously can’t be avoided.

Really great day, lovely lunch, guides were very informative and helpful. Maybe would have liked to see more of pompeii but I understand it's hard to fit it all in in 2 hours. It was a good taster and if you go yourself you could probably spend a whole day there but then you could be wandering amelessly all day, the guides made sure you seen the main areas. My only minor gripe was I think the cost maybe a bit excessive in all we paid over 250 euros for 2 of us.

Our lady guide (sorry cannot remember her name) was not only excellent but obviously had a genuine interest in the history of both sites and was exceptionally knowledgeable. we had two hours at each site - i personally would have liked longer (my wife would have liked less!!) BUT to fit both sites and lunch in - i understand why . i do recommend this trip

Everything was excellent, our guide, Desiree, was absolutely brilliant she clearly has a great passion for her work. She gave us loads of information and answered all our questions, full of knowledgeon her subject and really lovely to everyone. The lunch was great and the staff helpful with those that needed a change in menu, nothing was too much trouble. We felt safe in the hands of our driver which is not easy on the Sorrento roads!

The tour guide (Desiderio, I think), was absolutely brilliant. She brought Pompeii and Herculaneum to life. It was the little bits of information that she gave us that made all the difference as we wouldn’t have been aware of those had we made our own way there. As a group we were also given access to the new excavations that were so impressive.

He was friendly, polite, funny and most importantly knowledgeable We would have liked to have seen more of Pompeii but time constraints left us wanting more. Walking tours move at the slowest person’s speed, so leaves fitter people a little frustrated….it didn’t take much away from the tour though as it was still very enjoyable

Two guided tours in one day is maybe a bit much in one day, especially in the heat. We had to cut the Herculaneum tour shirt & seek shade to sit down. Not the guides fault, he was very good. We later found out that he did not include the Artifacts museum on site, during his tour. We made our own way there & enjoyed it, but the rest of our group missed out. It is a very good option as, besides being interesting, it is air conditioned. A welcome bit of respite on a blistering hot day.

Our guide was excellent she looked after us all very well . The coach driver was brilliant expertly driving us safely around the busy narrow roads. The restaurant we stopped at for lunch was lovely the staff very friendly the food was delicious.. it was a fantastic day and we felt all our expectations were met and more .

All good. Attentive professional staff. Roberta was brilliant on the tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Patient with many questions My daughter called me "a teacher's pet!" :D Also a south out for Giulia on the Capri trip. She went out of her way to show us as a family parts of the old town where my wife's artist gt gt uncle had painted there in the 1880s. And also a special mention for Miriam. Just brilliant. A great team.

My first thoughts were that it was a lot to pay for the day .however it was well worth it and the guides were amazing .i was not expecting a 3 course meal which was all set in a lovely room by great staff .

Trip of a lifetime. Unforgettable sights of lived ancient history. Especially enjoyed Herculaneum as the archotecture was so well preserved and the depth of the mudslide surrounding it was so vivid.

Too much in 1 day.Guide in Herculaneum spoke too fast.impossible to take in what she said,exhausting. Fabriano guide on coach and Pompei better but still too much information for general public,we are not taking history exam in subject.Too much walking in heat,dangerous.less of the sight,just important areas. Should have had the map which we all should have been given that was available. Poor lunch. Over priced.

Everything was perfect except lack of toilets!! Long queues in the few around the entrance! For the amount of people there should be toilet blocks!!

Excellent day to tour both sites. Our guide Ralph was extremely knowledgeable and brought each site to life. He provided knowledge about the area on the journey out so we had a good understanding about the history before we reached Pompeii. The local lunch was very good.

Jardar and Jon are expert guides and looked after us very well. Their knowledge and passion shine through and we saw lots more than our previous visit 25 yrs ago??. Lunch was good and male waiters were polite, female member of the team rude and clearly not suited to working in hospitality. Great day out overall.
