What to expect
Spend an evening with a small Mayan community to learn about their lifestyle and traditions on this half-day tour. You'll begin with a tour of the village, before learning how to make tortillas the traditional way. Next, you'll take part in the temazcal ceremony, a sacred purification ceremony which takes place in a volcanic stone steam bath. Then, you'll have time for a nighttime dip in the community cenote, and, to round the evening off, you'll tuck into some traditional Mayan dishes for dinner.

L'activité fut a la hauteur de nos attentes. Problème et pas des moindres, guide ne parlait pas 1 mot de français. Inadmissible !!! Le chauffeur était imprudent et nous a secoué comme des pruneaux !!! Par contre l'immersion dans la communauté Maya, la cérémonie et tout le reste au TOP.

Het was een zeer bijzondere ervaring om deze ceremoniele reiniging te ondergaan. De plek alleen al was een ervaring. In de jungle ver weg van alles een klein maya dorp. Heel intiem allemaal. De gids was zeer enthousiast en ging van vloeiend spaans naar vloeiend engels en hield veel respect voor de maya,s. Ik had deze ervaring niet willen missen

Au départ de l'avion soit le 18/4/26 j'étais en Eco+ les sièges n'étaient pas trop confortables et beaucoup trop serrés, pas beaucoup de place (trop cher pour cette non qualiité). Les films pas récents du tout. L'hôtel beaucoup trop grand 1 km de marche pour aller au restaurant, Qualité des repas pas terribles et non variés, toujours la même chose. L'animation en journée pas terrible non plus toujours les memes activités, aucune variation. Je suis partie seule et je me suis très ennuyée.

Felt a little out of it with our Italian Mexican guide on the cramped van bus journey for 2 hours 10, where we had to pick up from 4 other destinations. No idea of the night ahead. Informed we’d be updated at the base but there were so many nationalities it took 3 times as long to get limited information. The experience was interesting but think there should be more warning for those with chlostrophobia and asthmatic. We returned at midnight 2 hours later than planned, just too late for us.

Ik vond de groep veel te groot. Op elkaar gepropt. We moesten we wel 10x nog dichter op elkaar schuiven. Werd volgende dag dus ook ziek (2 dagen in bed gelegen). Rommelig, ook qua uitleg dat steeds herhaald werd in 4 talen door 4 gidsen, wat veel tijd kostte en dus ook ongeduld veroorzaakte omdat we ook al lang moesten wachten totdat iedereen compleet was. Advies bv muggenspray en fooi vooraf ipv pas onderweg. De vraag of iem een hartaanval heeft gehad is ook beetje laat als je al onderweg bent.

It was overcrowded like 40 plus persons in a small space outside circle and inside for the ritual. People were complaining about no place to stand in...Waiting time from other buses was long... the guide arrived late with another bus so no much time for the historical part, just quickly running to the action...

Abholung im Hotel sehr pünktlich, Fahrt zum Maya-Dorf. Selbstverständlich gibt es hier einen Shop. Dann die Zeremonie in einer Schwitzhütte, es ist ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. anschließendes Nachbaden in der Cenote, ca 15 Minuten. Das traditionelle Essen ist ganz okay. Das Highlight bildet die Zeremonie! Auch wenn es kurz ist, empfehle ich es sehr!

Il y a trop peu de précisions données lors de l'inscription concernant la cérémonie Shaman. Cette cérémonie comprend une partie dans un espace fermé qui, à un moment donné de la cérémonie est fermée par une tenture, faisant office de porte, et tout est complètement sombre. Cela ressemble à 1 forme de sauna et l'obscurité, sans doute nécessaire à la réussite de la celebration est stressante et peut-être effrayante. La dernière partie, baignade en cénote ou période de purification est plus jouable

Bien apprécié les commentaires de notre guide français Jonathan et surtout adoré le temezcal véritable sauna naturel où on perd au moins 2kg !!! Vraiment une expérience difficile à supporter cette énorme étuve mais rafraîchissante après un bon bain dans la ce´note !!

De gids vond dit zelf ook niet de leukste excursie en dat konden we duidelijk merken! De maya mensen zelf deden het top, maar omdat wij geen spaans spreken. Kregen we er weinig van mee. De gids vertaalde het niet voldoende genoeg. Ook werd niet duidelijk vermeld van te voren dat we een sauna in gingen! De Cenote was prachtig, maar mooier bij daglicht dan in het donker. Het was het geld voor ons zeker niet waard en geen aanrader voor anderen!

The experience was amazing, very spiritual with very knowledgable and inspiring guides Oskar and Gabriella. Although shaman spoke Spanish, Gabriella made every effort to keep us included and translated all to English. I have enjoyed every moment of tamazcal ceremony, cenote swim and I bought lovely souvenirs. Dinner with candles felt really connecting to the local people’s culture and we experienced lighting which added deepness into the experience. I just loved it. Thank you for this experience

Tui descriptions on this activity was insufficient. You are seal in a pitch black clay doom with dozens of people while the shamen bring heated rocks and the inclosed space makes it a sauna. You cannot do this activity if you have breathing problems or back problems. Or if you are scared of the dark or crowds. You will also not get the full experience if you cannot swim or stand immence heat. Also the 2-4 hour time scale wrong. It is 4-8 including travel The experience itself is amazing

Une soirée typique à 50 personnes, traduits en 4 langues à chaque explication du shaman ?!!? Nous étions tellement que nous avons fait 2 cercles autour du feu. Rien d’authentique là-dedans. I went with my sister. We waited over an hour to be collected which was disappointing. What we experienced was amazing. We saw how the Myan liives, how they made their food. Shopped in their souvenir shop, however, the best part was taking part in their cultural beliefs. The journey was about 2 hours as we had to make several pickups from hotels, but the evening was amazing and I would recommend this trip. All the reviews were correct. It was a cultural experience to remember.

We spent 4 hours in total in a van for a 120 km drive (both ways together) we paid so much to spent most of the time in a van because you people are so greedy that you don´t want to have more vans available because it costs you more. Then I bought some cobal (from the store in the center) which was of course way overpriced. It was fake! It smells like burned gummi. I got a headache. Never again will I go to this horrible country. Everybody is greedy and lying

J'ai beaucoup aimé la visite du village maya ainsi que la purification et le dîner. Juste un petit bémol pour mon conjoint qui est claustrophobe et qui a du partir au bout de 5min a peine car c'était dans le noir total et fermé sans même un peu de lumière. We felt that the description of the tour didn't reflect the actual tour but this didn't stop us from enjoying it ..quite the opposite but think you should share more break down of info eg not suitable for people with clostrophobia or or a,nervous disposition and also that if you don't take and wear your swimwear you won't be able to do more than half of the events laid on Personally we found it an amazing and rewarding evening thank you.

Der Fahrer hatte 40min VerspätungDer gesamte Ausflug ist leider nicht wie von TUIbeschrieben.Es ist alles auf einen Fleck man lernt nichts bekommt zwar Kostproben aber das wars . Ist mehr wie ein Museums besuch .Die Sauna und das reinigungsritual sind es auf alle Fälle wert. Die Verpflegung vor Ort für den preis sehr mikrig.Zeit in der Zenote ist zu gering um es zu genießen.Dafür war unser Guide Olga sehr aufmerksam und hat alles super erklärt.Der deutschsprachige guide übersetzt alles falsch

Het was een hele bijzondere ervaring. Absoluut blij dat ik het heb mogen meemaken. Erg vervelend dat een groep steeds fotos maakte en filmden tijdens de ceromonie. Ja je bent toerist, maar je hoeft niet elke seconde de toerist uit te hangen. De reis erheen zat ik in een compleet Italiaanse groep. En op de weg terug werd ik op een andere transfer gezet. Terwijl op de heenweg werd gezegd dat ik terug zou gaan met de groep waarmee ik kwam. Daar werd ik wat onzeker van.

The experience was wonderful but the lack of information from TUI made it quite stressful. Highlighting the need for swim suits, towel and flip flops is needed. Also bug spray- you're in the jungle! It's advertised as 2-4 hours, the experience is 3hours or so but be warned that depending on where your hotel is you may be in a for a long coach ride. We were collected at 16.30 and arrived home at 23.30. The guides were great and it was an experience we will never forget- just needs more info.

This was the second time we had visited this particular village after doing a day time tour. The villagers are friendly and keen to share their way of life. The ritual was great to be part of and lasts about 30 mins. Even if you don’t intend to swim in the cenote, make sure to wear bathing clothes as you sweat a lot!! The meal was delicious, and a lovely shop on site to purchase souvenirs. Our guide Tay was friendly and knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about his job.

Fantastic and unique experience not to miss out on. Just bear in mind if going from Cancun Hotel Zone the drive is 2.5 hours each way, plus the experience itself so for us was 4pm until almost midnight so what the website says as a 2-4hr excursion. Caught us by surprise but still worth it.

De Maya rituelen waren leuk, maar alles eromheen? Pfff heel matig. Archie de reisleider is echt niet geschikt. Aardige kerel, maar spreekt niet fatsoenlijk Engels en geeft nauwelijks uitleg. Ik ben woonbegeleider en me vriendin lerares en zijn van zijn leeftijd, maar hebben echt veel meer passie dan hij in ons vak. We hebben hem al eerder gehad en echt niet fijn. Ook het fooi vragen is echt akelig. Je betaal je al scheel en krijg dan ook nog boze Mexicanen als je geen fooi geef.

I enjoyed everything. The ritual was an experience I will never forget. It was tough staying for the duration of the ritual, but it was such an achievement staying for the whole time. The swim in the cenote was fun and a unique experience. Very cultural experience and would definitely recommend

We absolutely LOVED this experience. I booked without telling my husband until the day - he was skeptical, but he thoroughly enjoyed it! The culture is amazing, villagers were lovely and friendly, gift shop was good, food was PERFECT. The sauna was such an amazing experience (SO HOT!) and got to cool off in the cenote after. Guide was lovely, translated well for us, wish we could’ve had the actual ritual translated though. Overall 10/10, would love to do it again!

Het idee achter de uitstap is echt heel leuk, de ceremonie, het eten, de cenote, maar een beetje meer info op voorhand over wat je juist moet meenemen zou wel tof zijn. Maar vooral VEEL kleinere groepen! We hebben meer dan een half uur in onze zwemkleding moeten staan wachten voor de ceremonie en opgevreten worden door de muggen, niet oke. Dat heeft de avond écht verpest voor ons. Zwemmen in de cenote was ook niet leuk met zoveel mensen. Een kleinere groep is echt nodig hier.

Wie schon in der Beschwerde beschrieben, wurde in der Beschreibung ein Ausflug in kleiner Gruppe versprochen. Im Maya - Dorf abgekommen wurden mehrere Gruppen ( verschiedene Sprachen) zusammen gefügt, sodass daraus eine große Gruppe aus ca. 30 Leuten geworden ist, was als „ klein“ nun gar nicht bezeichnen kann. Dazu kam noch, dass die Menschen zum Teil auf sehr kleinem Fleck zusammen saßen ( in der Schamanen- Saunahülle, die dazu noch verschlossen war). Das war das große Manko dabei. Ansonsten war der Ausflug sehr interessant.

Die Abholung erfolgte direkt am Hotel - allerdings mit etwa 25 Minuten Verspätung. Da man 10 Minuten VOR Abholzeitpunkt bereits in der Lobby warten soll standen wir dort auch mit deutscher Manier viel zu früh und warteten. Da der Bus bereits voll war erklärt sich die Verspätung durch Verkehr und das Einsammeln der anderen Gäste. (vermutlich) Durch einen vorherigen Ausflug kannten wir diesen Ort bereits - was natürlich für uns nicht sonderlich toll war, da wir nichts neues entdecken konnten außer das Maya Ritual. Die Cenote, die Menschen dort und auch die Herstellung von Tortillas waren uns bekannt. Leider ist bei TUI bei keinem Ausflug ersichtlich, WO es genau hin geht um solche Situationen vermeiden zu können. Da wir zu spät am Ausflugsort ankamen hatten wir eine Wartezeit, da unser Schamane bereits eine andere Gruppe in die Geheimnisse einführte, die vor uns da waren.. Die Wartezeit Betrug 1 1,5h, in der wir also in der Dämmerung darauf warten, mit dem Ritual starten zu können. Wir hatten eine Tour in Deutsch gebucht, unser Guide sprach Deutsch, wenn auch nicht ganz so flüssig, aber verständlich. Wir dachten wir würden dieses Ritual mit unserer Gruppe machen, allerdings kam dann eine weitere, englischsprachige Gruppe dazu, sodass wir plötzlich mit mehr als 30 Leuten dort standen und das Ritual nur noch in englisch erklärt wurde. Für uns war dies kein Problem, den deutschsprachigen Ausflug haben wir der Bequemlichkeit gebucht. Bei Leuten, die vielleicht nicht der englischen Sprache mächtig sind würde das sicherlich zu Problemen führen, da diese sicherlich auch an den Informationen interessiert sind. Wir hatten ebenfalls ältere Personen dabei, die auch hier Ihre Probleme hatten, aber leider eher durch andere Gäste aufgeklärt wurden als durch den Guide. Das Ritual fand dann mit dieser großen Gruppe (was definitiv nicht C.-Form wäre - aber wir stellen uns natürlich nicht an), viel zu verspätet und in falscher Sprache an. Danach ging es in die Cenote zum schwimmen und darauf folgte ein Abendessen, zubereitet durch die Menschen, die dort wohnten. Das Essen uns die Stimmung war fantastisch, nehmt euch nur unbedingt Mückenschutz mit, sonst habt ihr von dem Ausflug noch mindestens eine Woche ein Andenken. ;-)

Vi blev hämtade 45 min efter utsatt tid. Fick förklarat att det var en trafikolycka som orsakat försening men vi fick besked när halva vårt gäng blev hämtade på utsatt tid att vi andra skulle vänta 10 min till på nästa buss men det tog 45 min och inget besked under tiden. .väl framme på upplevelsen vi bokat på engelska så visar det sig att vår guide även har en fransk grupp och en spansktalande så allt tog 3 ggr så lång tid då allt skulle gå igenom 3 ggr så blev mycket väntan. Stod upplevelsen kunde ta 2-4 timmar men fr utsatt tid tills vi kom hem tog det 6 tim. Vi hade 1 tim bussfärd i var riktning vilken det saknas info om i beskrivningen av upplevelsen hur lång restiden är. Så vi hade 1 tim i var riktning så hur upplevelsen kan ta 2- 4 tim är osannolikt då vi hade 2 tim restid. Själva upplevelsen på plats mayafolkets hemligheter var bra men guiden upplevdes lite förvirrad och långsam.bokar jag en upplevelse på engelska ska jag inte vara i samma tur som andra som bokat på andra språk. Bussen dåligt skick. Mayafolket levererade men inte Tui. Därav sjunker betyget då upplevelserna man köper är ganska dyra så ge oss det som vi köpt genom att komma i tid och endast ha grupper i det språk man bockat i när man bokat.

Spændende aften med Maya ritualer og kultur. Jeg blev dog noget overrasket da vi skulle være 45 minutter i en mørk svedehytte. Det kunne man godt skrive i beskrivelsen af turen.

Amazing insight into Mayan rituals. The trip involved a sauna style experience in the dark which was amazing but not sure if we knew exactly about that before going. May be one for the cautious claustrophobic or difficulty in handling sauna for prolonged time.
