What to expect
What better way to spend a few hours than savouring the delights of Mahon, Menorca's history-steeped capital? On this half-day tour, you'll enjoy a harbour boat trip, have free time to explore the old town on market day and taste the goods at a historic distillery. Nicola, one of our expert local guides, says, “If you scratch beneath the surface, you'll find the British influence in many older buildings such as sash windows, panelled doors, lunettes and more. But a uniquely Menorquin touch is the ruby-red paint on these houses.”First up is a boat trip in Mahon harbour – the second largest in the world. Glide between fortified islets and admire the opulent villas lining the waterfront on either side. Some date from the 18th century, when Menorca was a British colony. The on-board commentary will fill you in on the historic details, while the lower deck windows give you a great underwater perspective. Back on land, it's on to the old Xoriguer gin distillery. Menorca's favourite tipple has been made here, using the same recipe, since 1736 – yet another symbol of the island's British heritage. Grab a taste at the distillery before some free time in the capital. You'll have around one-and-a-half to two hours to wander the narrow cobbled streets of Mahon under your own steam, admiring its Georgian town houses, baroque churches and palm-lined squares. We visit here on market days, so head to the centrally located Plaza del Carme, where there's a market of vendors hawking everything from cured meats to fresh fruit under the cloisters of a 17th-century convent. Among the stalls, look out for the distinctively square-shaped cheese, Queso Mahón-Menorca, it has a mild, buttery flavour and is a top choice for cheese-lovers looking to take home a memento of Mahon.

Die Bootstour war definitiv das Beste, gefolgt von dem Besuch in der Destillerie. Was ich ein wenig unglücklich fand, war, dass es wirklich alles auf Englisch war, es war super interessant, aber bei nicht so guten Englisch Kenntnissen schwierig zu verstehen. Uhrzeit der freien Verfügung etwas unglücklich, da noch keine Geschäfte geöffnet hatten. Überfordert Sehenswürdigkeiten zu finden. Optional wäre Führung gut gewesen, wer gewollt hätte. Sonst war es sehr schön und interessant.

Nicola was a great tour guide and made the trip very interesting. She was so formative about all of the places we passed or visited. The trip to Mahon was interesting with a lovely visit to the church. I never thought I'd enjoy gin, but the Pomada was so refreshing. Followed by a lovely boat trip learning all about the Port.

Boat trip good. Didn’t see anything from the glass bottom. Need to tell people it’s 2.5 hours free time in Mahon and that it’s hilly. Some people were struggling to get back up to the coach. Good info about where to go and toilets. Perhaps arrived 30’mins too early as nothing was open at 9.15. Nothing was open.

The only bad point, if you’re not in the first few to get on the boat, you sit upstairs, there is no cover, it was 35’c and no breeze. Not a pleasant 15 minutes, until the boat got going. Didn’t get to see the glass bottom, it’s first come first served, being on the top deck, couldn’t get in, the other passengers are supposed to come out after a few minutes, but they didn’t, it’s not supervised. Shame, but not much to see anyway.

Really enjoyed the day. Gin stop was quick so was great if you have children as not ideal if a long tour. Guide could have been a bit more knowledgeable on the coach but was friendly and informative Would have easily had another hour at the end of the- 2 hours wasn’t enough to shop as well as have lunch

Our guide Nicola was very knowledgeable and gave lots of interesting information during the journey. I think it was misleading to advertise the boat tour as 'glass-bottomed' as the children were disappointed that there were only 4 small viewing windows that we could only look through for a short time. I also think you should have your 'children' age reduced as I was a single adult with 3 under 16s but could only pay for one child. Overall it was an enjoyable day out.

Absolutely loved this trip! The tour guide was fantastic, amazingly knowledgable, helpful and polite. The timing of everything was perfect and the boat trip at the end was a lovely way to finish the experience before we travelled back. The market was good and our guide had recommended a cafe which was lovely! Technically a half day trip but was more like a full day trip.

The tour guide was good. Day started too early. In Mao by 9am,but nowhere opened until 10am. Market only just setting up,walked round empty streets for 1hr.In the end sat in the bus depot for 30 mins waiting to get back on coach as nothing else to do. Gin distillery was ok but nothing provided for u18, not even a local drink or Fanta. Paid full price for a 14 and 17 but nothing. Boat was good, but shame about the walk from drop off. Overall, poor value for money and nothing for children.

The trip gave us a chance to see a little of the harbour & surrounding areas & the guide was really informative about the history of Mahón however we arrived early & wasn’t told the shop’s didnt open until 10am & the market was just setting up. I wouldn’t have liked to have been on the boat any longer than we were as it was so hot. The gin distillery was a disappointment although once again the guide was very informative but I’m not keen on gin anyway. I was glad to get back to the resort.

The trip around the harbour was great & Mahon is worth a visit, but the Gin "Distillery" is just a sales opportunity to try & buy different types of Gins from the shop rather than look around the Distillery. Still worth a visit though.

This experience is worth every penny. From pick up to drop off Nicola gave us all the history of the island as we drive from the east to Mahon. We had nearly 2 hours at the market and Mahon shopping centre, then back in the coach down to the harbour. The gin distillery experience is sooo much fun. You basically help yourself to sample all the gins and liquors - all delicious. Then a stroll down to the san Joan boat for an hours boat tour around the harbour. It’s stunning!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable on the island of menorca and gave us constant info on the bus journey to mahon regarding places and points of interest. We had plenty of time to walk around mahon market and the town itself. A brief visit to the gin factory for sampling of the produce and the opportunity to buy and a competitive price. Finally the harbour tour for approximate hour with on-board recorded guide. Enjoyable day

The Guide was useless,virtually no commentary on the way to Mahon, did'nt have to do anything on the boat trip but sit down and enjoy the view. Route marched us back to the coach and across the road directly into the Gin factory but no tour of the factory merely tastsing the gin samples in a small area and then back to the coach and back to the hotel again little to no guide participation. He clearly wanted to be elsewhere. We enjoyed the boat trip.

Didn’t buy anything due to liquid restrictions going through the airport, shame. The boat trip was definitely worth doing , again very informative and it’s always great to see an island from the sea

The guide was excellent and very informative. Mahon was better than expected with some real hidden gems. Coffee overlooking the harbour high up at 2 euros a cup was amazing value. Gin distillery was a good addition and the gin shots tasted great. Then to cap it off with a trip around the harbour was fab. Thoroughly recomend

We arrived in Mahon an hour before anything was open and were left to our own devices for nearly 3 hours. We were then taken to the gin distillery, rushed through that in about 20 minutes after the guide had finished talking to people who did not want to visit the distillery. We were required to walk from the gin tasting to the boat in the midday sun and then back to the coach after the boat trip. Could have been so much better

Fab tour! We started with around 2 hours free time to explore the centre of Mahon including the market and some great little shops followed by a quick drive to the harbour where we had around 30-minutes in the gin distillery to try a variety of gins and liquors for free (definitely buy the slushy pomade for €3 though…very yummy!). We then had a short walk to the boat for the harbour cruise. Whilst we didn’t see a lot under water, the views across the harbour and some of the properties were fab!

Our guide Nicola was excellent and so friendly. She was very helpful and caring. Our experience was on a very hot day and she was very of this. The coach driver dropped us off outside our hotel to save us walking in the heat.

The tour was described to us as a tour with minimal walking - just from the bus to the boat. However this turned out to be a very long walk as one of my party has a problem walking . If she had known the length of the walk required she would have brought her walking aid. The Tui rep at the hotel must have been aware of her disability so I assume her knowledge of the tour was insufficient.

2 x cruise ships in the harbour spoilt it. we were not able to see Mahon’s 3 churches from the boat or take a decent panoramic photo of what we came to see. Then the hoards of cruise ship passengers spoilt the experience back on land. We would not have gone had we known the horrible cruise ships would be there. Think Tui should make clients aware in advance and reduce the cost if cruise ships are in the harbour. They were horrible to see.

We really enjoyed this experience and would highly recommend it. The boat trip was a fabulous cruise and the information was very informative. The guide on the bus and gin tour Nicola couldn’t be better she was so nice and had so much information and could answer all questions. The gin tour was great fun. Nicola helped giving us information on the shopping experience and market so that helped a lot. We would recommend this trip very highly.

Bus arrived promptly at 8am at pick up point . Lovely air conditioned coach , fab driver , can’t remember his name . The guide was Nicola Woodside , she was amazing . She spoke to us all in way to Mahon , very clear and informative and such a friendly caring lady who knew the job inside out . Enjoyed boat trip , gin tasting and 2 hours in Mahon . Very enjoyable and good value for money .

I think the boat was falsely advertised, saying it’s a glass bottom boat, which gives the impression you could walk over the glass and fish be down by your feet. The problem with it being downstairs it was compact and had the strong smell of petrol/oil which subtracted from the experience

Nicola was amazingly knowledgeable, the local details she add whilst on the bus were fascinating. We also travelled with my 80 year old mother and she was so helpful in ensuring we knew how to get the best out of our trip. A wonderful day!

We enjoyed the Mahon trip overall. My husband has mobility issues but the coach dropped us near the market area where he could sit and enjoy the cafes. I chose to wander round independently. The coach took us down to the harbour. The gin tasting was a bit of a scrum with a lot of people in a small space. For my husband it was quite a walk to the boat, though flat and level going, on a hot afternoon. We both enjoyed the boat trip.

The best organised trip to go on, lovely boat tour for an hour then onto the gin distilery then 2 hrs around Mahon market&Town to relax and enjoy before catching the coach back to our hotel a trip our whole party enjoyed, thanks to a fab tour guide.

Loved the boat trip and the free time at the market. Not really interested in the gin distillery but was ok. We had a lovely time and our guide was a lovely man.

The guide on the coach went over and above by getting me a chair as you had to stand in the gin distillery. He also saw I struggled to walk and kept checking on me.

The boat trip was ok but we only saw 2 fish. The market was the same as any other market so we did a walk around the town but it would have been nice to have had a guided tour of Mahon instead. The gin distillery was in fact a gin tasting. Drinking neat gin in the middle of the day was not for us I'm afraid.
