What to expect
Each one of the Dodecanese Islands offers a distinctly different experience – and Symi is one of the most culturally rich of them all. You'll discover its laidback charm and visit sites such as Panormitis Monastery and a sponge maker. Fotini, one of our local guides, says, ‘Symi is one of the smallest and most picturesque Greek islands. The sight of the colourful houses as soon as you enter the harbour never fails to impress.'The fun starts with a glide across the Aegean to Symi. The first stop is in the southwest of the island, at the vast, Venetian-style Panormitis Monastery. It is famed for its Byzantine frescoes and icon of St Michael, but most of all for its location right on the water's edge in a remote and sheltered bay. You'll also have free time to explore the site.Next, you'll sail for Symi town itself. The arrival into the harbour is a joy to behold – tiers of pastel-coloured houses cascade down the surrounding hillsides. There's a guided tour of Symi town, too. And during the sponge maker visit, you'll learn about the island's sponge-diving heritage and its importance to the eco system surrounding the Symi. Your visit also helps support this traditional industry, vital to the local community. You'll get a small gift to take home, too. It's Fotini's favourite part of the experience. She says, ‘The old tradition of sponge diving has strongly affected the history and the customs of the Dodecanese Islands.' What is the itinerary for this experience? The itinerary for this experience is...- 7:30am to 8:30am – pick-up from your hotel- 8:55am – departure from Mandraki Harbor- 10:25am to 11:30am – arrive in Panormitis for a monastery visit and free time- 11:30am – leave Panormitis- 12:00pm – photo stop in St. George Bay- 12:25pm to 4:00pm – arrive in Symi for a guided tour, visit to a sponge workshop, lunch (not included) and free time- 4:00pm – leave Symi- 5:35pm to 5:45pm – arrive back at Mandraki Harbor Please note, the times and schedule may vary on the day and depending on boat operations, sometimes you may visit Panormitis before Symi.

Wycieczka powinna nazywać się rejs po morzu egejskim. Ogólnie 5 godzin na statku przepełnionym , do tego doliczyć dojazd autobusem i oczekiwania. Sama atrakcja warta zobaczenia ale więcej info można poczytać na Internecie. Przewodnik najwięcej skupiał się na danych statystykach z nurkowania i zachęcał do korzystania z lunchu w konkretnej restauracji. Powrót był że żenujący, oczekiwanie na konkretny autokar , a po przyjeździe kierowca nie wiedział do jakich hoteli ma rozwozić turystów.

St. George bay fotomoment: niets van gezien, Klooster: viel tegen wat ons 4en betreft, Headset: veel mensen zag ik het apparaat aan hun oor vasthouden omdat het niet bleef zitten, zelf had ik er ook last van en heb hem dus bijna niet gebruikt.

Båten var slitt og veldig mange passasjerer. Vanskelig å få plass på dekk ute. Burde vært lunsj inkludert. Øre telefon var ikke bra med mye bakgrunnsstøy. Symi var nydelig men besøk på kloster var katastrofe. Vi ble stående i klosteret bak en annen gruppe og kom oss ikke ut før de var ferdig med sin guide og kysse bilde av relieffet. Bra med tid på Symi. Skulle ønske det var et bade stopp.

The monastery visit although in a beautiful setting was hardly worth the extra journey as there is very little to see inside and it was very crowded Maybe offer a visit to Symi only and then it would be a much shorter trip

Enttäuschend und das Geld nicht wert Ich habe noch nie eine so schlechte Tour gebucht. Für 69 € pro Person ist dieser Ausflug eine absolute Frechheit. Auch meine vier Mitreisenden teilten diese Meinung, und an den Gesichtern vieler anderer Gäste konnte man ebenfalls erkennen, wie enttäuscht sie waren. Gebucht hatten wir einen Tagesausflug auf die Insel Symi inklusive Abholung in Hotelnähe und Bootsfahrt. Die noch freien Zeichen reichen für meine Nachricht nicht aus!!!

Abholung anderes Hotel , 1/2 Kilometer entfernt ( so nicht am PC bei Buchungen ersichtlich ),, dann 20 min Fahrt durch den Ort, nur um am eigenen Hotel direkt vorbeizufahren .... aber abgeholt konnte man da wie bei der Buchungsauswahl nicht werden ????? 7 !!!!! Stunden des Ausflugs sind nur Transfer !!!!!!

Balade en bateau agréable mais beaucoup trop long avec une embarcation équipée seulement de la moitié des voiles d'ombrage. Pas assez de temps libre. Guide très professionnelle, qui connait parfaitement sont sujet notamment sur l'histoire de l'île. Dommage que les transferts soient si longs.

Gruppe wurde nie abgezählt bzw nach den Namen gefragt, ausser der Buschaffeur bei der Abholung. Sender zur Reiseleitung hat nicht funktioniert und konnte nicht ausgetauscht weil kein Ersatzgerät vorhanden. Wieso buche ich dann eine Führung?! Sehr gut war der Stopp beim Schwammhändler... im Schatten, die Gruppe gemeinsam. Sehr lange Bootsfahrt, ohne zu wissen, wo die Schwimmwesten sind.

Leuke uitstap. Mocht er iets meer vrije tijd zijn in Symi dan konden we wat meer gezien hebben. Het Panormitis klooster was mooi maar klein. Gids was toffe dame. Bedankt Katharina!

Beaucoup de transport, car, bateau pour pas Beaucoup de temps sur place juste explication de l'île, remonté du port et visite d'une boutique éponge et plus rien il était déjà 12h45 l'heure de déjeuner et retour sur le bateau a 14h00, le restaurant conseillé très bon

le guide est d avantage un commercial de la boutique d éponge qu un réel apport culturel. le repas est compris selon notre correspondant TUI puis ne l est plus selon notre guide . le temps imparti aux visites est minuscule tant le temps dévolu aux boutiques est immense .

Die Kollegin im Hotel versicherte uns das auch die Buchten angefahren werden. Auf dieses Wort haben wir uns verlassen und dann die Tour gebucht. Das war nicht der Fall und wir hätten lieber eine andere Tour buchen wollen.

Leider zu wenig freie Zeit auf Symi, auch im Kloster war wenig Zeit. Eine Info zu den Fahrzeiten des Schiffes und der etwaigen Ankunftszeit in Rhodos wäre hilfreich. Symi ist eine sehr schöne kleine Insel und hätte etwas mehr Zeit verdient.

Système audio défaillant, nous n’endions rien dès que nous n'étions plus juste à côté de la guide... Et celle-ci parlait en marchant donc impossible d'être tous à proximité pour entendre... Temps libre dans Symi beaucoup trop court (à peine 1h30 et sur l’heure du déjeuner) ! Nous aurions aimé balader dans les petites ruelles typiques mais par manque de temps nous n’avons pu voir que les abords du port... Le temple ne vaut pas le coup, 1h de bateau supplémentaire pour à peine 10 min à l'intérieur

-Man ist insgesamt 6 Stunden mit Transfer beschäftigt. -Man ist viel zu oft der prallen Sonne ausgesetzt. -Symi ist eine ziemliche Touristenfalle. -Die Fremdenführerin spricht kein gutes Deutsch und hat nur Werbung gemacht für irgendwelche semi guten Restaurants oder den Kauf von Schwämmen. Ansonsten hat sie sich nicht gut gekümmert. -Das Kloster ist ziemlich heruntergekommen. Fazit: Höllentrip

Het was de moeite waard, heel mooi eiland. Alleen het uitstapje naar het klooster was eigenlijk net te veel. Dat was nog eens een uur varen. Mischien symi ook aanbieden zonder klooster. Het klooster was mooi maar geen echte extra toegevoegde waarde van de reis. De reisleidster was echt top!!!

Overall the trip was very enjoyable. The guide was excellent and gave us lots of local information. The visit to Symi is based on the town round the harbour with narrow winding streets and it's famous sponges The Panormitis Monastery is unbelievable. The interior is covered with wall paintings and there is a large silver icon of St. Michael. Two comments. We didn't think the visit to Symi was long enough. The boat trip took longer than expected and the order of the visits made this worse.

Die Reisebegleitung von TUI (Katharina) war absolut TOP! Sie sprach sehr gut Deutsch, ist auf alles eingegangen wenn man Fragen hatte. Sie hat ein sehr umfangreiches und gutes Wissen über Geschichte und die Insel, konnte viel Wissenswertes vermitteln und warum darüberhinaus sehr freundlich. Eine echte Bereicherung und hat den Ausflug zu einem echten Erlebnis gemacht. Nicht gut die lange Zeit auf der Fähre (sehr laut und man musste teilweise die Abgase vom Schiffsdiesel ertragen).

Unsere Reise nach Rhodos war einfach traumhaft und rundum perfekt. Das Hotel war wunderschön, das Personal unglaublich freundlich und aufmerksam, und alle angebotenen Leistungen und Aktivitäten waren hervorragend organisiert. Mit Maria hatten wir eine sehr gute Führerin, die immer auch um die gesamte Gruppe sich gekümmert und für deren Sicherheit gesorgt hat. Bardzo dobry statek, obszerny, bezpieczny, wygodny, pomieszczenia zasłonięte od wiatru. Czas na podziwianie okolicy, przyrody, krajobrazu. Zwiedzanie miejscowości i wyczerpujące informacje przewodnika. Zwiedzanie miasteczka, sklepików, kupowanie pamiątek. Ładnie spędzony czas, będzie co opowiadać i wspominać.

Overall the trip was well organised including the boat. There was not sufficient time at the monastery and too many people to be able to look at the inside of the building properly. I think its important to inform people that there are no resident monks at the monastry. The Tour guide was very good.

Der Ausflug in seiner Gänze war ein voller Erfolg. Wir haben sehr viel gesehen und erfahren. Maria, unsere Reiseleiterin wusste über alle Dinge viel zu berichten. Wo es Abzüge gibt, ist der Besuch im Kloster. Nicht was zu sehen war, nicht was berichtet wurde sondern die Sachen die man nicht oder nur sehr schwer entdecken konnte. Der Grund dafür sind die Massen an Menschen, die das durchgedrückt werden. Durchgedrückt!!!!!

Guide Maria war mega! Sie hat es anschaulich & gut verständlich erklärt, war hilfsbereit, hat Spaß gemacht ihr zu zu hören. Es war schön, dass Führung max. 45 Min. gedauert hat & man dann Zeit zur Freien Verfügung hatte. So war es kurzweilig. Nicht so toll war, dass alle durch die Kirche durchgeschleust wurden am Kloster. War für die, die wirklich gläubig sind etwas unfair. Und das Verhältnis Bootsfahrt zu Aufenthalt war zu lang: 5 Stunden Bootszeit für ins. 4 Stunden Aufenthalt - anstrengend

Eine sehr gute und vom Inhalt betrachtet hervorragend Tour. Wir erhielten einen sehr guten Vortag über die Geschichte und vor allem die klassizistische Kultur der Insel, der weitere Besuch des Klosters Panormites ist sehenswert und weiter zu empfehlen, ein Einblick in die Gestaltung der orthodoxen Bauweise und damit verbunden der orthodoxen Religion war für uns neu. Besten Dank unserem Führer Nikolaus für seine professionelle Informationen, man spürte sein Wissen und Freude über alle Themen.
