Get ready for a 4x4 adventure that'll take you well and truly off the beaten track. Explore rural corners of Crete and immerse yourself in nature as you rumble through the mountains on dirt tracks. Experience the heart of Crete – its rich mythology, diverse flora and fauna, and fascinating local life. Katerina, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Crete's crumpled mountain peaks echo with stories from Greek mythology - Zeus, the Greek god responsible for thunder and lightning, was born in a cave in Crete's mountains, and it was here on Crete that Theseus slayed the minotaur.'We start with a drive along scenic paths and olive groves, passing ancient relics as we climb through Crete's hills. We'll then call in at a small village where you can sample raki and olive oil with the locals. Cretan olive oil is prized for its purity and flavour, as well as its high polyphenol content and low acidity, which make it very healthy.From here, the real off-road adventure begins as we rumble into the mountains and follow an ancient trail used by shepherds to reach flocks high in the summer pastures. In simple shepherd's huts, fresh goat milk is used to make a tasty homemade cheese. Next, we'll visit a family-run taverna for a typical local lunch – a vegetarian option is also available – with unlimited wine. You'll discover another side of Crete with professional and informative drivers who will tell you all about their island - from local life and history to wildlife and cuisine. Unser Guide hatte ein super Wissen, sowohl über ganz Kreta und speziell die Lassithi-Hochebene. Wir haben ebenfalls eine Geschichtsstunde über Kreta im 2. Weltkrieg erhalten, was sehr interessant war. Der Aufstieg zue Zeus-Höhle ist anstrengend, aber die Höhlen entschädigen einen dafür. Wichtig: nach dem anstrengenden Aufstieg geht es sehr viele Treppenstufen erst runter und dann wieder hoch. Eine gewisse Kondition wird benötigt!

This is the tour we booked, however, when we were picked up ,told our tour cancelled and we had to go on one with the swimming, which we stated we did not want this tour. We had no choice, we didn't even get a email explaining it was cancelled and a choice to change days. This is why a negative response due to not going on it. I wasn't told of any price difference assuming it was same.

Gary was the perfect guide, so down to earth, friendly and funny. Really knowledgeable about Crete and gave us so much information about the history, plants including the olive trees, wildlife, mythology and Cretan people. Going in the Jeep was really fun in the mountains, and we loved sampling the raki, olive oil, honey and goat cheese. It was fun getting to know the other people on the tour during the lunch in the taverna - the unlimited wine helped! Would wholeheartedly recommend.

We had a fantastic driver/guide called Tony. His driving was exceptional and he had a wealth of knowledge about the areas we visited. Throughout, the tour was interesting and held your attention. Tony also had a sense of humour which was a nice touch and made you feel relaxed. We've been on tours in the past that have been boring, but not this one. An excellent day out with some lovely food and a brilliant driver/guide.

Absolutely fantastic! Gary the GOAT killer is an absolute legend. He made our experience 100 times better funny, knowledgeable, educational, and incredibly entertaining throughout the trip. We visited in May but completely forgot to leave a review until now. The trip was worth every penny, especially with a guide like Gary leading the way. Highly recommend the entire experience. You might even end up getting married there!

Ganz toller Ausflug. Kann ich jedem Urlauber empfehlen. Alle Mitarbeiter sind super. Man sieht so viel, und Fragen werden beantwortet. Ausflug ist lehrreich und macht richtig Spaß. Unser Guide war sehr gut. Das Essen in der Taverne war super lecker. Alles in allem war das ein Spitzen Ausflug.

From the beginning the tales and history were amazing with stories to help us on the day, we loved the real people of Crete meeting them at their places of work in the mountains they were very friendly and generous. The sights were spectacular seeing wildlife and getting told about herbs and other species living locally. The lunch was amazing and again so much of real Crete with amazing flavours and wine flowing.

Nous avons tout aimé lors de cette journée. Un guide ( Victor) super, qui a su nous montrer des paysages de la Crète superbes. Il nous a expliqué les coutumes du pays, la nourriture, les élevages…….une vision que nous n’avions pas de notre hôtel. Un très bon repas le midi avec des spécialités du pays. Expérience à refaire !

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié d’avoir un chauffeur crétois , Manoli, parlant bien le français et pouvant nous parler de son pays. Il était très intéressant et nous a donnés plein de détails sur son île et répondait à toutes nos questions. Ça a été une belle journée de découvertes des montagnes de Crète et de leurs villages isolés et de leurs habitants .

Unser Guide war wirklich sehr gut. Einziges Manko war, das bei uns im Auto ein paar war, was fest auf ihren Plätzen saß und unter keinen Umständen wechseln wollte, weil es ihnen hinten zu eng war. Aus meiner Sicht hätte dieses Paar dann lieber eine Tour mit einem Vito machen sollen.

Er was geen airco on de Metcedes Vito en de begeleider vond het niet nodig eens te stoppen bij de graan-molens bij het uitrijden van de vlakte. Voor de rest was het een mooie excursie die je laat meegenieten van een ander landschap in Kreta.

Our driver/guide Daryl, was fantastic. He was loads of fun, had amazing knowledge and made the trip extra enjoyable. The route was outstanding, great stop points and the bouncy Land Rover made it a real adventure!. Fantastic lunch at the roadside taverna too

Mountain tour with Geoff whose knowledge of the area and Ancient Greece I found fascinating. It was a brilliant tour interesting and informative,Geoff was a great driver I felt totally safe off road with him. The food was great and plentiful. Highly recommend this tour absolute bonus if you get Geoff as your driver, what a lovely down to earth guy

Auch wenn die Tour nicht unbedingt günstig ist, ist sie doch jeden Cent wert! Die Geländewagentour mit "Dem Original" war mit Abstand das absolute Highlight unseres Kreta-Urlaubs und wir können die Safaritour daher uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Man erkundet Wege, die man mit einem "normalen" Leihwagen nie fahren würde bzw. dürfte.

Świetna wyprawa! Całą podróż umilał nam kierowca Costa-świetny gość. Pani Małgorzata przewodniczka wspaniale opowiadała historię Krety. Der Ausglug war wirklich toll! Unser Guide Michaelis war super freundlich, lustig und könnte uns viel über Kreta, Flora und Fauna, Historie und Mythologie erzählen. Er ist sicher gefahren, auch wenn es wirklich holprig war. Ein echtes Abenteuer :)

La guide Adeline était très agréable et proche de nos préoccupations. Bienveillante, elle cherchait toujours à nous faire plaisir, à ous proposer de nous prendre en photo. Elle nous a aussi donné de précieux informations sur la Crète que nous ne connaissions pas. Bref, ce fut une journée très riche en paysages et en connaissance sur l’histoire du pays. Je recommande
