Celebrate like a local on Mexico's biggest and most vibrant holiday with this Day of the Dead outing. You'll dive into ancient traditions, and get a memorable glimpse into one of Mexico's most significant cultural events. Lucas, one of our local expert guides, says, ‘Dià de los Muertos is like a family reunion – but with an otherworldly twist. It's a joyful celebration where families honour loved ones through storytelling, music, dancing and of course, delicious food.' Kick off your journey by plunging into the crystal-clear waters of Mexico's mystical cenote – an underground river that's the perfect refreshing start to your adventure. After your swim, you'll sample traditional festival foods like 'pan de muerto', a sweet bread baked in the shape of skulls or bones, as well as savoury tamales, both believed to comfort the souls of the departed. Throughout the day, you'll also learn about cool traditions like ‘offrendas' – offerings to loved ones – and the significance of bright orange marigold flowers. Next, roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with Mexican culinary magic by making your own guacamole. Sip on local wines while a chef spills the secrets behind regional flavours and cooking techniques. Lucas adds, ‘We whip up all the favourite foods and drinks of our loved ones to show we still care. Plus, we even set out their favourite snacks on the altars – you know, just in case they get hungry!' Die Tour war der absolute Wahnsinn! Hat uns (und unseren Teenager) nachhaltig beeindruckt. Unser Guide Alex hat den Abend sehr persönlich und besonders gestaltet. Leider werden in der Beschreibung vorab gar nicht alle Programmpunkte erwähnt, was die Tour etwas unscheinbar erscheinen lässt. Sie ist aber wunderbar und das Geld wert! Absolute Empfehlung!!

Enjoyed learning the history in an interactive manner. Pick up was late and found customer service via the app unhelpful. When the bus arrived, no apology for tardiness or explanation. Need to warn guests that the bus goes off road and the journey is extremely rough and it is not a suitable excursion for someone with mobility issues. During our visit, an abled bodied person fell hard. It's very dark, lit only by candles and a torch held by the guide at the front

Really enjoyed the evening. Unfortunately the pick up was 30mins late and no contacted us and the tui app was not helpful. Guide was very informative and the entertainment was great. Food wasn't to my taste but still enjoyed it. You may want to warn people how rough the road is leading to the site...i think I lost my organs on the way!!

very expensive compared to the content of other excursions we have done. The cenote was beautiful and the fire dance was nice, but it felt amateur compared to others. Some people were on the bus for over 2 hours before us, so their experience was over 10 hours and they were so tired. I understand tipping is part of the culture here, but we were asked to tip someone after each element of the evening and the whole group felt it was too much. Wish we had stayed for our hotel Mexican party instead.

We bought this as a family of 7 and even though it was 18+ we were informed it was suitable for children, this was confirmed from the Office with age of children given . This was not suitable for children and should never have been sold to us as this ruined it for all the party.

The road to the location that the tour takes place is incredibly bumpy, hence the travel sickness warning! However, our driver handled this very well. Once at the site the tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. Our guide Enrike was new to giving tours but was excellent going above and beyond even jumping into the cenote to retrieve an item someone dropped. The fire show was an excellent touch that we were not expecting but the highlight was the cenote itself!

Sehr gute vegetarische Alternativen, super ambiente für das Abendessen. Die Tourguides war sehr nett, dass englisch hat man super verstanden und sie waren auf die sicherheit aller Teilnehmer*innen bedacht. Man hatte gemerkt, dass sie Freunde an ihrer Arbeit hatten. Eine ausführlichere Beschreibung des Ausfluges in der App, wäre gut. So war vieles doch eine Überraschung, aber im positiven Sinne meinerseits.

Cannot believe I've been asked to review what should have been a highlight of my holiday when the Day of the Dead trip was CANCELLED TWICE! To have been rescheduled should have meant at least one of these events would happen - would strongly encourage people to think twice before booking outside of the Festival of the Dead period since it appears these excursions are not popular from the Playa del Carmen hotels....

Deze trip was overweldigend en een bijzondere ervaring. De gids wist ons veel informatie te geven. Op het einde was er nog een verrassing dat we in de grot gingen eten. Dat was super mooi en net of je in de hemel was. Ook had ik zelf een emotioneel moment toen ik mocht vertellen over mijn overleden moeder. Dat was een bijzondere belevenis en de gids was er op dat moment voor mij.

Alex and his wife Maria were very passionate about there heritage and gave out some very good knowledge of the history of the Mayan people the swim in the cenote was excellent and we received a traditional Mayan meal in all a very good experience

Needs something more about present day such as music and flowers. The origins is interesting but a modern touch could be involved to update it to present day. They mentioned the film Coco but none of the music. Also you mention the sweet bread skull, but this is regional. The sweet bread can be bones on a bun or coloured red ring for blood.

Overall, the evening was very good. The staff are very informative and the shows were fantastic. Dinner was delicious unfortunately they had problems with the electricity so we dined in the dark. This just added to the experience. Would highly recommend.

Melissa was amazing! Provided a great experience, so knowledgable and had great humor with all the people involved. The fire show was AMAZING. And the cenote was even more beautiful than u can imagine, with a fully guided experience by Melissa. The meal Is a viewpoint in the cenote that is even more than described to you before you go, sitting above the water and photo opportunities from beautiful view points. A trip I would 100% recommend in a heart beat!!!

Melissa the host was fabulous. The tour itself was great but the food not so much, the entertainment, was OK but the mosquitoes were horrendous. Got eaten alive. Tui rep should have explained this more. I didn't know it was as bad as it was. The swim in cave was amazing.

De tour is leuk de gids was top! Alleen had iemand het licht in de cenotte uitgedaan en zat de hele groep vast in t donker. De gids is na geruime tijd alleen in t donker terug gezwommen “met alle gevolgen van dien” om hulp te halen… verder was er ook heel weinig verlichting op de looppaden en wandelde er op een haar na een tarantula op iemands rug … al met al is t best een spannende ervaring geweest waarbij ik in de cenotte toch lichtelijk in paniek was… het is dankzij de kundige gids goed afgel

Very expensive trip The day of the dead experience was rubbish like a poor winter wonderland for the money not worth going just explained about day of the dead and showed a few memorials Positives - feels like you are really in the jungle, nice swim in an underground cenote and best bit of the trip was meal after in a underground cenote with bats flying about and excellent waiting staff

Ziemlich teuer aber schön. Ein Pluspunkt war für uns, dass auch vegetarisches Essen ohne Probleme angeboten wird. Das vegetarische Essen ist dann auch ein eigenständiges Essen und nicht einfach nur das Standard-Essen ohne Fleisch. Das Schwimmen in der Cenote war sehr schön, weil wir dort fast alleine waren. Die Erläuterungen zum Day of the Dead waren sehr anschaulich.

The whole experience was magical. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable bringing it all to life. Love visiting the shame, the fire show was outstanding. Of course the highlight was the swim in the Cenote and the setting in another for dinner. Don't change the number of guests. The only down side for us was the food. Guac was good but to male dry not many ate them at our table and the bbq pork was too sweet but just my preference.

Melissa, the guide was knowledgeable and friendly, she made it seem as though nothing was too much trouble. The drive to the event was VERY bumpy but the driver navigated it well. The event itself was absolutely sublime and so much more than was expected. Dinner in the cenote was brilliant and the fire show was fabulous. We went as a family of 7 and all were blown away by the absolute brilliance of the whole experience.

I would like to provide a special mention to Alex, our tour guide for the Day of the Dead excursion. From the minute we were collected from the hotel, Alex was extremely attentive, knowledgeable and utterly charming with all guests. He and the staff at the cenote gave first class service. The decorations, the features, the music, the atmosphere, the meal in the cenote, everything was breath taking. This trip is reason enough alone to go to Mexico. Alex clearly has a passion for what he does.

Old minibus....no one at the back could hear anything, so c 1 hour of information shared by guide wasted. (did try and speak up, but no better). Very rickety and very uncomfortable for the long journey. "Cemetery " very gimmicky, only 4/5 "coffins". Highlights: The fire show was good, as was the meal in the underground cenote. However at £125 pp, very overpriced and not authentic in any way. Very disappointed ??

Our guide Melissa was fantastic as was the experience. The fire dances were amazing and it was the best Cenote to date. The water was crystal clear and it felt magical having dinner in the cenote. Het was niet helemaal wat ik verwachte .De prijs is aan de hoge kant . De plaats is oké. De gids vond ik persoonlijk minder . We hebben een hele tijd op een bankje zitten wachten op de vuur show . Die zeker oké was . Het eten was betoverend op zo een plek kunnen eten is een unieke belevenis . De uitleg mag nog wat uitgebreider worden . Met wat kleine aanpassingen is het zeker oké. Ik zal het zeker aanbevelen alleen al voor de unieke eetgelegenheid. En het lekkere eten

Really enjoyed the whole experience. The ride into the jungle is a bit bumpy but ok . The guide was amazing with his history . Very interesting. Food was good The blessing was magical to me . Going into the Cenote . And the fire dancers at the end with some nice wine . I would do it again .

Nearly two hours of pick ups and travel even though told only 40 minutes, poorly maintained vehicle broke down on way back home. Actual time on experience was very good even though should of been offered water on arrival, experience centred around cenote and more day of the dead experiences would of been better as with all Tui experiences slightly overpriced but have a captive audience ??

Me and my wife enjoyed every moment of this experience. From pick up to drop off, we felt well looked after. The tour guide and driver were absolutely amazing people and very knowledgeable about the Day of the Dead celebrations. It was really an eye opening experience learning and experiencing the cultural event and it's significance in Mexico. Would happily do this experience again in the near future.

The grounds hotel brilliant, the rooms were from the 80s t.v. big back the bath filthy needed replacing all out dated. The food was the same daily,it actually was a horrible 2 weeks stay. This place no more than 3 to 4 star definitely not a 5 .tui don't value customer's expectations at all there's no complaints procedure had the money bad luck.

The experience was enjoyable apart from the meal which wasn't to my taste. At over $350US it was very expensive for a small walk through a woods with a few set up shrines and a fake grave yard. The swim was really enjoyable due to the water being very cool the fire show was excellent and very enjoyable. The meal was not very enjoyable and to only have a small glass of blue coloured wine a bottle of water and few glasses of Habiscus water I felt this was very over priced

Needed more options on arrival like merchandise to buy and maybe a welcome drink as there was a lot of waiting about at the start. The staff were great in all areas with fire show excellent. Needs some subtle ambient music during the meal as it was very quiet and lacked atmosphere. Also very humid and should have had the fan on during dinner. Very dark leaving for the bus s as nd an old couple got lost. Good trip requiring some finessing.

Very little to do with day of the dead sadly. Briefly talked about and shown mock up shrines. Shaman blessing was good. Our guide was very informative and helpful. My vegetarian wife was given meat when host clearly told vegetarian and acknowledged. Very drunk couple spoiled setting, they were not challenged and given more alcohol when they asked for it, throwing their dessert into cenote to feed fish. Cenote eating area was beautiful. Basically a swim and dinner in cenote.

It was not what I expected. I thought there would be a show with dancers playing Mexican music the fire show was very good but it only lasted about 12 minutes. The setting for the meal was first class but my granddaughter only ate part of the first meal and for £139 I honestly don’t think it was worth that perhaps £60 would be nearer the mark

First part felt a bit ‘theme park/touristy’ but cenotes was good and great location for the meal. Was expecting a show (more than the fire show which we had seen for ‘free’ at the hotel anyway). Guide Lewis was excellent. Had we known exactly what it entailed beforehand we would have probably done something different
